Not sure for others but as an American I was getting 42 baht to the $ in 2006 so 1000 baht costs me 20-25% more then it did in 2006 .How that translates into what 1000 baht buys for the average Thai in 2009 versus 2006 , I am not sure. But for argument's sake lets say the accepted tip had grown from 1000 baht to 1500 baht over those 3 years. That would mean the price would have almost doubled in 3 years. Would that effect the number of visitors and thus the income of the Boys. I think so.

to Fountainhall If you can find any recent information on tips in Chiang Mai then you are a better man then me. I am quite familiar with all the boards and have at times contributed to tip information. However Chiang Mai does not get a lot of posts . With the apparent resurgence the scene with Power Boys etc , I though I might give it a try. Just like I don't offer the bars in Pattaya 250 baht for their drinks because that is what I must pay in Bangkok, I would prefer not to overpay for the boys in Chiang Mai. I usually err on the high side but I would like to know what that is. Hopefully some recent visitors will have more insight. Thanks to PattayaMale for his comments.

I know this is an Up to You Question I am quite familiar with the expected tips in Pattaya and Bangkok which are quite different I do not have a good feel for the average tips in Chiang Mai for short time offs and massage. Thanks for any info

Since Jomtien area is good for you. I suggest www.asian-escapes.com Beautiful View Talay apartments and should be considerably under your budget and no extra charges.

Xboys will be the closest although not especially close. I find the Classic boys to be a little more fem and much smaller . That being said XBoys are certainly not Big Muscle guys and probably are the closest in size to Classic.

I have been in Bangkok since September 2 and will be leaving in 6 days. I have spent a lot of time on Soi Twilight and here are my observations. The last week it appears that high season is approaching because the number of boys has increased by at least 50% and more at some bars. I look for versatile boys who particularly like to Bottom and don't mind 3 ways. I have been to all the bars except Future Boys. X Size --- Early in my stay 40 boys on stage now double that. Unfortunately the look for the most part is not to my taste. Rough and older. Greater % are Tops only. Mamasans seem to know their boys and are not pushy. Classic- Maybe 30 boys, few more added recently. Boys are all on the smaller side . Probably mostly Gay and Versatile but for some reason did not take anyone this trip yet. Dream Boys and Boys Bangkok-- Same bar with same boys on 2 levels. At least 100 boys most nights. Lots of great bodies of all sizes. Unfortunately every boy I like is a Top. They have versatile or Bottom boys but a small percentage and certainly not the ones with the good bodies. Hot Male--- Maybe 30 -40 boys Same as X Size . Not much to look at IMO and mostly Top. Fresh Beach-- There early in the trip. Maybe 20 boys. I think they have added some lately . Always a few handsome boys but once again Tops. X Boys-- I know I sound like a broken record or part owner but X Boys just blows the competition away in my opinion. If you like athletic boys with 6 packs but not too big and versatile in the bedroom , then just go to XBoys. There are so many attractive boys with nice athletic bodies in there that I lose count some times. May 40- 50 boys now. The other thing that is nice are the Coyote dancers on the four corners of the stage which bring energy to the place as well as being sexy. I have never taken a boy from there who does not do exactly what he says he will do. If you don't ask before then your fault if you are disappointed. I would say less then 20% are strictly Tops. Many of the boys there are willing and eager to do 3 ways even if with their friends. Just pick the first boy and then ask who he likes to be with in a 3 way. I am sure you notice I have not mentioned the shows and that is because I don't go to them . I go to the bars to find a boy and take him home, not look at the same tired shows. I did however catch the last part of Dreamboys one night and was impressed with the presentation.

