I was explicitly referring to non-cmmericial gay men. These are often professionals or have good paying jobs who simply want to have sex or a good time and would feel insulted if you suggested "a tip". I'm not talking about the "working" who doesn't consider himself a money-boy either. I have older farang friends who now never go to a gay bar in search of companionship. They live in Bangkok and often their friend of the evening pulls up in a late model BMW or Mercedes. I doubt this type of lifestyle is an option for a farang living in Pattaya. And there is a difference between the Tarntawan and the Malaysia (or Suriwongse) in many peoples eyes. I have never seen free-lancers loitering in the lobby or cafe at either the Tarntawan or Pinnacle. I would have personally no problem staying at the Malaysia but I just prefer the Pinnacle location better.
-
I'm glad they changed their policy on the lobby safes, 24 hour access just like the Tarntawan. I think you missed my point. Not every gay Thai man is a money boy looking for a sugar daddy. I know many older farangs that hook-up with gay Thai men via the InterNet. These guys are not looking for money and wouldn't be caught dead in a sex tourist hotel.

"The Pinnacle has both room safes and lobby safes. The Malaysia has only lobby safes. My room, at least, did not have a safe. Use of the lobby safe is free, but make sure to ask them what times access to your lobby safe is available. I can't recall whether it was the Malaysia, but I do recall reading something recently about someone having a real problem accessing his lobby safe during certain hours." I know of friends who have missed their early morning departure flight to America because they could not access their passports from the lobby safe until the daytime desk clerk arrived in the morning. You must plan ahead and don't forget. The Malaysia is clean and cheap but it has several negatives for me. It is a long walk from the Lumpini subway station, especially in the rain. You can experience unanticipated traffic delays using taxis as Soi Ngam Duplii can be very congested. The Malaysia (and Suriwongse) are well known hang-outs of money boys. I've known farangs with non-money boy bf's who will not stay there for that reason. I've heard of farangs trying to hook-up with just regular gay Thai guys (InterNet dating) but were dumped when it was found they were staying at the Malaysia/Suriwongse.

No hard feelings. There was simply later news than you posted and didn't want some to get wrong impression that the "Supreme Court" had ruled adversly against the City of Pattaya. The final ruling is still to come from the Rayong Court. I have friends who live in many of the VT projects (VT5, VT2, etc.) and others along the beach. I personally (and realize I might be in the minority) think VT5 was a nice addition. I remember coming to Dongtan beach in 1998 and quite frankly it was nothing to write home about. People (both Thai and tourists) used the old fence where VT5 is now as a public bathroom. There have been frustrating hipcups along the way but the "yellow brick road", newly planted palms, street and ocean lighting, the Amari Hotel, AND VT5 have all been nice additions and have added value to ALL who live in the area. Walking at night from the Rabbit Resort to the 7-11 can now be a pleasant experience. I hope you did well on your VT5 sale.

This is old news so I wouldn't get too exited just yet. On August 8, the Rayong Court did not give a final ruling and the stopVT7 group I am told was miffed. Since then the Court has ordered the survey be done using the 100 meter measurement (hint, hint) from the MSL (mean seal level) and not the 200 meter mark that the stopVT7 group requested. StopVT7 filed another appeal. Everyone now waits for the final ruling. I thought you owned in VT5? If Court rules against the City of Pattaya and VT7, all buildings greater than 14 meters in violation of the 200 meter rule and built within last 5 years could be sued and ordered torn down. That would be VT3, or VT5 for example. It would seem you have a vested interest that the Court rules in favor of the Pattaya City and VT7.

Quoting from the PGReport, "Villa Rouge Nightclub, formerly Kaos A Go Go, opened on 12 September in two of the three shophouses previously operated by Kaos. The popular show continues to be held at 22:00."
-
Kaos closed and has re-opened under a new name after remodeling. Same format, same shows, same staff.
-
Why do you have a feeling it will be no smolking? I would think private cubicles would encourage smoking. Looking forward to your next report.

You should be aware that the weather s***s this time of year. There's a good reason Phuket has it's high season and the weather is one of them. http://www.phuket-beaches.com/phuket-weather.html

What makes you think his brother will be different or American foreign policy will change and relations will be normalized?

My most recent experience with hotels is that details of both registrants is required (e.g. passports or Thai ID's). Trying to create a fictious "guest" may be a problem.

Well, as of last week they were still taking deposits for those to wanted to be assured of a unit. They were also letting those with existing contracts suspend payments until the Administrative Court makes it's ruling. View Talay filed a hardship appeal recently to remove the temporary construction injunction. I was told a decision on that appeal is imminent.

Y2K opened tonight. Many of the staff and boyz from Kaos can now be found here. The bar now has a center stage with seating around the perimeter.
-
Yes, Duc's is closed and Threezone is open. BTW, Kaos was packed tonight for the show and with the most number of boyz I've ever seen in this bar. I've been told Y2K is closed for remodeling and will reopen shortly so expect a format change since it has been purchasd by the Kaos owners.

I have noticed I no longer have the ability to open thumbnail pics of other members profiles. Now that sucks. If they were "adult" in content then I could understand it.

If true, a big mistake if they want to help justify their price structure. Bob

I visited their Website but could not tell if they installed a lift. Do they have a lift?

"Unfortunately, the U.S., the home country for many of the pharmaceutical industry companies, is trying to defend the rights of the companies rather than the rights of the Thai government and the Thai people. --G.P." The U.S. Government would be reneging on it's responsbility if it did not go to bat and defend the interests of a tax paying U.S pharmecutical company or industry. No surprises here. Personally, I wish these companies would defend their world-wide patents by simply providing these drugs at their cost or at a small mark-up. It would certainly be good PR for them and put them on the moral high ground.
-
"Standing next to Thailand’s health minister, Mr. Clinton also forcefully endorsed recent decisions by Thailand and Brazil to break patents held by American pharmaceutical companies that are charging prices Mr. Clinton described as exorbitant, but that drug company officials said were reasonable. “No company will live or die because of high price premiums for AIDS drugs in middle-income countries, but patients may,” he said." ....trust us he said it. It was on American TV.

I thought the Treaty of Amity with Thailand "expired" on January 1, 2005 because of conflicts with the WTO (Wordld Trade Organization) rules about most favored nations. Companies registered before this date were grandfathered. I'm interested too because I am an American.

Your suggestion has not gone unnoticed as there are many ladyboy bars in Pattaya and Bangkok. Almost every ladyboy I've talked to in gay bars have pointed to their boyfriends on stage or mentioned they were working in another bar. Perhaps the ladyboys are there for "eyecandy" for the "straight" boys.
-
....me too, and is her first name Hyacinth?
-
Besides Classic as others have mentioned there is group of bars around the corner from the Tawan; Solid Boys, Nature, Super A, X-Boom and maybe a few others. Smaller bars, cheaper drinks, and some have a certain sleaze factor.

I've stayed at both the Rendevous and Siam Palm over the years. The Rendevous is right where the action is (with all the pluses and minuses): http://www.boontarika.com/ My preferenece is the Siam Palm, about a 10 minute to the "gay" beach and 10-15 minutes to the Paradise complex.
