  1. When I went in for my 90 day report they asked.
  2. For those that use the Pattaya by pass when coming or going to the airport, should know that they are making some changes to the flow of traffic. The by pass which consists of a 2 lane road on each side of the train tracks currently has traffic going both directions on each side. Beginning June 8 (I think the sign said) it will become one way on each side. The east side will travel south, and the west side will travel north. They are re painting signs and arrows on the road as well as warning signs, but now it is confusing since some places signs all ready say one way. It might have been a good idea to cover the signs up until the 8th to avoid some confusion.......but it is not that way. Be careful since no one pays any attention to the 4 way stop signs.
  3. I drove to Bangkok today to take another friend to Bumrungrad for Gall Bladder surgery. While there I stopped by Allen's room to get an update. I told him that several people were wishing him the best....which brought him to tears. He said he is so use to being around and knowing what is going on in town and now he feels a bit useless. I promised him what he gets well we will invite friends for drinks some where which cheered him up. He is very, very happy with his treatment at Bumrungrad. He actually is hopeful. They are being very through and have assigned different specialist for the different conditions and one doctor to coordinate things. I don't know any of the results from the tests yet but I will share what I learn. One thing I did not know until I helped him with the insurance is that Allen is 78 1/2 years old. His weight has come down from 120 kilo to 71 kilo (a bit too fast), but a weight he would like to have had long ago. There is no date for his release yet. The nurse said maybe June 8. I told Allen that is the day before Funny Boy's anniversary. He said, "Let's go" with a smile so his spirits are good.
  4. I have received some inquires about Allen Briggs AKA GayPattayan. Allen asked me to let people know that he is currently in Bumrungrad Hospital seeking treatment for Cancer which has returned. He decided to go to Bumrungrad when another local well known Pattaya hospital was giving him conflicting advice about his cancer. Allen currently is facing several medical problems at the same time. He wants people to know that he is not able to return emails or phone calls.
  5. USA may give Gays the right to The US Senate is debating the issue now. If the legislation passes, your Thai BF maybe able to get a green card. If you are a US citizen, write to your senators and representatives
  6. Great. Now you can eat TWO breakfasts every morning!! If you had a choice, which would you prefer if you only had one choice?
  7. To me it is disappointing that the police don't constantly patrol the area. There is no reason that police or (life guards) can't be posted on raised platforms (life guard towers) watching for those that are in need of help. The money would be better spent than on more CCTV equipment that keeps breaking. More people would gain employment and tourists and Thais would be better protected.
  8. Why not weigh them? Take a number of them and see how much 10 baht worth weighs. Then weigh the big can and divide. Give me a commission for the advice. How about paying one of the charities to count them for you? Give them 50% for doing so. Maybe take then to a bar and instead of putting 20 baht in a boys undies. Put 20 baht worth of satang. (Similar to what my Thai friend did in New York City. He had only dollar coins from the subway. A dancer came over and he put a dollar coin in his briefs!.....)
  9. Received a email from Travel Zoo which said there was a new flight search engine at Fly.com. I tried it and liked it because of all the different ways to filter the prices. If you want just want premium economy, it filters just those cabin types
  10. I enjoy the Gay Ting Tong site too. I particularly enjoy the you tube video links that are posted at times.

    atm cards

Gaybutton, I had been thinking of the Bangkok Bank option where I would have my pension deposited into Bangkok Bank, but how do you pay credit cards from US Bank? It is my understanding that the entire pension check needs to be deposited into Bangkok Bank.
  12. The sign says 8:30am but I have never been there that early. (In fact I have not been out of bed that early since retiring)
  13. A few months ago I had eaten at the restaurant that took the space that Googies use to be in. It was almost exactly the same menu including price that Googies had. The other day I drove by and saw a banner saying "New Season, New Menu, Lower prices, Same quality" so I stopped in. I noticed many changes. The place is air conditioned and now has free Wi-Fi, new tables and the bar has been moved to the side and the kitchen enclosed in glass. They still have tables outside and had indeed lowered the prices. (Maybe a first in Thailand) The menu still has breakfasts from around the world. The one I enjoy at Continental is the Swiss so had Mushroom's Swiss for comparison. They were exactly the same except Mushroom has added orange juice and has free coffee refills AND cheaper. The quality was good and service efficient. If you enjoy breakfast (served all day) you may wish to give it a try.
