  1. That is the way I read it too. It is pretty clear to me, that he is talking about the current situation. Just another Thaskin Dupe who is probably paid to say that.
  2. The man sounds like a red shirt, but he can't be, as he is brilliant and now the winner of two international awards. I say this because he says his country (Thailand) is being ran by a bunch of Mafia.
  3. I got a kick out of this when I opened the forum page as the topic preview read, "Baht weakens due to sharp sell-off by Gaybutton. Gee how much money do you have?
  4. Yes, I am dying to see the Thai government present their evidence at an extradition hearing. Look for this warrant being withdrawn. No need to argue about whether I am right or not, just watch and wait.
  5. I would love to see this play. I saw the 1970 film with Attenborough, and loved it. However, My NY friends, and a London friend told me that this movie was far better as a stage play. Why not take it on tour to Bangkok, Phuket and Chiang Mai. With the right advertising, good reviews, and advanced sales I think it could be a winner. Everyone needs a break from the news at the moment and this play is perfect.
  6. Terrible joke Bob and I heard it differently. Two Potatoes are standing on a street corner. Q. How do you tell which one is the Ho? A. He has a sticker that says I-da-HO and a Herpes sore on his mouth. My favorite Ho joke is about Tiger woods: Q. What's the difference between Tiger Woods and Santa Claus? A. Santa stopped at three ho's.
  7. Just like people where out of work during the airport shut down. Would not a better solution be to have an election and then abide by the results, or maybe to have an independent party broker a solution like several NGOs offered to do. Remember this all started with a the 18th military coup since 1932, and at that time Thailand was doing very well economically--whether or not you like Thaskin.
  8. I could not agree more. Why present evidence when all you need in innuendo. Joseph McCarthy would be proud of this Thai Visa article.
  9. I know just how you feel, but I can cheerfully point out some posts on other sites that clearly say that. One person who was banned from this board bragged about how Thailand used to be wide open day and night, with nude boys and f.. shows in every club, where booze was cheap and offs could be had for 200 BHt. This is a 2 year old post, but it is interesting that the author is now very anti red shirt in his posts. Try "good old days in Thailand" on SGT and wade through the 183 post and then go to the present and see who is the most anti-red. You can also see who is anti-red and then go back and read their old posts. Shocking. I am going to add one thing. I do not think that anyone on this board is that self-centered. At least I hope not.
  10. That says it all.
  11. Yes, it is an acceptable limit of the right of free speech. See Oliver Wendall Holmes on shouting "fire in a theater."
  12. Really???? I cannot speak for every country, only America. However, each and every Western country does have similar examples. All America lost sleep during the Boston massacre and we ended up with a new nation. All America lost sleep during the slave revolts led by Prosser, Vesey, and Nat Turner, and we ended slavery. In fact, the Turner revolt was a contributing factor to Britain's outlawing slavery. All America lost sleep during the Haymarket riots and we ended up with labor unions. All America lost sleep during the march on Selma and the other civil rights riots, and we passed the civil rights act. All America lost sleep during the Chicago riots and the Kent state Massacre and we finally got out of the war we could not win. Finally closer to home, all America lost sleep during the riots at Stonewall in New york, and we are slowly getting civil rights for homosexuals. I suspect you have taken history in the great state of Texas. Which brings me to the real core of the arguments we are having on this forum. Lack of understanding what the Red Shirts are really about. To you they are a bunch of rabble lead by a meglomaniac, to me and others (especially those of us who live in the North or Northeast) it is a civil rights movement. We know and talk to these red shirt people and we know they are not Thaskins dupes, or are they illiterate farmers, but people just like you and me who want a real voice in their government. Finally, I have been looking at Mr. Thaskin and trying to figure out why some gays seem to hate him. His party---Thailand for Thais---did the following. They stopped around the clock liquor sales, they set a minimum age for drinking, they required the sex workers in the clubs to be clothed at all times, they set and enforced a minimum age for being in a club, they set a time for the clubs and bars to close, and finally they gave land, jobs, health care and opportunity to many Thais throughout Thailand. Yes, there is little doubt that while doing this, Thaskin lined his own pockets, but on the whole his administration gave more benefits to the average Thai then all of anothers man's, who I cannot name, did in his entire lifetime. Where Thailand appeared to be heading under Thaskin was to become a more modern country with a greater distribution of the wealth similar to Singapore. Which means the standard of living would have climbed, the boys would have real jobs and you would have to pay much much more for a young man to have sex with you. I am not saying this is your motive for hating the Thailand for Thais movement, but I am sure there are many out there, who want to return to the "good old days" of wide open Thailand, who do have this motive. All I can say is shame on them.
  13. He must have thought he was at a British football game. Proof that the man is a moron is in the fact that he is still in country. If I had been stupid enough to be caught on a video displayed on utube saying those things, I would have immediately got on the first plane to anywhere else. This idiots stays in country. Duuuhhhhh
  14. He should go, and I think he will as the real powers need a scapegoat.
  15. Well said by both Hedda and Tdperhs. Hedda while I agree with you and love your last line. (Reminds me of the old English expression, "One might as well be hung for sheep, then a lamb.") I feel I must take some exception to talking about the one subject you think we should talk about. Like it or not we are guest in this country, and we should obey the laws that are enforced. Like you, I do not like it at all, but at some point reality should kick in, and the reality is we are living in a country where this law is enforced. While we cannot talk about that subject, we can and should direct others to articles in the economist or other news sources that can talk about it.
