Education is often the key, frankly, and many countries have a much more open mind about things than the good ol' U S of A. Cheers yet again to a Thai organization. Great ad!

It's a lovely place, but pricey. You more than likely got the upgrade because Bangkok was reported to have a hotel occupancy rate around 30% for January and probably not much more for February. There was space a-plenty. Great you were able to stay there... it's too expensive for my normal taste (and hotel budgeting habits), but very nice. The Dusit Thani [report and pictures here] would more than likely have called for some discretion when bringing a guest back, and possibly a stop at reception to add them to your room, as some places do require. How about a trip report?

Interesting take on this, ChristianPFC. At the risk of kicking a hornet's nest I'm going to say that becoming THAT sort of "jaded" might be a problem many would crawl a mile on rough asphalt for. If some (some, not most) of the folks I've heard whining while living there about the quality of guys bedded were back home they'd more than likely be getting far less intimacy of any sort - other than flying their kite solo. A "dud" there might well be a jealously guarded treasure in Cincinnati, Ohio - for example. I think it's human nature to begin taking things for granted, though, isn't it?

I'm glad you re-thought the idea and decided to stay in something a little nicer than a sauna cubicle. There's a lot of validity in what NIrishGuy said in post #7 above that many who have visited a sauna would agree with - regarding cleanliness and overall safety, I mean - and it just makes sense to stay somewhere a notch above, at the very least. Travelling on a shoestring isn't anything to look down on, but my days of backpacking and hostel life are decades behind me. I needed a couple of Advil after just thinking about your original plans. Be safe (and that includes being aware of your surroundings) and have a blast. There's so much to see and explore. Post about some of your experiences, if you can... hat's a good way to say "thank you" for helpful travel advice.

Thanks, MrBill - it looks like quite a worthwhile reference. Much appreciated.

The "search" feature will garner you a wealth of stories, chicolby. I've read (and heard) plenty, so they're out there. For many who are making their first trips to Thailand and venture into the Nightlife Area(s) just the initial exposure often seems a little wild. Is this your first trip? The thread title sounded like fun, but I guess I expected something different than "sexcapade" stories when I clicked on it. Not that I wouldn't read what people share here in reply to your request... so good luck! Please share your experiences during or after your upcoming trip - new voices are welcome. Be safe, and have fun.

One at least, but more than likely two. It's foolish to try to apply a label to the guys in general, but if you're respectful and remember they're people, not objects - doing a job that has good days and bad (with good clients and bad) you'll most often have a good experience. If you get a clunker, try another.

Eeks. I'd heard they existed in one form or another, too, but - although I can't read Thai - I'm pretty sure the image I posted had been doctored. Overall I expect the "they fleeced me" farang stories are pretty closely balanced out by the "they lied to me" native stories.
-
Sorry... after that comment I can't resist passing along the old joke: The young native comes to the elder of the village and asks "Tell me, oh wise one... how is it we young braves get our distinctive names?" The elder replies "The father stays with the mother in the tent until the child is born. If it's a boy child he immediately goes outside, and the first thing he sees is what the child is called. That's why you hear names like Running Bear and Mighty Oak. Why do you ask, Two Dogs Fucking?"

Found an old image I'd come across on the internet some years back. Before anyone gets their panties in a wad there's no disrespect intended, and I believe it's a nicely done faux photo. It made me laugh, so perhaps if you haven't already seen it you will, too. If someone actually wrote such a book it may well sell like hotcakes among the Rented Admirers who are adept at wrapping their customers around their little fingers...

Dongtan beach, yes. I'd say "good eye", but he's pretty difficult to miss!

One size doesn't fit all, but over the years I've learned there are several reasons/means for guys to be given nicknames, although girls have them, too - probably gained the same way. Most guys I've talked with said their father gave them their nickname, but it's often something that happens just as it does in other cultures, too: a tall, thin child gets called "Slim" by their friends, and it sticks, etc. If you get to know a club worker they may eventually learn they have a "stage" name, too... i.e. Trixie Delight, Madeline Kahn's name in the movie "Paper Moon". Who you meet as "Nit" in the club may be "Lek" to his family at home. My favorite has long been the friend who was small at birth and had a high, piercing cry. His father called him "Jeab", pronounced as a short word in a high tone. His father said he sounded like a baby chick!

