There's plenty of replies in this thread that answer these queries. But in short (and I travel to Egypt for business frequently) * In large Western hotels, guests are no problem. Basically, as a white Western male, you're not questioned much; assuming you fit in that category, have at it. But, obviously, be discreet - no handholding, don't have a stream of different men coming to your room at all hours. Smaller, cheaper, local hotels - it might be a bit different, but I suspect they wouldn't care. I did stay in a cheap Egyptian hotel in Dahab with two Egyptian men once - in one room for the three of us, with two beds. Nobody batted an eyelid, or if they did, it was in Arabic and not directed at me. * if you opt for an apartment, i.e. an Airbnb, be aware doormen can be nosey. I tend to give them LE200 when I arrive, after that they can't do enough for me, and they never question me when I bring a guest to the apartment. * Grindr comes with a big ugly warning message about police targeting Grindr users. In truth, they do, but equally, they leave tourists alone. Having a genuine photo on your account will make you stand out and will mean you will be bombarded with offers; a lot of them a flakes and guys you won't fancy, in which case, just block them. I have never been approached by a policeman; equally I have never had any danger chatting with or meeting someone on Grindr. The only thing that happened once was that I was catfished by a guy who, when he turned up, looked absolutely nothing like his photos: much older, awful teeth, way out of shape. He almost cried he was so desperate for sex; to his credit he did confess to me that he uses a fake photo to meet guys because otherwise nobody meets him. But he was so deeply unattractive, I was repulsed. I was kind to him, but nevertheless I kicked him out and told him he will never meet anyone if he continues to catfish. But, my point is: you will get a lot of attention on Grindr and will meet some men. Of the apps I use (Grindr, Scruff, Growlr), Grindr is by far the most successful. Locals never have real face pics on their profile, and, when sending phots, they make use of the disappearing images; frequently they will start conversions with a stream of disappearing messages followed by their stats. False names are common. As you chat with them they will ask to move to a different platform (WhatsApp, Insta, etc) to continue chatting fairly quickly. * it is also fairly easy to cruise/be cruised in public; I have done it, but I personally find using Grindr from the comfort of my apartment much easier. * I have been to a Hammam in Cairo with a gay Egyptian friend, but there was no cruising. The one I attended was in suburban Cairo and was clean, if basic. This particular one had separate men-only and women-only days. The attendants were strictly business-only. There are spas in the 5* hotels that are much nicer but also significantly more expensive; I have been approached by attendants for sexual favours there, I didn't fancy them so nothing happened. * I have not been to nightclubs in Cairo; a couple of bars, but that is all. Again, I was with local Egyptian friends, so I wasn't cruising. Booze is terrible in Cairo: sprits are local jet fuel, wine is universally awful South African rubbish; beer is watered down.

In my experience, common. I have in my phone contacts an actual Egyptian olympian! (Handball). We chat most days, and have for a couple of years. He owns and runs a gym in Alexandria. He is a lovely man, but his cock is a bit on the small side for my tastes.

Thank you for your post. Your experiences definitely correlate with mine. You absolutely do not need to use Grindr boost in Cairo. However, one thing which is handy, if you have the paid version of Grindr, is to take yourself offline. Keep chatting with guys you have connected with, but stay offline to stop the barrage of new messages continuing. Then, when you have exhausted that supply, go online again to collect a fresh batch of possibilities. I agree that with disappearing messages, which is the way most Egyptians use Grindr, it is very difficult to keep track of who is who. I use the Notes function if I fancy him, and the block button if I do not. Harsh, I know, but it's the only way I know how to manage it. I have stayed at the Marriott in Zamalek multiple times. Entertaining in my room has never been a problem there. The "security" checks at the various entry points to the hotel do not really achieve anything, as far as I can see. I mean, I have made the metal detector (?) go off, but nobody stopped me or checked the contents of my bag. If you do ever get challenged, I'd just say Ahmed/Mohammed/Mahmoud/Ismail is my colleague and we're meeting here for coffee, is there a problem? But in truth, I have never been challenged and I have taken many, many men through the security at the Marriott, both as a guest and as a visitor to the hotel myself. The last time I was there (in February) I was staying in an apartment, and my mate Ahmed and I went to the Marriott and used the pool. I smiled and gave the attendant a fake room number and slipped him LE200. We used the pool all day - but we also ordered food and drinks. He probably wouldn't have been so willing to bend the rules if it was peak season, but in February, the pool was practically deserted. It was lovely laying there in the winter sunshine. I agree that the talent pool is endless there. Just make sure you get tested for STDs when you get back home.

Rare, in my experience. If you want to use them you will need to supply them.

I am not going to defend myself, except to write that I’m sorry you feel the need to be so nasty. Oh, and that you’re completely deluded. But hey, you do you, I’ll just continue on my own merry and fabulous way having fun.