There is essentially no difference between the bars on Soi Twilight in their drink prices. Dreamboys sets the prices and the others follow. At most at times there may be a 10 baht difference which is about 4% not 20%. If a boy orders a beer in Soi Twilight he gets a beer, if he orders a drink he get 3 ounces of soda. At the girl bars if a girl orders a beer she gets a beer. Same Same as Soi Twilight. It is extremely easy to get phone numbers from boys and then do away with off fees , rip off drink prices etc. The shows are for tourists and Asians. It must work or nobody would have them. I hate them and will never go in if show is starting or about to start. But I appear to be in the Minority. To say that you can get similar boys in big cities in the USA for $40 is just plain ridiculous. It is a 1 in a million chance and then only from a new desperate immigrant who will quickly learn to charge $200 or more. Have things gotten more expensive in Thailand , you bet they have. But I can still stay in a 5 star Hotel in Bangkok for $100 most of the time. In the USA or Western Europe that will get you Motel 6. I can still get a pretty good Thai meal for the cost of a hot dog back home. I can get a massage and happy ending for between $30 and $50. Try that in USA, Western Europe etc. I can choose from 100's of boys to have sex with. Depending on the Bar and the amount of time, it will cost me $60 for short time and $75 for all night. Once you find boys you like that cost drops to $30- $50 when drinks and bar fines are eliminated. These are Bangkok prices . Go to Pattaya and on average those prices drop by 30-40% and Chiang Mai 40- 50%. By the way for the math challenged here $100 is 3400 baht not 2500 baht. Also most people do not stay home for their vacation. If you are on the East coast and fly to the west coast it will cost you $600. Fly to Europe from the East coast $700- $1000 depending on time of year. Fly to Thailand for $1100 and when you get there stay in similar grade Hotels for 30% of the prices in USA or Europe. Take a taxi in Bangkok for 20% of the cost back home and a Limo for 15% of the cost back home. Thailand works out way cheaper then a vacation in the USA or Europe and the boys are a huge bonus on top of that. The worst thing about Thailand is it takes 22 hours to get here. Other then that , let me know when you find a better place at a lesser price.

Interesting thread, even if the math is suspect. 3.5 million for Come in bar is only about $105,000 and Simple Simons at 3.9 million is only about $120,000 not $160,000. Just in case the math would make someone more interested eventhough I am sure the first thing anyone would do is figure out the price in $. Not trying to be a smart ass, just in case someone makes a cursory look , they might look further if the actual price was known after conversion.

[ GT I agree you should expect good service any business that you go to. Unfortunately hospitals are a little different and especially in their emergency rooms. It is impossible for the them to staff because unlike other businesses they have no way of knowing when they will be busy. This does of course not excuse a dirty room or staff that is not trained properly but your BF who I also adore (don't hurt me) did get seen and given medicine that apparently helped. In most big city hospitals in the USA, you would have waited at least 3 or 4 hours to see a doctor if you were lucky. And although I know you didn't see a specialist this time, the last time you went for your foot you saw a specialist in minutes. In the USA it would have taken you 3 weeks to get an appointment. Now as to price Bumrungrad is definitely not as expensive as Bangkok Pattaya. I have been to Bangkok Pattaaya, saw a GP , had blood tests and given medicines where the bill was 8000 baht . My friends bill 3 days ago seeing a speicalist, xrays, ultrasounds, blood work and urine test was 10,000 baht . No comparison. Bangkok Pattaya pushes pills. If you take their prescription to a local druggist, you will pay 40% less for the medicine. I did just that with my friends prescription from Bum. and I could have saved only 10- 15%. Bum"s prices are same or less for most procedures as BNH. That BNH and Bum are the most expensive Hospitals in Bangkok, there probably is no doubt. You have to pay for having the most specialists on staff and the newest equipment. If you have a hangnail go to a public hospital. If you have a heart attack, stents or brain surgery or anything else serious, I would go to Bum. in a second. It doesn't take long surfing the various Thai message boards to come up with case after case where serious problems were either mis -diagnosed or badly treated at Bangkok Pattaya. Pay for the ambulance and head to Bum or BNH if you have more then the common cold etc.

