It depends, sometimes they will own the land and the buildings. Other times they will own the land and lease the use of the land for a certain period (like 70 years), either way they can influence what goes on.

Your choice of words are so appropriate LOL. Fiefdoms is an apt choice of word, because SE Asia sometimes function like a feudalistic state. I find that a useful way to think about the militaries in SE Asia, are that they are functioning as states within a state. They are designed to ensure their own survival and to ensure that they can eat even if the people starve. The Thai army is sophisticated and can steer politics in their wished direction without being too crude. The Myanmar military is at the commanding heights of the Myanmar economy but lacks the sophistication of their Thai counterpart.

I’m glad you liked it, it’s a great place to just chill. The adjacent royal cemetery is interesting too. All the wives of the kings are buried there from the time the Buddhist kings had four wives, each representing a cardinal direction (north, south, east and west).

I have seen higher prices. It’s usually good looking guys that has put in a fair bit of aesthetic labour into their bodies and that’s marketing themselves toward a richer, foreign clientele. I have seen boys from Zeus massage also offering their services at certain sites at double the price at what you would pay if you booked through Zeus massage (formerly Apollo massage).

Maybe ignore 9-teen altogether and go to Relax massage instead at Soi 6.

The YouTube video was a refreshing take on the subject that looked at the issue from a non-activist angle.

The guy is in Glam’s too, and that is an H place. So he must have expanded his service, but we won’t know unless some people have made a recent review.
-
Ohm-kung reviewed him too on Line and X, but you would never know that through google 😂 Looking forward to your review.

This is a comment to Macaroni’s blogpost on google reviews here: I have also noticed this practice at Ssense and it goes deep. The masseurs that you find in the Line lineup of Ssense that you use if you make a reservation is ranked according to the number of reviews they got. A prize is handled out every month to the top 3. So you see now that Knott got first place in August, that is he was mentioned most the number of times in google reviews, whereas TongTong came in second place the number of times he was mentioned in google reviews in August and he is listed just after Knott in Line. Presumably the rankings will change in October to reflect the number of mentions in September. A masseur like Chok who has been with the parlour for a long time and has presumably amassed some experience comes towards the end of listings. The ranking is not based on masseur skill. These google reviews do influence the choice of masseur of at least one poster on this forum who explicitly changed his booking from Chok as he simply wasn’t mentioned too often in google reviews. I also see that repeat customers are simply updating their old reviews with new dates if they have been treated by another masseur or the same masseur on multiple occasions. They simply add dates to the text. I can’t say I like this management practice. However I generally don’t rely on google reviews as they wouldn’t mention the aspects that I’m interested in. There are special massage reviewers who publish in closed Line chat groups which provides you with a review of the “extras” as well as the type of shop it is.

GLAM's - 30 Aug 2024 review of new massage shop in BKK
Raposa replied to bkkmfj2648's topic in Gay Thailand
X accounts: @Auroramassage89 @glamspabkk @wabisabi_MS @ganymedespa @manboy2024 (phetboyspa) take note that there is a difference between those massage places that cater to a mostly local clientele and those that keep up an air of respectability. The line account and X account of Phetboy leave very little guesswork. You would do well to install Line and use it for bookings and to see the boy lineup of the day for the various shops that prefers prebooking through Line instead of walk-ins. -
You can visit Wat Ratchabophit, and adjacent royal cemetery. Unlike some of the other famous temples, you avoid the crowd of tourists here and can explore in peace. Back streets of Chinatown are fun too.
