  1. That number is 0.01% is ridiculous . First of all wearing as mask has nothing to do with you already having the virus but only to help you from contracting it or giving it to someone else. We have tested a minuscule % of the US population so nobody can be sure of the exact numbers and because of that you have to look to the scientists. https://www.dw.com/en/coronavirus-latest-officials-estimate-over-6-of-us-population-are-infected/a-53933626 Assuming this article is somewhat accurate and there are many others who think in the same area, that is 60 times your comparison of 0.01%. Plus people in general don't get cancer from smoke in a room. They get it by inhaling the carcinogens in those filthy cigarettes .
  2. And you'll never reply to anything that I write unless it fits your beliefs. So Stalemate I guess. Your original post was the sell off is not catastrophic which of course is dependent on what the rate was at the time of the exchange . Your posted graph could have been anywhere from 0-10%. I agree with you that if you fall somewhere in between 1-3% then it might night have any meaning to the overwhelming number of visitors exchanging money. In addition and even more important the amount you are exchanging in many ways is more important than the rate. If you are exchanging , say $500 , 3% is $15 not likely to break anybody . But if you are moving $30,000 , just imagine how much that costs you on that graph even at 3% and really significant at a 10% change. I was really not trying to pick a fight with you , but rather pointing out even 3% can be a lot of money for someone who is sending significant $ to Thailand. ( Just ask me)
  3. You are laughable! Courtesy??? Your the one who said my reading comprehension was bad that I had no talent or courtesy. All I said were your posted figures are wrong and they are . Depending where you had to make the exchange on that , it could have cost anywhere from 0% if the price had not changed and up to 10% in the possible range listed on the chart . Really simple that anyone should be able to understand. Also what seems like small change to ATM users vs. is seen completely differently if someone is transferring 10' s of thousands dollars .
  4. You could not be more wrong. I'm using your numbers from your posted graph . 33.08434 , 31.30969 and 29.69094. I don't know what kind of calculator you have but the first drop is 5% not 3 not 3.2 but 5%. The biggest drop is 10%. Figures don't lie. Not sure what kind of world you live but to some people ( admittedly not many) it is a concern if there currency i s worth 5% less for a trip and certainly 10% would be noticed by even more visitors depending on their own financial situation and probably the length of their trip. Since I send money on a regular basis to Thailand via TransferWise , it has been noticed by me. You are lucky if it makes no difference to you!
  5. Your math is not too good. It is a 5% drop not 3% and close to 10% at the lower ( 29.6904) for the USD -Thai Baht. I'm sure there are some people that might make a difference to them. Just saying?
  6. Have to agree with Z909. I stayed a few nights in Pattaya in Feb at View Talay 6. I have stayed there for years . At least 3 agencies in the building with probably 100's of apartments available for short term. When I looked on Airbnb there were many other buildings available for short term rentals although some said don't tell anyone associated with management. I spent much longer time in Bangkok and there were again all sorts of apartments on Airbnb available for short time . I choose instead to spend some Hilton Points and stayed at Hilton Sukhumvit . Breakfast, Happy Hour and a Suite for free always wins out against Airbnb at least in Bangkok. I have however used Airbnb in Bangkok with no problems and know many people that have done the same. Luckily ( or not) I got out just before the shutdown. European Union is not accepting anyone from the USA so I would be surprised if Thailand allows anyone in from the USA for quite some time , maybe until there is a new President!
  7. Like most things in Thailand , it really makes no difference what the supposed law is. I had multiple choices available in Pattaya and Bangkok on Airbnb in January and Feb. In Pattaya I stayed in View Talay 6 and there were many many choices of apartments for short time as there were at many other high rise buildings!
  8. I think it might be more likely that you are just a nice guy who takes people the way they are instead of the way someone might want them to be. Sorry couldn't resist and now I will disappear once again.
  9. Not only do I remember it but I also stayed in a building high up where you felt the airplane was close enough to touch. For many years it was listed as one of the most dangerous airports by ALPA.