  16. I doubt they would do that. With Thaskin out of the way they would have no one to blame but themselves.
  17. I checked after luvthai's report. Protestor have surrounded the governor of Chiang Mai's house and are setting off fireworks. Narawat road is closed, but so far no soldiers! They are very angry---this is not going away anytime soon.
  18. GB does not allow me or anyone else to engage in name calling. You can think whatever pleases you, but I have not called you any names. However, I agree this discussion is over. I would get better conversation and a greater use of facts from Fox news.
  19. This must be a bringing joy to the window of Khattiya. Dead hunsband and now no money. Oh well, that means---according to some--that the protest will now be over. Hehehe
  20. Thai soldiers must immediately stop firing live ammunition into several large areas in Bangkok where anti-government protesters are gathered, Amnesty International said today. "Eye-witness accounts and video recordings show clearly that the military is firing live rounds at unarmed people who pose no threat whatsoever to the soldiers or to others," said Benjamin Zawacki, Amnesty International's Thailand specialist. "This is a gross violation of a key human right--the right to life". "Deliberately firing live ammunition at unarmed people, whether they be protesters or otherwise and who pose no credible threat to anyone else, is unlawful", said Zawacki..."The government cannot allow soldiers to essentially shoot at anyone within an area it wishes to control", said Zawacki. . . "This is unacceptable under international law and standards, which provide that firearms may be used only as a last resort, when a suspected offender offers armed resistance or otherwise jeopardizes the lives of others, and less extreme measures are not sufficient to restrain or apprehend the suspected offender. Outside of clear situations of self-defence, riot control should be performed by trained police using non-lethal equipment, not by soldiers using live ammunition," said Zawacki." http://us.asiancorrespondent.com/bangkok-p...of-lethal-force
  21. No you can easily have a revolution when people are fed up enough. Revolutions are not plots of a few but mass disturbances. So is what is happening in Bangkok. Have you forgotten that the red shirts had the most votes when there was an election. Please you are about to lose me as a responder if you are telling me you believe the crap that was called, "The Protocols of the Elders of Zion". I will not even discuss or in any way acknowledge that racist, piece of crap. No, I am not Jewish. Thank you for that admission. I was suspicious of your statement, but did not think you are a liar. I will not accept what you unknown friend say however. I am reading all the thread on all the boards and watching the films. Are you watching the films on U-tube that can be found on Ting and Tong and the articles on Baht stop, or are you just looking for things to support your belief system I heard an awful lot of Western business people complain about the corruption in China, and I heard a lot of screaming by Chinese when the earthquake happened and the schools came tumbling down. The China Daily out of Shanghi reports that corruption is the number one problem the people face. http://www.chinadail...ent_9269894.htm Maybe this sounds like a good progressive government that is bent on pulling thousands out of poverty, but I have my doubts as all the bureaucrats are busy lining their pockets, there is no environmental controls, no work place safety, no labor department determining work rules and wages. I freely admit that conditions are better now, then during the cultural revolution, but hardly what I would call a far better job then Western governments protecting their workers and their environment. We have wondered off topic with this one. We are either finished discussing Thailand, or we need to start another thread.
  22. Well you are going to have to tell me where the money came from in each case as my history books (my degree is in history) called them all middle class revolutions and some happened overnight and others took years. For instance the Russian revolution started in 1905 and Lenin was just another player until after the Czar was overthrown. He was not even the leader at that time. I suggest you read "A people's tragedy" by Orlando Figes, as it is one of the best books I have seen on the subject. I have a little trouble believing the government, but I do believe your evidence. as I do not believe that you would lie to make a point. So you think the average Thai is willing to get killed for 1000 Baht per day. I don't believe that. However I think they would willingly die for a cause they believe in. These are not ignorant peasants. You are making the same mistake the government is making. Yes that could apply in Italy's case but definitely poverty, and the desire to have a voice in goverment in the Russian and French case. Remember the Russian revolution really started in 1905. Good point, but in a sense they did buy off (compromise with) the protesters, something this government seems to have no intention of doing. Secondly, what is going to happen in China when the gravy train ends? That will be the true test of the government's popularity, and its ability to hold power without giving the people a greater voice in their government. I leave you with my one of my favorite quotes which is often misquoted. This is for the Thai government. "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it."--George Santayana
  23. Give me a break. I guess I, and all the newspapers, and the cops who interviewed Cunanan's friends got it all wrong. If anyone cares they can look it up and make there own decision. By the way Oswald did not kill Kennedy, and it is all a plot. (For the dense out there the last sentence is a joke.)
  24. I just did including the actual police reports on smoking gun dot com. What do you think is wrong? Try murder versache or Versache murder on google.
  25. Actually, the mass protest in the past have not require funding, and I find it terribly hard to believe that people are dying in the streets because Thaskin is paying them. I really think you are underestimating the reality of the red shirt movement, and the strength of their belief in their cause. However, we are now both on record and I for one will remind you when we know the results. Please, do not get me wrong, I am still hoping for needed and necessary compromise and not a civil war.
