  1. Here is a map Gaybutton did almost a year ago. Be interested on any updates. Also wonder if anyone has a Map from the Glory Days of Kaos etc. http://www.gaybuttonthai.com/viewtopic.php?t=7793
  2. Wishful thinking. It's the old adage, what comes first the chicken or the egg. If they advertised and bused a bunch of Chinese to Sunee ,word would immediately get out that the trip was worthless. BT and associated Bars may not be LasVegas but the quality of the street lighting and at least a few Bars that have kept up appearances are far superior to anything that Sunee now offers . For most their first visit would be their last . And no one is going to spend a lot of money opening Bars that could compete with Boyz without the knowledge that customers would come. What is left of Sunee survives because of Ex-Pats which continue to dwindle. They spend time there because of the cheap drink prices which is not a criticism but just a fact. They reside in Pattaya and cannot go out every night and especially not at BT prices vs. Sunee. Beer Bars kept Sunee going for awhile because bribes to police were small or non existent and thus prices were low .They always had some cute boys but naturally dressed, but now many of those customers have moved to Jomtien for the same reasons. It also did not help that for years any new prospective owners had to negotiate with Ms Sunee which was always long and painful or so I am told. BKK was able to take advantage of the Chinese because naturally there are more planes landing at Swampy and they want the big city. Soi Twilight always had Bars with shows and a certain vibrance for new visitors . Soi Twilight would be out of business if not for the Chinese and other wealthy Asian countries. Anyone who has ever talked to the German Manager of Dream Boys knows that he will tell anyone that the Chinese saved that business and the rest of the street. But the Bars already existed so there was not much that needed to be done except what they had always done.
  3. You are right! One can only hope! Just for historical data , I can remember 4 Bars in that location and they all failed . Good Luck to the owner who invested his money!!
  4. If I knew how to do a poll (somebody help) I would ask for the time frame to expect drink prices return to normal.
  5. Not for me. Some of my best experiences all over the world is being able to talk to locals and see how they see the world as well as my country. Of course since I now almost exclusively use Airbnb , it is just a fact you either meet the owner or the manager of the property. They are a wealth of knowledge that you may not find on trip advisor or tourism books. I have a tin ear for learning languages and thus other then basics, I depend on finding residents that speak at least some English. Luckily I find that very easy in most of the world.
  6. I know that may be the rule but it is not enforced. First time I tried to open an account they told me no at Kasikorn. I walked 2 blocks to another branch and had no problem.
  7. It is interesting that there does seem to me to be more negative comments about Saigon then Hanoi. I have not been to Saigon and my research prior to my first trip led me to believe Hanoi was smaller and more friendly. I have never changed my mind and will continue to visit Hanoi and have no interest in Saigon. I suppose I sound like some gay visitors to BKK that say they have no interest in Pattaya. Then they visit and it becomes a normal visit on their trips . Food for thought?
  8. Not sure where you are from but temps in the 70's F are not cold where I come from. In fact it is delightful and far better then then the 90's in Thailand . But of course if you are from Florida or the like, then you have different temps that you might find cold if you are from Boston.
  9. Although limited experience in Japan I would agree. My favorite story took place in Kyoto. I had some wrappers that I was looking to put in the trash and could find no trash cans on the streets etc. I finally asked someone and they informed me they considered that the individual was responsible for trash, thus they put in their pockets and wait until they return home. No wonder the streets are pristine!
  10. Have loved Kasikorn for 10 years .One or two times I had to make a call from the USA the employees spoke almost perfect english and it was easy to fix something. Rest of the time their online banking site is easy to navigate.
  11. Since you are a known member, I have to believe everything you wrote. BUT I am unable to come up with an explanation for how many other members, both love and have had great experiences in Hanoi. My first trip I stayed at a Boutique Hotel in the center for $40US that rivaled most of the 5 star hotels I have stayed in and they picked me up at the airport in a beautiful SUV for $5. Breakfast included was fabulous. People at the desk fabulous for telling me where to go and what to be careful of. Crazy crossing the road is about the only complaint I have of Hanoi. In the cool season the outdoor cafes on the streets surrounded by trees are a delight. I am seriously considering at least a months stay the next time in an Airbnb apartment but only in cool season.
