  1. I think your idea of a bike ride from Pattaya to Bangkok is well worth trying but I would suggest you do the ride from Bangkok to Pattaya. I believe there is a gay riding club in Bangkok but am not sure if you meant bike ride or life cycle ride. I would think if you had some well connected Thais and could not only sell it as a charity but as a way to bring international tourist in to participate it may help and could become an annual event. But it sounds like a big task but one with your determination you might pull off. I wish I was financially able to help with a charity to buy some land and create a soccer field in Pattaya for the use of the guys that work in the clubs. Not sure but I think it could be self supporting with tournaments and other events even creating revenue for other charities. Whatever you decide I will try to donate something, but no way could I ride. I could walk on a treadmill but it may stretch the event out to six months!
  2. He did have a break in about a week after he moved in. However, you may want to see what they did to make sure it will not happen again. It is very secure due to the security improvements. He was very happy with the house. Maybe take another look...up to you. As to my neighborhood, we have not have any problems. There are just 2 streets where I live off soi bongkot so the estate agent must have had a different area in mind.
  3. I also live in a non-gated community. I've had the house for about 3 years, but have lived continuously in it for just over a year. We have never had a problem nor has anyone in the neighborhood. It is off third road between pattaya tai and pattaya klang. I mention that because you said you thought Jomtien would be safer, which may be true, but I am in the pattaya city center. My neighbors are a mix of farang and thai and great people. If you are looking for a place, I think Gary from Corner Bar has a very nice house with pool that he rented to a friend of mine for about a year. It is behind the Mac Hotel. My friend liked it very much. It has very good security.
  4. You maybe correct but I read that a search warrant was issued when a boy said he had sex with someone 3 years ago.
  5. On Third Rd going North from Pattaya Tai about 1 long block is a new pizza place called Koh Lanta Pizza. It has a wood fired oven in which they bake their pizzas. For the month of June they are promoting 50% on their pizzas. (It is right next to Kombat gym) So if you want to try it you can get an 8" for about 75 - 110 baht. You can eat there or take away. It is comfortable inside. They also have salads, spaghetti (70 - 130 baht) and calzone. I tried it and thought it was ok....my Thai friend thought it was good. It still doesn't meet the taste I am looking for. But it is another choice. tel: 08-0232-4888
  6. I received an e-mail yesterday that said one of the bar owners whose bar looks like he has very young employees (underage) is being pressured to name or confirm that certain customer frequented his bar. Some might not have offed these below legal age boys but sat with them in the bar or sat beside them when other customers called the boy over. The owner apparently had cameras in his bar as required by law, but he kept the tapes....who knows why. The email said that he is cooperating with police to save his skin as a purveyor of under age sex. If this rumor is true, more people than suspected may face trouble
  7. I read on another forum SGT that Aaron said that the Birdcage is NOT closing. Tam will continue to manage the bar without Marsha. That is good news
  8. No so fast! Aaron, Kquill's son posted that the Birdcage is NOT closing.....so much for accurate scoops!
  9. I think I am looking for the one like San Francisco
  10. Slippery slope. In some countries, the use of "catching pedophiles" was used by the Christian Right to get at gay men. In the USA this happens today. The press is much more obsessed with the reporting of male on male pedophilia. The hope was that a stigma would be placed on all gays, especially gay men. From reports coming out of Thailand it looks that every gay person visiting Thailand must be coming here for under age male sex. Expats living here have settled here because they all like "young" boys. It does not matter that most are with males over 18. I am going to write a letter to Pattayamail asking why only male to male pedophilia is being reported and clamped down on. I hope others that wonder the same will do something similar. There have been some good posts here as to why this happens from an Asian view. I however do not think it is for this reason. I have noticed that there is a rise of western religious right NGO coming into Thailand. The groups I believe are well financed. I agree with Gaybutton. It is more important than ever to make sure that you know the real age of someone you off. But that is no guarantee. When raids begin in Thailand, it is an opportunity for police and scam artist to set traps. In Thailand you seldom win the "he said, he said game". I problem with the crack down is that it is at this point purely aimed at male-male pedophilia.
  11. I am waiting anxiously for the answer to GB's question. I have been to several places and have not found one I enjoy. I drove by a new one opening on 3rd Rd close to Pattaya Tai and will try it soon.
