  1. A poster on another message board just posted this news report on China's construction of empty cities and empty Condos that the average Chinese can't buy. Talk about a government with no clue, heading for a giant disaster. Your input would be appreciated, since I know you travel there often.

I agree, but the UK's and Europe's agriculture subsidies are miniscule compared to what we do in the US. All of these subsidies are stupid, wasteful, and counter productive;. Yes, we should store our surplus, and it would not be long before the rising demand for food products would more then pay us back, and in the meantime save us Billions in tax money. An old policy kept alive by sectarian politics.

A good start, but what are you trying to do. Find out about Thailand or Thai culture, or get a feel for life in Thailand as an ex-pat. You have sort of lost me as I am not really sure what you are looking for. If you are a sex tourist there is one set of recommendations, If you are looking to retire there is another set, and it still is not that simple. For example, if you want to find a good BF, I wiould give you one type of advice and if you wanted to play around another. Then there is the possibility that you want to know how much money you need, what kind of housing is best, car, thai law, etc. I hate to say it, since you seem to spurn them, but the very best way is to read the threads. By reading the thread you can get many different answers, but if you look hard I think you will soon discern there are truths in there you can use. Still not sure about something, post a question and you will get your answer. By reading and posting on a good message board you will also find some really good people you can PM for more direct conversation. There are many bright people that are out there that DO have the answers you are looking for, you should really make use of their experience. A good start is this message board. When it is not invaded by some old failure looking for a fight it is composed of many people who are both educated and politically aware. Give us a try by telling us exactly what you want to know, for what reason.
  5. The best book on the whole China fiasco is "Stillwell in China" by Barbara Tuchman -well know historian and author of "The Guns of August." It is a must read for the whole Chinese mess and agrees with everything you said. As for Vietnam and Laos, please look up this key player who made a long series of stupid foreign policy decisions. I am talking about conservative Christian John Foster Dulles who was the real leader of America's foreign policy during the majority of Ike's Administration. Oh, do not forget his older brother, Allen Dulles who was just as bad and led the CIA.

  7. My Norton is up to date to Bob. I think the site was hijacked and it may be clear now. My Norton now has the site as a malicious site and keeps warning me, but this time no message that is supposed to be from firefox comes on and tries to clean up viruses on my computer. That is what happened the first time and when this started Norton immediately closed the web page. I love Norton as I have never had a successful attack with Norton installed and I always keep it current.
  8. WARNING NORTON SAYS THE ABOVE IS A MALICIOUS SITE
  9. Yes, but what is the correct answer. Does the site say? I thought 2100 was way to obvious, but I may have over thought it.
  10. Yes, but has it lost that minute at 2039 or at 2100?
  11. Agree, this man is a living Saint and he has participated both in the Seattle AIDS walk and the Gay Parade in Seattle. A truly remarkable man. While in Seattle he commented that other gay actors are reluctant to come out. I can think of many greats of the past like Sir Lawrence Oliver who could have helped like Sir Ian is doing.
  12. 1. ex 2. 2059 (maybe 2100 but that seems to obvious) 3. X 4. P=20 5.26 6. solitude Come on Michael, I've been to Alabama and the only genius I met were banjo playing savants.
  13. Okay, first off happy new year to all. Now I have a question about New Years in Thailand that does bother me and here is where I hope to find the answer. I have a maid who comes in once a week to clean. Besides paying her weekly, I have been tipping her on Western New Years and not Chinese or Thai New Years. According to my BF this is okay, but I wonder if it would not be more appropriate to wait for Thai New Years. Come on, someone help me, when is it Thai's expect their employer to give them a New Years Bonus?
  14. I agree and would add one more thing. This is the only place of relative peace and quiet in the Soi. Yes, ideal for eye candy or just plain people watching as some of the Farangs are as interesting (good and bad interesting) as the cute Thai boys.
  15. Not only are they given antibiotics but they are conditioned to want them and take them. This is one of the repeating arguments I have with my BF, who is college educated and more then reasonably smart. Yes, this practice is clearly a time bomb waiting to explode.
  16. Great report and please, visit often. The only thing I would suggest is that Pattaya is not the only place for fun in Thailand. Check out Chiang Mai, Hua Hin, for a entirely different scene, and these are just two of many of places in Thailand;.
  17. Well you are certainly not going to counter anything in the gulf of Thailand where the sea is too swallow for effective submarine use. Hell even HRH know this for a fact http://asiancorrespondent.com/27060/following-hm-the-kings-message/
  18. 88,000 AND COUNTING. Very sad. I am presently in the US and flying home via Narita but not to the first of next month.
  19. I agree. I love Venice, but aside from the fantastic art it is just a tourist trap. My recommendations would be to move some of the buildings, most of the churches and all of the art to the mainland. Even with this multi-billion dollar flood control it is only a matter of time before the place disappears. To save it, billions more will soon be needed to shore up much of the town whose foundations are falling apart, and very soon the dam will have to be up all the time turning Venice into a giant sewer. Venice cannot be made functional again, let it go.
  20. I am not sure what the above means. What I think you are trying to say is that what we really need is a whole new energy policy and we should learn to rely more on coal and shale. If I am correct, this seems like a good idea but I have not read where the environmentalist have signed on to this. Until they do, I am skeptical of these resources. Me I see the need for more Nuclear plants and greater use of electicity. However, regardless of what energy policy we adopt we need to emphasis our core values with our friends and others. I, for one, am tired of supported every two bit dictator in the world. If they won't give freedom to their people I don't want anything to do with them. Furthermore, the real problem in the world, that tops energy policy is the population problem. Until we tackle this problem there is no long term solution to many of the world's problem. Basically what is occurring in the Middle East is too many trained and skilled people and no jobs or any future job prospects. I am afraid that most of these revolutionaries are in for a shock once the dust settles, and things do not change.
  21. I think we are always nice, even when we disagree. I've been to Boston frequently and they claim to have the second oldest subway. I do not know of the other site, but will guess the City of Paris?
  22. Please explain?
