  1. The article quoted above does not really mention
  2. Allen, Glad to see you may have an occasional post as you recover. I tried sending email to the address you supplied but it bounced back. Aren't computers fun!!!! I will try again later
  3. I think it is fantastic that so many people attendedthe event and so much money was raised. The promoters of this event have as usual done a wonderful service to those with HIV/AIDS. But anyone that may be new and thinking of visiting "Boys Town" may be wondoering, after looking at the great pictures provided by Boxer......where are the boys. It seems from the pictures that it is a town of "drag queens". Just an observation from the pictures I viewed.
  4. I know there was some talk on one of the forums about the book "The King Never Smiles". I did not read those posts, but have just finished reading the book. What I think though is that the book explains much of what is currently going on in Thailand now. The book was written before the current coup took place . But I gained a better understanding of a sufficiency economy, Village Scouts, and of some of the main players in today's government. I was amazed how the book explains in part what may really be behind the current coup.
  5. I too have noticed that the BPH seems to feel root canals are the best way to correct problems. I have had work done for me and my Thai friend at the hospital. They did 3 root caanls on him and one on me and suggested another for me. They also did 2 crowns for my Thai friend. As I was going back to the USA I waited and had my Los Angeles dentist take a look since I have dental insurance. The LA dentist simply filed down a high spot on the tooth and there was no more pain. I was astonished that that is all it was. Since that time we have changed dentist to one on second road. They seem to do very good work and it has been much cheaper. The doctor we "went back to" had actually fitted my friend with braces several years ago. The only reason we changed is that I thought the clinic at the hospital would be better. We never had complaints with the one on second road. One of the grreat things about these forums is when a thread likes this one, leads to good suggestions. Thanks
  6. As reported in the Bangkok Post recently, many Thais, according to a survey, are changing their mind about the new government. According to the survey it seems the new government is confused and not making headway in any way. I am beginning to think the same.
  7. I too would like to thank you GB for giving us the good news that GP is doing better. Gp as noted by many others is a wonderful man.
  8. I hoped that the appeal to help our friend would be pinned with the email addresses so people can make contact and find out how to make donations. They have made the process very easy. Allen has given so much free advertising to all the gay venues over many years at his personal expense due to his own desire to make people aware of what Pattaya and other towns in Thailand offer. I believe it would be very appropraite to list the bars and restraunts that have donated as a way of continuing to advertise their good deeds. I believe the owners are very generous and have the ability to donate very quickly since they are right there in Pattaya. I am not trying to push this work onto anyone. I just happen NOT to be in Pattaya right now or would be very happy to volunteer to go place to place and collect their donations. Pattaya is a very close knit community and has always risen to challenges. Allen is a friend and I am a bit frustrated that I am not there to help other than to donate which I have done. The people in charge however are fine people and I am glad they are doing their best to be of help. Thanks to all who are pitching in.
  9. Thanks topmanb for all you are doing to help Allen
  10. The suggestion that the bars get together and put on a fund raiser is very good. Maybe someone also go see each of the bar and restaraunt owners and ask for an immeditate donation. I can not imagine anyone would refuse. *Brian I have sent you an email and need to know where to dekiver a donation***
  11. Allen (Gaypattayan) is a fantastic person. He worked tirelessly letting all of us what was going on or being planned. It was a great support for those of us who were visitors to Thailand and full time residents. I wish Allen a fast and full recovery.
  12. There was a recent article in Bangkok Post saying that the government has received many complaints about tourists being charged a much higher fee than Thais at restaurants. I doubt it will change but the "government spokesperson" said it was wrong and would be investigated because it was not good for tourism.
  13. In this week's "Weekly Report" from Gay Pattayan, in the email he sends to those registered through Yahoo, he told us that due to health problems he was considering possible changes to the weekly report. Gay Pattyan reported that while he really enjoys doing the report which he has done for many many years without hardly ever missing a deadline; he may need to limit the frquency or lenght of the report. He reproted he has had a pace maker inserted and is going to have surgey to relieve pressure from water on the brain caused by a weakened heart which is causing him confusion. Gay Pattayan closed his forum a few years due to the abuse of some posters (similar to what we have recently seen on this site). He did continue his weekly report. Gay Pattayan seemd worried about what his readers would think and thought it would be helpful if there was some thought given to this on the "forums". I have emailed Gay Pattayan and have given him my best wishes and encouraged him to think it over with his closest friends. Maybe some of you who have also enjoyed the report and his amazing effort would like to comment either here or by private email. In any case I wish him the very best in this difficult time
  14. I think the last quote of the article is the reason for the bombs. It was to make people afraid. It is a shame that has happened. Since they have fingerprints, maybe the government needs to take prints of more than known criminals. It is indeed expensive and I don't know if Thailand has the capacity. But in the US it has been effective to have a database that includes a large number of the population. I believe when I went to get to take my Thai drivers license, they my fingerprints. I wonder if all the politicans, police, and military have been finger printed.
  15. This kind of reply is not necessary! This kind of post is exactly, in my opinion, what we want to have stopped. ANd worse yet in my opinion is that this attack was done by the very moderator who wants to "clean things up". The above post has NOTHING to do with Gay Thailand and is an attack on another poster. Let's get real about this, please. "No personal attacks", need to apply to everyone! Moderators should not be excluded. I remember the good old days when posts were made "invisible". Poof! or is is Puff! Damn I can't remember how to make this invisible GB just laugh. It is not the end of the world....you are loved! Please try to relax.
