Category 2 may lead to disappointment. After a non-sexual massage in Patong, just as the place was closing around 1am, I negotiated to take my masseur off. Returning Thais do not need a negative test before flying, or be fully vaccinated. While some airlines may have their own policy, I'm sure Thai Airways in particular will not implement something different than the government requires for Thai people. There was a thread on this on Richard Barrow's twitter feed on 26 October. So depending on your airline, you may well sit next to an untested and unvaccinated person!

I'm always on the look out for good Thai restaurants in Pattaya. Somsakdi on Soi 1 is a very traditional Thai restaurant with a huge menu and generally very good food. For upmarket, I like the Avani hotel's Thai restaurant Sala Rim Nam - great setting in teak pavillions on lotus ponds. The set menus are good value and include dessert and coffee - if there are two of you, you can each have a different set menu and share everything Thai-style. The many German owned restaurants at the start of the Naklua Road just past the Dolphin roundabout, and in Naklua Soi 33, do the classic Thai dishes quite well, I particularly like Leckerle. If you're in need of western food the German set meals at these restaurants are great value, usually soup or salad, main, and desert or coffee for under 200B. In Jomtien, Surf Kitchen is a reliable and popular place for Thai food.

Yes - on one occasion in February I was sat with a boy in A-Bomb, and one by one every other boy (there were about eight) were called down to sit with customers leaving none on stage. When new customers arrived there were no boys to look at and they left immediately. Many of the A-Bomb boys don't arrive until about 9.45pm (they don't get a salary so just turn up when they please), so I would say 9pm is too early. If and when the bar reopens it will be interesting to see if the regime changes - I would expect the owner to want to maximise his new investment!

Thanks. I've visited Jomtien in the past, but I find it easier to find what I like in the gogo bars. At Jomtien I wander up and down the soi trying to find a bar with someone potentially offable, but once inside I often find the boys are busy serving drinks or more interested in talking to their friends.

I hesitate to call this a trip report as it's much less detailed than many, but here are my observations from a trip to Pattaya earlier in May. Typically I only frequent gogo bars - massage is not generally my thing (I'll make an exception for a stunner), and host bars are usually a last resort. I spent a week in Hua Hin, one of my favourite places to unwind, before hitting Pattaya for 10 days. The transfer was hellish, for some reason known only to herself the driver decided a route via central Bangkok was best. The motorways were gridlocked on a Friday afternoon, so instead of the usual 5 hours the journey took 7.5 hours. It will be the ferry next time for sure. In Pattaya, Boyztown was subdued with very few customers in the outside bars. Panoroma in particular was very quiet, Castro and Serene seemed to be busier. A-Bomb, one of my regular bars, was closed for a long overdue refurbishment. I was disappointed as I'd been hoping to find a lad from my last visit. I found the A-Bomb barman working as a waiter in Dreamboys, along with several of the A-bomb lads. The waiter explained a couple of other A-bomb boys were working at Cupidol, including the lad I was looking for. He headed over to Cupidol, and brought my lad over to Dreamsboys for me. Now there's good service! I caught the Dreamboys first show, which is pretty much a copy of X-Boys and BBB minus the Bboys dancers. They started with a candle show, which I thought was extinct in Thailand. The candle boy was not really my type, pleasant looking but not a stunner, but as I watched he grew on me - the waiter helpfully explained he was "number 1 big cock" in the bar. However, it was his big chunky ass that capitvated me, especially when I saw him naked later during the big cock show. The waiter was talking about a 700 Baht off fee for the show boys, plus tips of "2000 Baht up", so I didn't off him. Later in the trip I saw the Dreamboys 2nd show, they seemed to have many more boys in the big cock show who I hadn't seen previously in the bar. It was fun. I spotted an exceptionally handsome older guy who I'd offed years ago - frustratingly I couldn't remember from where. It must have been BBB, or Dreamsboys in Bangkok, I think. I had a quick grope for 100 Baht. It was pity this was my last night and I already had a boy from Dreamboys sat with me. X-Boys had a good selection of boys. I always find the staff here a bit odd, other than asking if you want to off anyone they don't seem to want to engage or help you choose a boy as they do in other bars. Maybe their English is not up to a conversation. I did off a good looking lad, I wasn't sure he was gay when I saw him on stage but he soon convinced me he was. He'd already had a few drinks, and was in fact slightly drunk. This didn't really affect his performance. in Cupidol, other than my former A-Bomb guy who I offed a couple of times, I didn't find any boys my type - but then I rarely do. I ventured into BBB several times. I'm not a fan of the way the boys are generally fully dressed. The muscular ones who do take their tops off invariably have an unimaginative tattoo in the style of Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, across one pec and a half-sleeve down the arm. Twice I offed one of my regulars, a cute gay lad from Chiang Mai with an unexpectedly large cock. One evening when he wasn't there, one of the muscular guys caught my attention. He's cute but distinctive looking with a great body. He was from Cambodia, which surprised me given his build. When he worked out what I liked (which is not difficult, I'm easily pleased), he was quite the dirty devil in bed. I don't normally discuss tips in the bar, and rarely have a problem like this - it's happened 3 times in 20 years. With the 1200 Baht charge to the bar (2 drinks at 350 plus 500 off fee), it made for quite an expensive evening. He won't be joining my list of regulars. Toy Boys is the best run bar in Boyztown. My regular waiter knows what I like and works hard to find a suitable boy for me. I offed two boys from here - one was a sightly older guy with a great body I'd offed previously. He's straight but does everything. The other was a newly arrived young lad, straight but cute as a button. He was pretty useless in bed however, lying there like a sack of potatoes. I ventured over to Sunee once when inspiration in Boyztown was lacking. Sunee is a shadow of it's former self of course, with many bars closed and those that were open had very few if any customers. I went directly to Winner, in the hope of finding a boy from my last trip in February. He was new then, and unlike the typical Winner boy he's compact and muscular. I was slightly surprised to see him still working in the bar, he didn't really seem cut out for it. He remembered me and was pleased to see me. He'd grown in confidence and his English had improved, so he was a chatty companion. He was below average in bed, but I knew that anyway, and I find him attractive enough not to mind. Overall my tally in the gogo bars was 4 new boys and 6 repeats from previous trips. Next time I'll be on the lookout for more new boys - I'll aim for a 50:50 ratio.