I'm the friend GT had lunch with and if this was a restaurant review I would laugh because GT has terrible taste in restaurants. However this was serious and I know how GT cares for his BF and I can only imagine how mad I would be if someone special to me was treated that way. However I fall in line with most of the other posters of having nothing but the best of care at Bumrungrad. In fact today my friend went there and we first went to the emergency room and explained the problem and they just said go to the 16th floor and see a specialist (urologist). I had done some research on urologists in the past and asked if Dr Chodchoy was available. It was 825am and he was scheduled to arrive at 9am and had many appointments. We waited and were taken first at 902 am. I am sure there were people with appointments who had to wait but this is the proper way to handle things. Doctor was worried about kidney stones and ordered xrays, ultrasounds, urine, tests and blood work. They offered him a semi private room to rest in while waiting for results from tests. They said about an hour and it eneded up being 1 hour and 45 minutes. The problem was not as serious as first thought and some oral medication and pain pills were prescribed. Dr. advised us to monitor temp. and if he got a fever then return to Hospital. Dr Chodchoy was just as professional as I thought he would be and was very thorough before and after examination. His charge was 600 baht , ridiculously low by any standard for a Dr. of his repute. The total bill was a little over 10,000 baht which by today's standards ,I consider quite reasonable. Last year I went to the emergency room in the USA had an ultra sound , xray , saw a GP and got no medication, The bill was $1480 or about 50,000 baht. I'll take Bumrungrad any day.

I felt the same way last year after spending 90% of my time in Pattaya, the last 10 years. It all boils down to preferences. I have spent almost all my time the last year (4 trips totaling 4 months) in Bangkok. I always referred to Pattaya as Disneyland of Sex. I just got tired of it. Bangkok is a real city with real people 99% of who make a living having nothing to do with sex. The city does not exist because of sex . There are museums and Galleries and Parks etc befitting a major city. For the most part none of this exists in Pattaya. Sex wise the massage parlors in Bangkok are so far superior to Pattaya that they are not even worth comparing. Soi Twilight is very expensive but the boys there are willing to see you outside of the bars and you can mitigate those costs. Soi 4 with Balcony etc are priced more like the outdoor bars in Pattaya. The opportunity to meet someone outside the sex trade is much better in BKK although naturally it requires some work. As Mr Gaythailand will attest there are beautiful boys everywhere and most of them have no idea about Soi Twilight or such places. Restaurants at the middle to high end are far superior to anything in Pattaya where most are geared to tourists. In BKK the restaurants rely on repeat customers most of whom are Thai. They don't make it if they do a poor job. Just as an example 2 of the 3 best Italian restaurants I have ever eaten at are in Bangkok. I don't ride motorbikes so I find the transportation in BKK far superior to Pattaya. Air conditioned taxis at reasonable rates or the Skytrain or subway instead of dirty smelly baht buses which are loaded with pickpockets. You have to learn when not to take a taxi because of traffic jams but these times and areas are easily learned. Bangkok also has multiple serviced apartments that are far superior to anything Pattaya has to offer. These are great for 7 day or longer stays and you can find all price ranges. The low end places put Mosaik to shame. Will I visit Pattaya? Absolutely!!!! They have some fun bars and if you want the younger boys (18+), they are more readily available. The beach is a nice diversion but for me had gotten to be same same every day. I think you will enjoy spending more time in Bangkok and if not you can always return to the Disneyland of Sex.

In the great scheme of things I don't see this lie as that important. First in your heart you knew what would happen to the bike when you gave it to him. What's that saying about not knowing history, you are doomed to make the same mistakes. There were completely safe people you could have given the bike Also I find it doubtful that in a 6 year relationship,you have not lied to him. Let's remember omission can be lying also. He had a bike and he refitted it because it was there and you were not. Then when he realized that you were back he knew someday you might ask for the bike and was scared and embarassed about what he did. How to tell you was not an option. Too much risk. All relationships have lies. No matter how close people are they have secrets or things they don't tell for fear of hurting their partner. If the lying becomes endemic then there is a problem.

You could not be more right. The mamasans are the biggest liars in BKK and that is saying something. The boys are also the biggest liars. I think they have a contest for who can do the least and demand the most money. They will never get another baht from me. I agree they usually have some good looking boys and the show can be good. So if you just like to look then by all means go there. However if you like to take a boy home spend your money somewhere else!!!