  16. I think it was a good decision to reopen the thread and am glad to learn that with GT taking a sabbatical there will be no major changes to the board as GB has promised. I do however think the tone of "If you like the way I do it, great. If you don't, tough luck.", sends a negative message. I TOTALLY agree that spiteful attacks have no place here and I truly dislike them. But I hope we do not confuse a well thought out disagreement with an attack. Opinions differ. GB has mentioned that he had disagreements with GT on how to treat posts. Which shows the point I was making. Without seeing how GB will handle things on his own, and only relying on history and what GB has posted above, I have reservations about the future. I also get great information from GB. (NOTE to GB. Please notice the sincere praise). I realize that moderation is difficult. I wish people would not attack others and could disagree courteously as has been suggested many times by GB and others. GB goes out of his way to answer questions about Thailand. I do not mean to show any disrespect to him or the other posters. I just enjoy this site so much I would hate to see it become as GB's last site became...basically one poster. In my opinion, GT had a way of injecting good control with out harsh words.
  17. I think the forum is going very well. Too bad, in my opinion, that just because GT is doing something else for awhile, the moderation will change to suit, in his words not mine, "a control freak". I certainly enjoy this forum much more than the others in great part to the moderators doing a wonderful job and GB adding great information. I do hope that contnues, but am sad to see the stated change.
  18. I believe the lemons I see are from Australia and cost 75 baht each. Did they use to call UK sailors limeees?
  19. When I have been to Friendship or Foodland I have found the price of yellow lemons really expensive. When eating at Manhattans a few weeks ago I noticed they gave a large yellow lemon with the crab cakes. I was going to ask the owner where he bought them and the price, but he was going through the restaurant talking to other customers. I believe that limes and lemons are able to grow in the same climate. So does anyone know why the lemons which seem to be imported are so expensive?
  20. Does this mean that the only penalty is that they can not seek public office or be part of a political party? No jail time or need to pay fines? If this is true, it seems that it was a good "business decision"
  21. Here are my thoughts about the Jomtien Gay Street Party, which I enjoyed very much! 1. They were very organized. You could see there was a lot of work that went into the event. 2. Next time the budget for promotion might be a little better, however there was a good sized crowd there. 3. It was a good idea to keep the buffet going longer than planned. We got there a little late and were told the buffet was still being served and then an announcement was made that the buffet would stay open another hour. The food was plentiful and good variety 4. At the beginning of the event things moved along from singers to dancers to contestants, etc. Towards the end of the night they seemed to get off schedule and it started to slow down too much. 5. The acts were fantastic! I do not go to Jomtien very often, but have decided to go and see some of the shows. The shows seemed very fresh and had great energy. 6. It was nice to see so many of my friends there. They all seemed to have been enjoying themselves. 7. I think it is better to have it in mid December instead of at the same time as the PGF. This gives different groups of visitors to see one or the other festival...instaed of everything being the same week. 8. Next year I hope the MC's plan their jokes a little better. Mocking those that wear speedo and are over weight or wear hair pieces may not be funny to those that are going to the beach and pay the bills of the bars. One of the sponsors sells that swim wear. I did not like it when they started to try compare Boyztown to Jomtien...as Jomtien was better. I am so happy that there are 3 different main areas. They don't need to be hostile to one another but should compliment each other. Working together is always better in this type of town. 9. I wish that the lucky draw would decide to post the winning ticket numbers instaed of having to be present to win. I think more tickets would be sold as some wat to come for a few hours of fun and then leave. Since they went over schedule many people had left when the licky draw started. I gave my tickets to a few bof the waiters and wished them luck I am looking forward to next year. I am sure it will continue to improve. I had a great time.
  22. Wowpow, Let me help you bounce it. Are you going to be there? Where do you think the best seating will be?
  23. I am happy that my Thai friend has some rental property. Since he collects in baht, we decided to spend the rental money and save the dollars in the US Bank, hoping that some day SOON the dollar will become stronger. Does anyone have a financial adviser he uses here in Thailand that they would reccommend?
  24. I had an interesting experience. When I found the place I went in and due to the time I went, there was just a waitress and the boy behind the bar. I was the only customer at the time. I sat down and ordered a bottle of water and a Philly Cheese Sub. The boy behind the bar went to make the sub and the waitress sat down and started to ask me the usual questions, my name, where I was from...etc. She asked me where I liked to go and I said Boyztown. She said, "You like boy?" I said no, just food, thanks. She went to the back, I thought to check on my food, but came back with a boy with a shirt on that said, "Red Dragon Boys go-go"..........now that is thoughtful customer service!
  25. " tried it too and I enjoyed it as much as you did. It is located about halfway down Soi Yamato, between Second Road and the Beach. If you start at Royal Garden, just go north, toward Central Road (Pattaya Klang). Soi Yamato is two sois up from Royal Garden. It is also marked as Soi 13/2. " I tried it today for the first time. I had a hard time finding it. I learned the soi 13/2 is actually Soi Post Office. Soi 13/1 is Soi Yamato. It is the same corner as Starbucks on Beach Road. So if you are looking for SUb and Suds, you need to be on Soi 13/1 which is Soi Yamato.