  10. a447a, Glad you liked Silom Dental. I have recommended them a number of times. Always been pleased with the time they took and the finished product. And of course so easy to get there.
  11. Could not resist . Stumbled across this pet policy by SW which is the 3rd largest airline in the US and probably #1 in Domestic flights. They love pets. http://millionmilesecrets.com/2017/04/19/southwest-pet-policy/?utm_source=feedblitz&utm_medium=FeedBlitzRss&utm_campaign=millionmilesecrets
  12. Ok stop referring to them as police. They were not, just security personnel for the airport. They had been told not to wear police jacket because they were not police. As far the Captain , Good chance he was some 26 year old kid trying to build hours and get a job with Big Airline. Which of course is the whole problem , everyone from gate personnel, to flight attendants , to Pilots did not have the experience or training to make sure this sort of thing did not happen. True Dr may not have taken a higher offer but I doubt an offer of the maximum $1350 would not have found a taker.
  13. Never been on a train in Asia. Europe and USA pretty sure when I bought the tickets it said non refundable but it has been a long time.
  14. Bottom line is who cares about SGT. I don't and I don't care what happened there . If he breaks the rules here I am sure he will be shown the door. If he proves himself to be a Troll he will quickly run out of members who reply to him (I Hope). Very few get banned here but it has happened in the past and I am sure it will again if need be. Let's see how he proceeds and not bring up anything that he did or did not do on another Board>
  15. What this shows , it is beneficial to know what you are entitled to so you can demand they provide. Pretty sure you are entitled to nothing for a 2 hour delay. In the US and Europe pretty sure they have to provide lodging and meals as well as monetary compensation for a 1 day delay. Then the monetary compensations are spelled out for anyone who cares to familiarize themselves with the rules. Of course having status with an airline because of frequent travel is the best protection of getting bumped and thus probably why I have never been bumped.
  16. Also let me know the last time you got a movie ticket, concert ticket, sports ticket, play ticket refunded. Been a long time since I took a train , pretty sure non-refundable . Oh and by the way have been on lots of trains and buses where you had to stand because there were no seats . Not a pleasant way to travel. When is the last time you went to pick up your rental car and they did not have the car you booked. I don't own any airline stock but I have seen fares continue to fall to what I would consider some times ridiculously low prices. I know Vinapu has gotten some fares from Canada to BKK that are almost unbelievable 5 years ago. Those fares exist because of dynamic pricing and I doubt anyone here wants to see that change.
  17. Christian, You do not grasp the fact that millions upon millions pf passengers are on flights because they were overbooked and the computer programs correctly predicted the need to allow that over booking . Do away with those programs and raise the fares a few % points would result in millions of empty seats far exceeding the minuscule number of passengers who face either voluntary or forced compensation. Not only would the fares have to be raised but there would be no reason to cancel a flight and receive a refund. Thus buy a ticket 6 months in advance and your money is gone . No way to change or get a refund. Just imagine how popular that would be? I wonder how many times you have been bumped. I would guess never if you were honest. Under your suggestions there would be no reason to look for the lowest fares because they would all be the same . Thus poor Vinapu and many others who search for the lowest fare would no longer have any reason to be elated when they found that bargain fare . Just wait until the day before you want to go and and see what flight has an empty seat that corresponds with your time table. Of course there will be millions of empty seats and millions of passengers with worthless tickets because life intervened and they cannot make their flight and their money is gone. Sound like a plan?
  18. Even though I have you on ignore, every one in awhile I click on you to see if you manage to post anything useful. As usual you did not. Unlike you I posted the link to point out what I am saying and your sentence about paying a passenger $10,000 in compensation is so idiotic , I have no idea how to reply. Won't be clicking on you any longer!! Some people like you fail to understand that because of the sophisticated programs the Airlines have and their ability to overbook flights, they are able to plan their finances based on maximum capacity being utilized. The small number of people who get involuntarily bumped is just part of the airline industry and acceptable in order to offer the low fares that they do.
