  1. On the other hand, only (according to the liberal Gaurdian) 3000 people turned out to protest her legacy at Trafalgar square. Hardly an overwhelming show of hate. As I said in another post, I did not always agree with this lady, but I admired that she was a decisive leader. Something we seem to lack in the USA. However, like her or not, BBC is wrong. This is a public paid organization, and it should represent all of the public. Freedom of speech means even allowing things that may be in bad taste. This would not stand in the USA and shame on BBC. As an aside I do get a kick out of what her funeral is costing the English Public. There is little doubt in my mind that if Thatcher was ruling England she would not have allowed this expense.
  2. No, but we will be returning from a week in China during this period. What I intend to do is what I always do. I am going to go with my Thai partner to the Thai only counter. It is legal, but not widely advertised. We do this going in and out of the country. No problems and fast.
  3. I never could stand Ronald Reagan, but I must admit that he and Margaret did put tremendous pressure on the Soviet Union. Their confrontational policies and willingness to force the USSR into an arms race they could not afford did do a lot to cause the fall of the USSR. I also think they both had a personal connection with Gorbachev that helped convince him to let the Eastern block countries go their own way. Furthermore, she was absolutely correct on the Falklands war. As a student of that war I must admire her courage and willingness to do what needed to be done even in the face of criticism from some other nations. On the other hand her use of force to put down the workers and remove a lot of the safety nets did not endear her to me. Like her or not, you must admit she was one of a kind. Also, I often complain that the people we elect try to make decisions by what is popular and not do what they were elected to do, which is to lead. She may have been a real bitch at times, but she did the leading based on her principles--right or wrong--, and truly earned the name "iron Lady".
  4. Darn I know this too. The questions of this topic have gone from where I grew up to where I have lived for the last 22 years when I am not in Thailand. Seattle is very close to Redmond, Washington and the home of a famous Irish/Canadian and latter American actor and I know the plague and where it is in Scotland as it was a big news item. Some of his ashes were to go into space. Sadly they never made it, and the rest of his ashes are scattered in Puget Sound.
  5. Shame on you for not knowing there are several McDonalds. I am sure Gaybutton could tell you where each and every McDonalds is and what is on their menu for the day. However he does have a point that the term Hottest is hard to define. Suggest you tell the board what is HOT to you, and I am sure that one of the members who lives in Pattaya who likes to see and help newcomers, without being sassy, will gladly help you. You might also check out the town by using Google. Hope you find what you looking for and that you enjoy your stay in Thailand.
  6. I've never heard his name verbally and quite forget you Ukers don't spell words correctly. Is is pronounce Ian. Can one of you sound it out by its phonetics.
  7. I was very sad to hear that one of my favorite writers is suffering from a terminal illness and soon to die. Lain Banks or Lain M. Banks is one of the best living writers of the English language. I first started reading his science fiction books and was soon immersed in his fantastic creation of the anarchist Culture society. I soon discover that his also wrote regular fiction and read the incredible "The Wasp Factory". He has an incredible mind and a fantastic ability to put words together. This coupled with his disdain for much of religion and his grasp of the human mind make him a "must read" author. While some of the best films and books in America have come from Cormac McCarthy, In the UK one can easily say that Lain Banks has been the UK's counterpart.
  8. I grew up in the infamous Stockton California which is only 80 miles from San Francisco.
  9. You sound a little harsh this morning Bob. Until I got older, I always had better then normal eyesight, and even now it is still good. Nevertheless, I have left a cab, been in a hurry, and done the same thing as the above posters where I gave a 500 thinking it was a 100 bill;. Sometimes we just have other things on our mind and these bills do look very like each other at a glance.
  10. Well I hope you can read this. There are two sign in areas. One is for the forum and the other is the dating, porno, etc. Sign in the bottom one or look for forum on your maintenance page and go there.

    Returning to Laos

Great report--think I will go. Is three days enough or too much?
  12. We are not amused and at the moment killer pussy is traveling from the USA to have a TALK with you. Watch your back.
  13. I am not addicted to message boards. Sometimes I go days without posting. Of course after a couple of days I do start to get stomach cramps and cold sweats, but I am sure that is just normal Thai food poisoning. I mean if i was addicted I would just be posting just to post, and now I will post this. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh...........
  14. Yes, and it broke poor Bob's heart to see it gone.
  15. No because, without naming names, I know someone who does that and she has a perfectly good reason for doing so. As i said she has at least four names and possibly many more. I will say she does not argue with herself, but she has posted on the same subject with different names. Nor have I ever seen her use two names to attack one person. I will tell you the names and who in a PM if you would like.