I too find BBB's now fully clothed boys far from satisfactory. A multitude of sins - such as body hair:) - could be hidden. It seemed only the muscular guys took their shirts off. There were a couple of potential offs last time, but I passed because I couldn't really check them out properly. They've also removed the proper seating directly in front of the stage and replaced it with small stools so they can cram a few more punters in for the show. Last time I was there, this resulted in a shrieking girl on the front row knocking drinks over behind her, as she recoiled from the fake cum in the big cock show. I had to sit through the rest of the show with beer soaked shorts.

I actually quite like the Avalon. Great location on the beach, grand public areas, nice pool, with large but dated rooms. I expect it was great in its heyday, but now it's managed as a 3 star property at best so don't expect much in the way of service. Breakfast was just OK. I've stayed at the Rabbit a couple of times. It's quirky and friendly with great service. One room had two queen beds, but only one of beds had bedside tables and lights; and the shower was in an annexe with a plastic roof which made a terrible racket when it rained. Breakfast was fine if you're not expecting an international standard buffet. It was quite a long walk back to resort late at night along the beach access road, it was pretty dark and quiet and I didn't feel 100% safe when alone.

If the Pattaya gay ex-pat community is a small and close knit as you say, surely the identity of the farang and the story is known to most already? For the majority of us who aren't ex-pats, well we're none the wiser!

If you're looking in A-Bomb a little after 9pm you're too early. Go back at 9.45-10pm. There are normally 8 or 10 guys, most of whom are quite hunky. A-Bomb is not one of those tightly regulated bars, the guys turn up when they want.

Bear in mind your travel/medical insurance policy almost certainly won't cover you if have an accident while riding on a motorbike, unless you've opted for additional 'dangerous actvities' cover. It's cheap and easy but in my view it's not worth the risk.

I'm an ass man myself. I've rimmed hundreds of bar boys. Everyone loves a big dick, but it's not my first priority. If I see a bar boy with hairy thighs or a treasure trail, they'll be ruled out as they've probably got a hairy ass. This is a problem in bars like BBB where they tend to be on stage fully dressed. As others have said, only a couple of boys over the years have returned the favor. I once offed a stunningly beautiful bar boy in Pattaya. I have offed boys with my western BF many times. When you ask a boy to sit with you he will wonder which of you will be his customer. Just sit them in the middle and take things from there. A boy will not turn down an off because there are two of you - business is business after all. Tips above the norm are not required, but will be welcomed if he's had to work overtime . If you and your BF like different boys in the bar, take both!

Last time I stayed at the Rabbit Resort there was no night time security at the beachfront entrance to even check!

I don't understand why anybody would visit a country where they are illegal. Yes you can avoid detection, but why would you want to? Go somewhere you are welcome.

I went back to Bangkok after a long break and paid 3 offs from 3 different Soi Twilight bars 1500 for short time. All 3 said they wanted 2000. I concluded 2000 was the going rate in Bangkok now and paid up. I never have a problem with 1500 in Pattaya.

100 Baht if they sit with me and I don't off them. But I don't grope them (unless they do it to me first:)