  14. I understand Thaiworthy's feelings about enjoying Thailand better than working or living in the USA where we still struggle with being accepted fully. When I retired I had no plans to go visit the USA. I have many more friends my own age here in Pattaya who share similar interests and are very interesting because they all have had different careers. I find that I learn a lot from them and those that I choose to know best have great sense of humors. I too prefer to live here than in the USA. If my Thai friend would ever decide to work and live in the USA, I would be happy to visit him. I have been in a similar position when visiting Thailand, where people would question my reason for going so often and also "hint" about the sex trade. If they ever mentioned the sex trade, I always replied "Yea, ain't it great!" If ever questioned about underage sex or molestation, I would turn it to how under reported it is in the USA. What I would never do is give anyone the power over me. It took me along time to learn that the only way anyone can have power over me is if I give it to them. Once I learned it though, my life really did change. It was not easy for me however to learn that. I don't want to be seen as "preaching". My life living in Thailand is good for me. I don't think I have ever been happier.
  15. I wonder how you came to your conclusion since you never have done it. Is it possible you are projecting your dislike for USA ? Many Thais have visited the US and it has not changed them at all. They still have all the values you describe. A few weeks in any country certainly will not change many many years of upbringing. Thousands have also started businesses and others have great jobs so they can continue to support their families. Much better than working in a bar and having to have sex to pay the bills. As to forcing someone to go on vacation?????? In my case my Thai friend brought the idea up himself after so much attention was given to President Obama's election. We visited Los Angles, Washington DC, New York City, New Orleans, Las Vegas, Grand Canyon, San Francisco, Palm Springs, Long Beach and West Hollywood. We have also visited Prague, Czech; Vietnam; China; Cambodia in previous years. All the trips have given him a good chance to experience other cultures. None has "replaced" his. Maybe I misunderstood your post. Sorry your life is not happy at this point. I hope this changes for you. But I doubt that not having a Thai visit the US or other country can not be the source that makes you happier.
  16. Now that Delta and NWA have merged, do you know the aircraft they fly? I wonder what is the legroom in economy?
  17. Driving around today after being gone for only 30 days, I thought it was mostly a ghost town compared to previous years. I ate at Continental as usual and they said business was way down. So don't stay away. We need you
  18. I believe it was pure luck. We prepared very well. Had a big box of documents to support our application....which they never looked at. They asked him about 3 questions, looked at 6 months of bank statements and then said the visa would be sent in the mail.
  19. Good point!!
  20. I missed that part about buying him a big bike. I asked him about it and he said he thought for sure you offered to do it so you would have someone to ride with now that he can visit the USA any time he wants for the next 10 years.....By the way....the dinner you bought for us at Caesar's Palace was was really nice!!
  21. You will mostly likely really enjoy the food. Rainwalker is amazing at finding these gems. He uses his iphone to find almost everything.
  22. It was great to be able to take my Thai friend to the USA for a quick 30 day tour. I want to thank the different board members we met with in different cities and the suggestions for things to do from other board members before we left. We had a chance to skim through Los Angeles, Washington DC, New York City, New Orleans, Las Vegas, Grand Canyon, San Francisco, Palm Springs and Long Beach, CA. The first few days I heard nothing but, "I want to go back to Thailand NOW", to finally hearing, "I hope they pass the bill so I can get a green card." Not that we BOTH weren't happy to get back to Pattaya. We both were worn out by seeing too much in too short a time. The thing that I had not counted on was how much food cost when you don't know where to go eat cheap. Asking at each hotel for good but cheap places to eat, just did not work. We seemed to average $60 a meal (not a day) because we did not know where to eat other than the tourist places we were told to eat at. Although my friend liked every city we went to and has a good story from each, the Grand Canyon and Long Beach, CA were his favorites. We met Rainwalker in Las Vegas and traveled to Grand Canyon with him. He on his BMW motorcycle and we in a Mercedes convertible driven by my long term Palm Springs friend. In Long Beach we stayed with Soi 10 Tom and friends. He is a fantastic guy and so are his friends........mostly Asian and very smart. We just happened to be there for the Long Beach Gay Pride. Tom and his friends took my friend to the Silver Fox (gay bar) where he had a great time..none PG rated. By the way June 3 a bill sponsored by Senator Leahy will be introduced which if passed would extend rights to some of your boy friends! First time ever! 23. There is no comparison between White Night and Cherry's. Cherry's food in my opinion is very good. I am not saying White Night's is not good. Just try them both and decide which one you prefer, if at all.
  24. Cherry's did move a little bit north (maybe 20 meters). If you look for the first entrance to Xzyte Disco, Cherry's is on the opposite side of the street. There is a small soi between Cherry's and Villa Mama which leads to a small parking lot. Actually it is still very busy and packed for the buffet. The main dinning room is in the back of the restaurant so even though it has an entrance on Third Road, you will not see the main dinning area from Third Street. (between South and Central Pattaya road but closer to Central Pattaya) PINGALICKER: My Thai friend and I will be visiting Las Vegas (his first trip). Maybe you would PM me and be so nice as to give us some eating tips (I looked at www.cheapovegas.com) Thanks
  25. Just on Wednesday
