Here's how to outsmart jet lag
Travelingguy replied to reader's topic in Health, Nutrition and Fitness
I am going to be using the Timeshifter app for a trip to Europe in August. I did a fair amount of research on this and I have high hopes for this. The reviews are quite positive if you follow their instructions. The idea of being able to arrive in Europe or Asia and come off the plane without jet lag is extremely enticing to me. -
Six people found dead after ‘poisoning’ in luxury Bangkok hotel
Travelingguy replied to hojacat's topic in The Beer Bar
The AP is reporting that the victims were foaming at the mouth. If true, that would make carbon monoxide less likely. Poisonings that would lead to foaming of the mouth raise the question of murder being the manner of death. -

Usually this sort of thing is due to carbon monoxide. Usually due to heating which would not be used in Thailand. But cooking and water heating might use natural gas or propane. -
Adult film star Austin Wolf arrested on child pornography charges
Travelingguy replied to hojacat's topic in The Beer Bar
Framing someone for this type of crime would be very dangerous, because one would have to have possession of the material to plant it or transmit it. The risk of having it backfire in their face is high enough that I think that very few people would be foolish enough to try to pull that off. -
Adult film star Austin Wolf arrested on child pornography charges

I think that you misunderstood my post. The video is of a 10 year old boy be sexually abused by someone other than Austin Wolf. Austin Wolf had possession of a copy of this video (a very serious felony in itself) and also transmitted this video to others (a very serious felony in itself). The government is not claiming that Austin Wolf made this video or participated in the sexual assault. In the USA, simply possessing this material, even if you had nothing to do with the sexual assault or production of the video, is a very serious crime with potentially very long prison sentences. Austin Wolf is learning that lesson the hard way. -

I don’t think that he has been charged with raping the 10 year old in the video. My reading of the charges was that someone other than Austin Wolf created that video. He is charged with possession of that video and sending it to the FBI agent and/or the initial person whose arrest led the FBI to Austin Wolf. His charges are serious enough, but they would be worse if the FBI could prove that he actually sexually abused a child. -

I think that his best likelihood of reducing sentence is to plead guilty. That spares the expense and work of trial and is worth something to the prosecution. The better tool is to have something useful to the prosecution. Time will tell on that. Juries aren’t sympathetic in general. It is also not just the content that he dowloaded which could be a combination of illegal and technically legal material. He was in contact with the FBI via Telegram and the content of those exchanges could easily undermine any attempt to argue that he thought that the content was simulated. Also, we have not seen (and only a jury will be shown) the video of the 10 year old being brutally victimized. There may very well be no plausible way to argue that he thought that the video was “simulated”. -
Belgian tourist dies after horrific attack by German
Travelingguy replied to reader's topic in The Beer Bar
The political party mentioned is a far right Flemish nationalist party. Its predecessor party was disbanded due to racism. That is interesting, given this guy is in Thailand with the Thai girlfriend. I wonder if there is a far right expat group in Hua Hin that the victim and the German assailant are both part of. I also find it interesting that a party comrade came to Thailand to take care of him rather than a family member or some other close friend. He must have been pretty heavily involved with this political party. -
Thank you very much Vinapu. Those are very much my kind of places and they don’t look to be very expensive!

Perhaps they should call it Club Shower. This is assuming that there is a shower somewhere. Oh well, in a pinch, a hose hooked up to a spigot in a corner will do.

I like apartment hotels. These split the difference. What I really like is having a kitchenette. I do not need a full apartment. I have stayed in a few of these, most recently in Singapore and really like this. So, my partner looks for airbnb’s while I look for hotels and aparthotels. I also think that they are more professionally run.

Unaffiliated security guards in altercation on Pattaya Soi 6
Travelingguy replied to macaroni21's topic in Gay Pattaya
I am not certain, but did that one security guard kill the tourist when he kicked him in the head? It wasn’t clear if the guy on the ground was dead or not. It was pretty disturbing in the end to watch. If the tourist is dead, that security guard committed murder. -
Obesity is a disease. The science about that is becoming much more clear with GLP1 medications like Ozembic, etc. I do not think that it is appropriate to mock people for a disease. If people in these photos had access to current medications, they could probably slim down and be healthier. Rude behavior is what earned the Ugly American stereotype, and is the primary complaint about some Russian tourists. Rudeness, unlike obesity, really is a character flaw.

The best thing about Russian and Chinese tourists is that they makes Americans look good.

Opinions on Salvador ? + Travelling to Brazil discreetly
Travelingguy replied to KJ1993's topic in Gay Brazil
It is a huge country and it is hard to visit all the various areas that you want to see in one trip. Like visiting the USA. It also is somewhat inexpensive for a really nice coastal vacation. So, combining sight seeing with real leisure time, for you it is perfect. Also, every time you go, you run into people who tell you about another part of the country that you just have to visit… -
Tawan Bar in Bangkok Closed: Police Raid Reported

If the former doorman/ tout is who I am thinking of, I was tempted to off him earlier this year. -
Has anyone used the Timeshifter app for jet lag? If you have, did you find it useful?
-
When you find him, remember to tell him you are Canadian. 😉

I think that this comes down to semantics to some degree. Settling a case usually involves a cash settlement. Done commonly in civil cases. Taking a plea bargain involves a criminal defendant accepting usually a lower sentence and/or charge from the prosecutor. Defendants can offer prosecutors something in exchange for the reduced sentence (testify against someone else, location of victims, body parts, money, etc). But if a criminal defendant offers a cash settlement to a prosecutor, he is likely to face additional charges. Unless…he gets lucky with the prosecutor. In some systems (France and Germany for example), the victim or the victim’s family can be represented in court as civil parties by their own counsel during the criminal trial. This Swiss guy or his family (probably not the wife since she already ran away) may want to get him out of the criminal case. The alleged bribe is vague and unlikely to become part of the case, unless they can nail down the details enough to arrest the people making the bribe. But bribes are offered for criminal cases, not lawsuits. In many jurisdictions, if a living victim refuses to press charges, there is not case. Possibly the goal here.

Ran across this today. The One Massage is on Silom. It also looks like Paradise might have moved next door according to Google Maps

i wonder if they would accept the card on your cellphone or in the app from the bank. I used the app for my bank to help identify my card that got stuck in a defective ATM machine in Siem Reap. Those bank employees went above and beyond to help me.

Hilton Garden Inn Silom had nobody there to stop you from bringing in a guest. You just walked in and made your way to the elevators.

I had read their reviews. There were some red flags in some of the reviews, but most of the other reviews were quite positive. I decided to go see the place. When I arrived, the gate/door was closed, but not blocked. I opened that and walked into the downstairs area. If you look on their website, they’re sitting on a couch talking to people often times.the area was filthy. The couch was filthy with obvious stains. There was a piece of cloth on a table next to the couch that was filthy. There were dishes in a sink to the right that looked like they hadn’t been washed in a week. I decided there was no way that I would go in there. and I also decided that there was no way I would have a massage there. So I left. I went to a spa that charged almost as much as Tori spa. Presumably, a totally legit spa. I was looking for a good massage. I got a good massage and scrub. It was beautiful. And my massage therapist gave me a happy ending which I was not expecting. So, I would strongly discourage people from going to Tori spa. It was hard to imagine that anyone would operate a business with that level of filth