  16. Okay, I used too many words. Simple version---All you say about hydra users like the man you mentioned in your first post is likely correct. However, if you try to paint all hydra users that way, you would be wrong. Too general for every case. Your question should not be people who use hydras, but this person who uses hydras, or these people like this person. Clear, I hope.
  17. As a Seattle native, I can tell you that Schultz has always been a supporter of the gay community, both in his company and in the city as a whole.
  18. Trust me, his sentence is miniscule compared to some of LMTUs. The question is just to vague. First off people are really only nuts when they fail to see reality and lose all sense of right and wrong. We generally put these people in a hospital. Your question is like: Why are some people gay and others straight? Why do some people drink themselves drunk each night? Why are some people drug addicts and others not? Why do some people like men instead of women or children instead of adults? Why do some people tell jokes that no one laughs at or make quips that aren't really funny? Etc. The truth is that while some of the things people do can be explained by a tag like personality disorder, human nature is vastly different from person to person and there really is no easy answers for most NORMAL human behavior (opposite the definition of nuts above). I too know the board you are referring too and the person and his many names on that board. I will admit he is one odd bird. However, consider another person on that board who may run it, who also has multiple names and personalities and she/he seems perfectly normal but likes to sound profound, and yet not have her name the only one on the board so she has at least five names she post under. Is she as nuts as the first guy, or is she being logical realizing it does not appear good that she dominates the board. No easy answers. I, just like Michael, have never used another identity, but there have been times when i wish I had. I once commented on another board about a board owner and it got me thrown off his board. I have also heard some people who I have a good relationship on a board tell an untruth that I know to be wrong, and would love to have challenged them, but did not want to damage the relationship. It is tempting however to wish I had another name to call them on that. The BB board has been mentioned at times and I am reminded of Neal coming on that board under another name to defend himself, and monitor what was being said. Hardly anything that sounds nuts. Sorry Scottish guy, but this is the type of question you ask when you have an answer you yourself are trying to supply. I am not saying you are wrong in this case about this person, but definitely wrong for every case.
  19. I simply find Bangkok Airlines the best airline to fly regardless of the price. I love the service, the lounge open to all and the ease of booking a flight on-line. Air Asia is rarely cheaper and lacks any pretense of caring about customers.
  20. Actually, i disagree with Spector's and Brix's assumption---tacit or otherwise---that he could not have stopped the military. They go to great lengths to personify Hirohito's value as a symbol and leader of the Japanese people, and wax eloquently about how important it was that he not be tried as a criminal as he is essential to the Japanese psyche, but then dismiss that he could have stopped the military if he had wanted too. The truth was he did not want too, in fact he encouraged them in their path. Michael, i would read the Brix book. I agree with David Bergamini assessment of the emperor, but his books are very difficult to read. Here is a long summary of what is covered in Bergamini's book. The summary is good---I read the books---but this source is quite a surprise. http://www.hope-of-israel.org/hirohito.htm
  21. I am very familiar with Brix's book and in no way does he excuse Hirohito fro his role in the rise of militarism. Brix has written a summation of his book here----http://japanfocus.org/-herbert_p_-bix/2741 where he clearly states, "But in no fundamental way have these scholarly efforts altered the picture of Hirohito as the activist, dynamic, politically empowered emperor who played a central role in Japan’s undeclared wars" I would suggest you also read the writings of Hirohito's aide de camp Honjo who wrote a diary detailing Hirohito's contempt for the civilian rule in Japan and his support of the military. These writing are summarized in both Brix's book and in John Tolands excellent two volumn work "the rise and fall of Japan" Finally the definitive work on Hirohito's role in the war which came out one week before his US visit. David Bergamini's "Japans imperial conspiracy" which minces no words and put a lot of the blame on the man himself. You can buy this book here http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/10997603-japan-s-imperial-conspiracy or on kindle.
  22. Any film that portrays Hirohito as just a pawn is a fraud to begin with,. In spite of the best efforts of the Japanese to hide the fact, the emperor was an integral part of the militancy of Japan and was far more guilty then many of the generals we did execute.
  23. I still think the first board was very acceptable, and at times quite funny. Each subsequent reincarnation got weirder and stranger. Unlike you or Scottish guy, I haven't even looked at this new version, and still can't understand your fascination with reading it.
  24. Sadly mine too. Not just on line but in person as well. From childhood on the boys who are gay in the PI receive so many negetive messages about being gay from their church, family, etc they they really get messed up in the head. Others in the PI have had different, good experiences and I envy them and wish I had had some kind of luck in the two months I looked for a real PI BF.
  25. It strikes me strange that Pizzas and Bagels are now considered American Food.