  12. Well we already have one member who says no comparison between Saigon and Hanoi. Be interesting to see if A447a experiences are in both cities. I have already mentioned I think Hanoi is a delightful city and other then being careful which taxis you use I had no problems and plenty of Sexy Bottom Boys.
  13. Try reading his post before you castigate me. . (Just like the many scams that are running in Thailand, a small one-time gain for one person, but a huge loss for the entire country.) Not the first time he has said that and my response just pointed that out and only you could consider that hostile. Not the first time he referred to Thailand as the Land of Scams. I don't think it is and it is perfectly reasonable for me to ask why he keeps returning to such a place?
  14. Fine as long as it is their own population! When did you get lost and ride the Skytrain instead of walk?
  15. The relevance is simple. If you can't do it in the country you reside in why would you think you can pollute the surroundings of others in a country you are visiting which by the way it is also illegal!
  16. There we go again. Thailand the Land of Scams. You have to wonder why anyone visits the country and especially why anyone would constantly keep coming back??
  17. Still looking for comments on members home countries on smoking in Bars.
  18. Impossible to have a discussion with someone who is ignorant on the subject. Let me know how many Bars you looked at that were for sale.
  19. Sorry don't agree. Many countries have successfully restricted smoking in public places and smokers learned to live with it. Just like MADD successfully reduced drunks from driving and thus the number of people killed by drunk drivers. Just because Thailand may be late coming to the party especially in regards to enforcement is no reason not to hope for the success of a certain law. I know of a number of members here who will not go to certain bars because they allow smokers to pollute the environment . Those bar owners likely have no idea that there are customers who don't come inside because of smoking. Do you really think anyone does not go into a bar because it refuses to allow smoking. Of course not since most stays in a GoGo Bar are fairly short they can easily wait until they leave to light up. The Bar that restricts smoking I would guess loses no customers if they have cute boys. But I am sure bars who allow the pollution do lose customers because they know that Bar does not enforce the Law and thus they never enter. A number of members here certainly fit that description.
  20. It would be interesting to hear from those who light up in Bars about whether they are allowed to do that in their own country. Lived in Montreal for 6 years and there were screams when no smoking laws would be passed . I still remember every one of the strip bars crying that it would ruin their business. Guess what , it was enforced and it did not hurt their business one bit. Customers and dancers went outside which in winter meant they probably extended their lives somewhat because they did not want to freeze and thus they did not smoke at all. There are some countries where you are not even allowed to smoke outdoors except in designated areas. Sounds like a good idea to me!
  21. The point I think is that legally the Bar cannot allow it although there seems to be no enforcement. Customers who don't want to suffer the pollution of others have every right to ask that the law is enforced. They just need to be aware that Bars suffer no losses as far as fines. And most Bar owners don't realize that there are many who will not suffer this pollution and thus never come to their establishment.
  22. If you bothered to read what I posted you would see I said it had been quite some time since I had been there and it was not a favorite of mine which was why I asked what current prices were. If you think it is negative to comment on the sale of the bar and its price then so be it. My comments had only to do with the asking price of the Bar which since I know a little about the Bar Business and a little about Thailand , I feel I can comment on. Hopefully I'll save someone from making a terrible financial decision and buying a Bar in Sunee. With your expertise on the running of GoGo Bars in Sunee, Let me know the last time a bar was offered for sale where it ended well. It is the lowest initial asking .price I have ever seen a GoGo Bar offered for in Sunee and that is just the initial asking price. Well run Beer Bars have sold for more.
  23. Well actually you did add a post for whatever it was worth.
  24. Just one of many threads that have gone off topic. Not a Big Deal IMHO!