  12. I understand what GB is saying about less customers to make a promotion payoff. However we do have a good number of expats in Pattaya. Let's see how Happy Boys does. In some bars the price of a drink is 150 baht ($5). The cost of making that drink depending on the drink is 20 - 35 baht (.67 - $1.15). So if a bar sells only 20 drinks, the profit from those drinks is at least $80. (diet coke drinkers contribute a profit of 110 baht or about $3.50 per drink). Off fees and tips add much more to the profit. My friend that owns a bar on a pattayaland soi, has this policy. If a boy does not get offed he gives him 100 baht plus a coupon for a meal at one of the carts in addition to his regular monthly salary. When the boy is offed he does not get the extra 100 baht that night. His monthly salary seems low to me (go-go gets 3000 baht) But even with no offs the boy can make 6000 baht plus 30 meals. His idea of the 100 baht a month is to help the boy budget and also to help encourage him to show up for work. They of course get extra for having a drink with a customer. Some bars use a "fine" system. If a boy does not come to work, shows up late, does not earn enough offs or drinks with a customer; the owner reduces their salary. So many times the boys salary is really reduced and since given at one time.....the boy is broke long before the end of the month.
  13. I gather from what has been said that if you want to pay the off fee you can do so. If you want to drink 450 baht worth you can do it that way. I hope the promotion gets more people into the bar. I do not know of any other bar that is doing any promotions other than those that have quiz games etc which they have all year long. Which brings up the point. WHY do the bars not do promotions in low season if the owners are really struggling? Or does struggling mean they are not making 400,000 baht a month profit which many make in high season (?). It seems that some of the customers go out of their way to "help" the bars more than many owners. The bars that I go to in the USA were always having promotions. Some even as simple as announcing " for the next 15 minutes shots 25 cents". Here is a link to the Silver Fox in Long Beach: http://silverfoxlongbeach.com Click on events. Why are the ownes in Pattaya not as creative??
  14. I have the bank pay my water and electric bill directly from my account. You just need to give the details of your account to the bank. The bill is then sent directly to the bank and it gets paid as soon as the bill is received. You still get an invoice sent to your house so you know how much you owed. Of course funds must be available in your account. One caution. Don't just assume they took out the correct amount. Much of this process is still done manually I think.
  15. My concern is that pedophiles is beginning to be reported as "gay". It is beyond reason to not hear of people having sex with under legal age girls. Statistics show that most pedophiles and other sex deviance is heterosexual. Also male "victims" are usually with females, yet it seems only male male is reported. Is this because Pattaya is statistical different or that the feeling about gays is different?
  16. Next to the Eldorado Guesthouse and across from Topman in Sunee Plaza.... Oud will be opening his new "Oud's Cafe and Bar". June 1 will be a soft opening and June 15 will be the Grand opening.
  17. I am curious if these changes also mean that a new partnership or ownership has taken place for Cafe Royal. I knew there was a booking relationship between the owners of Throb/Splash and the hotel part of Cafe Royal. But the owneship that included the Terrace Bar, Coffee shop and Cafe was separate I was told. After Robbie's death, all the ownership passed to Craig, I was told. It sounds like the project will be really nice. Will there be a complete closure of the facility? If so are any dates confirmed yet?
  18. There are 2 "Tony's" gyms on Third Road. A large one with swimming pool and tennis courts just south of Pattaya Tai on Third Road and another one North of Pattaya Tai. Membership is by the day,week,month,year.... At Avenue is a new California WOW. It is several stories tall and has different fitness classes Ambiance has a small work out room. I think "Sevin" gym is still in the Day-Night/Tuk Com area...not sure
  19. I happened to be leaving Sunee Plaza. I usually park my motorbike close to Sammy's (Eric). When I was leaving I noticed 2 police going into and up the steps at Marine Plaza. I understand that some of the guys that work at the bars have rooms on the top floors.
  20. It was a nice gathering. Many signed the memorial book which will be giveb to Robbie's family.
  21. Since you have been a customer, maybe if you contact Come-on place they would send some pictures.
  22. I live very close to that soi and have been wondering what that construction was for. It use to be a 99 baht buffet. It appears that the building is a "L" shape. Did they mention if they will have an on site parking lot?
  23. Do you know GB if this is a management spot or ownership/partnership? Has anything been said about a menu change? When I walk by Posiedon it doe not seem to be very busy. I wish Hugh the very best.
  24. For those that have not been here (Pattaya) in the rainy or low season...the rain we have had usually starts at 2pm and is over by 4pm. Then maybe another hard rain around 2am. I guess the rain god knows that Pattaya is a tourist destination and is trying to accomodate. With more and more expats moving to Pattaya some places seem almost as full. Cherry's and Ole had very large crowds last night. Not packed, but not empty either. Googies had a good crowd for breakfast when I was their around 10:30 am. All of theses are restaurants. Come-In bar in Sunee has had good crowds as well as Oscar's in Boyztown. Birdcage was very full for Kevin's and Mark's Birthday with vey handsome boys....though this was a promotional night. I agree with GayButton that this is a good time of year to be in Pattaya and want to point out that many places are operating at good capacity. You won't feel lonely...just have a little more room to spread out.
  25. Premier also means first in time, I think. Good luck to the group.
