Good question Michael. Yes, In Chiang mai there are many fine restaurants and places to go and I hit the gay scene about once or twice a week, and then mostly at a friendly neighborhood bar. Most of the people at this bar are regulars and the scene is distinctly social and not sexual.

Sounds like you had a great time. If you can afford it, why not. Life is short and it sounds like you know how to enjoy it.

Yoka Dok. Gay owned, but mixed and open now for two years. Voted the best bar in Chiang Mai in "OUT" magazine. Nobody will bite you---unless you ask---as it is a friendly bar.

Another cruising place that I've heard him mention is JJ Market at night, but how and where I have no idea, so you may ask that as a direct question. JJ Market is a collection of 100 bars, clubs and restaurants. Mandalay---also called Mandagay---may be another place you might try.

I don't cruse outside of the gay areas, definitely AYOR with underages, etc. and I have no interest in teens or high risk dates. However, if you were to contact the web site of Radchada.com you will get an answer as the writer seems to know all the cruising placesl, but does not post them on his web site.

Chiang Mai has always had one of the longest celebrations of Songkran. but this year will be way over the top. We started today with the booths lining the moat and Huey Kaew and man streets and there are already several thousand people out there spraying water, and the roadside bands have set up and are blasting away. Rumor has it this may go on till the 18th but it is at least 4 days this year. Anyone who loves water sports---not those water sports---is welcome to come to Chiang mai and have a great time.

Because your a fertility god, at least that is what your BF says about you. However, I think he means proficency in English. Guess what, you will have no problem finding a job if you plan to teach English here. The thais have one of the lowest levels of proficiency in Asia. What you are going to have to deal with is a lot of Thai English teachers who really do not have a clue about how to teach English. Some of the bar boys speak passable English but many just know phrases like, "where your from", "what your name", "how much you pay me", etc.... You will find the pay is not that good, but in compensation Thailand has some of the best looking gay young men in the world and you can make good money with private lessons. The closer to Bangkok you are the better the pay and the better the English, but the cost are also higher. Good luck and feel free to use this board for all and any questions you may have. Do not be that alarmed by the Westboro group. Several of them are lawyers and they do what they do in order to get people to break the law and then they sue them. It is more of a racket that a true belief. Truly they do run when no one gets mad and just makes fun of them. I know some of those people you see them running from and they have their number now.

I spent a week in Venice in November. Not the best weather, but very few tourist and prices are reasonable. I stayed on the Lido, but next time strongly suggest a stay in Padua. Just a short train ride from Venice, many college types, gay night life, great art of its own and very picturesque. Staying in Venice itself can be dull at night or I just don't know where to hang out. As to Venice sinking, I could not help but notice that many of the buildings are sagging to one side or the other., and need bracing. I think the foundations are going to go long before the city sinks.