  19. It must be one millionth of 1% who don't pick up the phone before the 2 hour deadline.
  20. Christian the way you look at things is colored by the fact that you are younger then most on this Board and speak fluent Thai which again I would guess the overwhelming number of readers on this Board do not. You are also a constant over many years a long term visitor. Most people on this Board who ask for information are not long term residents and need the kind of information that 2 week holiday visitors want. They are not going to go on the streets and strike up a conversation with a cute boy in Thai and then ask him if they can have sex. You know as well I do that you might find a boy online in BKK that is living close to your location and willing to come to you. But BKK is so enormous and traffic so bad that boys don't want t spend an hour getting to your room for a small amount. Strangely most boys on the apps in BKK dislike the skytrain and would rather take a taxi or there is no station close to their home. Easy to spend 3-400 baht getting to and from a customers room. Yes Pattaya is much easier to use the apps although even there I have had many boys tell me from Jomtien they did not know where Central Festival was. They want me to come to Jomtien to get them. No chance. But in BKK it would be a waste of time and elimination of 90% of available boys if anyone thought they could pay 1200 baht and that includes GoGoBars , PlanetRomeo and other Apps.
  21. Sorry Christian but when you go outside Thailand Topics you don't know what you are talking about. Easy Jet for 1 example has Flexi Fare which allows you constant changes of your flights with no penalty. A little bit like Business Class Fares on other airlines. You have no idea how many of those customers do not show up for their flights. But the computer programs do their best to predict what will happen and EasyJet oversells their seats so their flight will be full. Most airlines do this because there are all sorts of fares that can be changed at the last minute for small or no penalty. You can't run any business breaking even and even yet most experts will agree that an airline must fill at least 85% of their seats to break even. So yes if 20 people don't show up on a 150 seat airplane then that flight will lose money. Most passengers don't understand the dynamics of running an airline. Sometimes there have to be unsold seats because of fuel and weather constrictions that limit the number of seats. Sometimes certain routs have low passenger counts because they feed flights to other destinations or international destinations that are more profitable. The bottom line in the USA less then 1 passenger for every 10,000 gets bumped and 90 % of those take the voluntary compensation and so less then 1/10 of 1% of passengers are ever denied boarding. Lot of BS about nothing. Just 2 airlines out of the many I have flown I have over 3 million miles and have never been bumped. The way UA's feeder airline Republic handled this thing is horrendous and it allows millions of people to comment on something they know nothing about. https://www.rita.dot.gov/bts/sites/rita.dot.gov.bts/files/publications/national_transportation_statistics/html/table_01_64.html
  22. Easy , he had been a member for 30 minutes and then gave information that was just plain wrong. If he had given correct information then I would not care if he had been a member for 30 seconds. He does a disservice to anyone who is looking for information that can be relied upon and reads his post and thinks he knows what he is talking about when he does not.. And trying to compare it to average wage is even more ridiculous. The good escort in NYC now gets at least $300 for 1 hour which would be equal to $12,000 a week for a 40 hour week . I can assure you very few people make $12,000 a week in NYC. Comparisons of people who sell themselves for sex to someone working in the fields just is a unfair comparison.
  23. I have never had to go through more then 3 taxis on Suriwong to get the meter . But they have to be moving not parked and not raining . If it is raining i just negotiate down to 100 for what would be 60 anyways , so no big deal.
  24. Another expert I think. Been a member for 30 minutes and he is going to tell people here what they should pay for offs . First of all he is completely wrong in BKK , he will find few if any possibilities for offs in BKK . Pattaya he will have better luck. And since essentially he is talking about BKK since there are no metered taxis anywhere else.As fares taxis of the thousands of taxis I have taken in BKK only a very small % did not turn on the meter and just about all of them were on Silom or Suriwong at night and mostly in the rain. He might have limited luck on the apps in BKK if he finds someone both desperate or close to his location. Otherwise no chance.