Another good example of how if you ask a group of people the definition of a vernacular term you're going to get a wide variety of opinions. Not one of the best clips produced by Rice Roll Production, IMHO, but still enlightening, to a point. I didn't find it difficult to sit through, but I caught myself saying "wrong!" to the screen a few times. There's no link within my genealogy to Noah Webster, but many of the men interviewed didn't seem to agree what most know as the common - and more or less universal - usage of the term as I've heard it for decades (a non-Asian who is most often or exclusively attracted to Asians), so it might have been better to have titled it "What is your personal definition of Rice Queen?" Some seemed spot on, some sounded way off the mark. Perhaps others here would add what their definition would be. I'd vote for the one I mentioned above. It was interesting to see how widespread their interpretations were, but it would have been nice to know if they themselves considered themselves RQs, or they were just interpreting a term they'd heard. The implication was that they were Rice Queen. "Any man interested in Asian men... or women"? Hmmm. Straight males I know who have a penchant for Asian women probably wouldn't welcome the label "queen". The diversity of points that formed their definitions were interesting, too... and, again, all over the map. I'm a little surprised nobody mentioned some of the other labels, i.e. Potato Queen, Bean Queen, Curry Queen, Sticky Rice and the likes. As for me personally, this is the type I'd put in my letter to Santa:

In addition to the idea that fat below the belt can hide true length there may also be a little confusion as to diminished erect length as people age and flaccid appearances, too, I suppose. Some are lifelong "growers, not showers".
-
As someone who has been around long enough to see folks age and gain a "middle age spread" I'd say it's not that they have shorter dicks, it's that as the layer of fat in the supra-pubic area develops it gives the appearance that it's shorter. Guys I knew when I was in high school who had a fine seven inches at the time now show only four or five. The rest is undoubtedly still there, but less accessible. You'll see, as time goes on. Gravity will have its way, eventually.

Other than the more likely reasons (not knowing, but not wanting to say so and lose face - or simply wanting to be helpful whether they know or not) it might be due to a condition some of my friends here at home deal with: being "directionally challenged".

6 Days in Thailand and Low Budget: What to do and where to go?
baobao replied to TotallyOz's topic in Gay Thailand
Straight guys can also enjoy cabaret shows (such as Tiffany or the new arena venues in Pattaya) but there's also Calypso and another in Bangkok. If - and let's emphasize the IF - conditions allow and they feel safe going there Calypso's on the level below the lobby of the Asia Hotel. You'd take the BTS to Ratchathewi and exit the station directly into the hotel. Two showtimes each evening, and the "women" can be beautiful; something I'm not aroused by but can appreciate. I ran a bunch of images I'd taken there for my brother who thought they were stunning women. It was nice revealing none of them were women. His surprised response was "No SHIT?". At the risk of flogging the blog (not to be confused with flogging the log, a degree I earned in my early teens) there are a couple of posts about Calypso available by clicking here and here. -
Trip report - Chiang Mai - 29 Dec - in progress
baobao replied to bkkmfj2648's topic in Gay Thailand
Good reading, bkkmfj2648 - thanks for posting it! -
Occasionally there's an original report or informative post from a member that doesn't seem out of place when copied/pasted onto multiple sites, but - as a friend gently pointed out to me some years back - as a regular habit it can be a bit much. Different forums and sites often have a different crowd, tone and slant, so one post doesn't fit all, so to speak. Christian's stories have been entertaining (I tend to read them more often than not) and it's nice he's gathered them into one spot where he can stretch them out as much as he wants.

I don't want to make this newbie feel unwelcome, but perhaps this is a post that would get more attention on CFS*? It seems odd a person would post a "selfie" such as this themselves, but if the mods are OK with it, so be it. Frankly, I'd wager a small amount that it's the notorious old Brandon from SGT. Now he was a piece of work. . . * CFS is Cruising For Sex

Glad to hear they're still doing well. Haven't had dinner at Chili Culture, but I've enjoyed a few leisurely lunches there. Interesting report, too - thanks! By the way, if you walk down past Hero to the end of the street there's an entryway to the sidewalk along the canal. Since you seem to be one who enjoys bits of everyday life and people there I'd suggest a stroll along there some afternoon.

Is there a member of the forum who has visited Burma since Rogie's fine post who is willing to share information or travel contacts? Info on a travel agent in Bangkok who speaks English and Thai and could help book something would be a big help. All I've ever noted was Purple Dragon. I understand they're good, but there must be others. A friend that will come to Thailand with me next trip wants to strike out on his own like he did last year (he went to Cambodia for a week) and although he's doing some research on his own he's asking me for ideas. Although he's not gay himself he's gay-friendly and looking for a dependable way to get around with a guide to see some of the basic spots (He's thinking of Bangon and Yangon for a start) to see if he wants to plan a longer trip there. If anyone can make suggestions, I'd appreciate it. Via PM is fine with me. Thanks!

Coffee Society may not have the polished ambiance of, say, a Starbucks - but I'd rather patronize them more often than I would an 800 pound gorilla like SBs. I readily agree that's just a personal preference.though. I've always found Coffee Society a nice spot for casual people watching. A story about a couple (and their PDAs) above the place at the Sala Daeng BTS station is here: http://khunbaobao.blogspot.com/2013/04/hello-young-lovers-pdf-at-bts.html I hadn't noticed they were any more expensive than other shops, but I may have missed that.