What nonsense. Nobody in Egypt has been "put to death" because of homosexuality. Yes, there is police harassment and imprisonment of Egyptian LGBTQ+ community members, and you certainly cannot hold hands or make other displays of public affection, but homosexuality is not actually illegal in Egypt, and there is no evidence that police target foreigners for engaging in homosexual activity. Having travelled to Egypt many times, as a Westerner, I have not, in any way, found it to be an "acutely homophobic culture". I would expect the OP, before taking my advice, would read the posts here about Egypt and make up his own mind. -
Visiting Istanbul next month
gay_world_traveller replied to Sherlocked's topic in European Men and Destinations
I went to Turkey - Istanbul - with my late husband about 8 years ago. I really really wanted to like it but we didn't have a good time. It just wasn't relaxing. Walking around, one felt one had to be on one's guard the whole time. My husband was pickpocketed on the crowded tram; his travel wallet with one credit card, his licence and a small amount of cash was taken. The credit card had £10,000 run up on it within 20 minutes - all from the same merchant. Clearly, it was organised crime; they had their own merchant terminal. It took us an hour to two to realise the card was stolen, so we phoned the bank and they cancelled the card and reversed the transactions (they hadn't been paid yet, only approved). I am afraid the experience has soured Turkey for me. On the other hand, my neighbour here in England is Turkish and she has invited me to her summer home in Bodrum. I might give it another try: Turkish men are sexy. -

Have you considered Cairo? There's a very broad spectrum of men available in Cairo. If you are a size queen, you will not be disappointed by the Egyptian men. If you prefer your men darker, travel from Cairo down to Upper Egypt (e.g. Luxor, Aswan), where the men look more African and less Middle Eastern/Arabic. -
A quick update from the departure lounge in Cairo Airport. A successful trip. I met up with a lot of my regular Egyptian f-buddies, and a good time was had. Juggling them was sometimes difficult! I did open Grindr and I did successfully meet a three outstanding men. One is a 24 year old serving is last days of National Service in the army. We chatted, exchanged pics, then determined he was on duty very near to where I was staying in Zamalek, so I walked over on a hot afternoon to meet him. I stayed chatting with him for about thirty minutes, and had an erection the whole time, and he did to. We couldn't do much, it was in the street, but we did manage a brief kiss and I touched his cock. He was off the next day, so he shot round the second he got permission. Stripped naked, his body was taut and lean, with a lovely amount of hair. And like all 24 year olds, he fucked like a rabbit. Number 2 was a 19 year old Medical Student from Alexandria; he had that handsome, vacant look that male models have. He was less my type, but he was over 6 feet in hight, very lean body, and again, fucked like a rabbit fed only on viagra. He is a lovely man from a very good family (all doctors). He travelled from Alexandria to Cairo specifically to meet me. Twice. Number 3 was a very dark man from Luxor, 28 and ripped like you wouldn't believe. He didn't speak a word of English, and after a few exchanges of words and pics he indicated payment was required. I told him that I do not pay for sex, so he left me alone... only to come back two days later to say he wanted sex with me, without payment. He was, truthfully, one of the thickest and biggest cocks I have ever had. I measured it and it was a genuine 25cm/9". His stamina was amazing - he'd cum, but be up again and trying to put it back in within 5 minutes. I had to beg for mercy. The amazing thing about him was that he kept coming back. I'd go off to the office, to find him waiting for me in the cafe next to my apartment when I returned. He never once asked for money, and I never gave it. I obviously got the usual number of flakes and men I don't fancy on Grindr. I also came up with a new, fun, strategy for dealing with the inevitable Top Cash profiles - I would reply that I was Bottom Cash. That flummoxed them, especially when I quoted a price three times theirs. Grindr does now come with a big, ugly message about police actively using Grindr to catch and arrest people, but I think they leave foreigners alone as it is too much hassle. It also means foreigners are rich pickings, as we are seen as safe. Just to reiterate, I do not see the need to ever pay for sex in Cairo. I'm no Adonis, I am a 54 year old with middle-aged spread, and I absolutely have no problem getting hot, desirable men who desire me. Even walking in the street, or in the market, I was cruised constantly, just like in previous trips. Even the guy behind the counter at the supermarket told me he "had the best meat in Cairo, I should definitely put it in my mouth" I cannot wait to go back in September.

I agree with the above. I have only been to Cape Town once, with my then-husband. We stayed for two nights in a ritzy small hotel, then in a private AirBnb run by an Englishwoman; both were in a posh neighbourhood (Newlands). The ritzy hotel had loads of gay staff, so no problem there, and it turned out the AirBnB owner and we had friends in common, so no problem there either. I was with my husband so we were not looking for sex. We were never in any real danger there, but one evening walking through a park in the centre of town to a restaurant felt a little uncomfortable, but nothing untoward happened. A few days later we went to Stellenbosch for the wineries; on the drive back, as we approached the motorway back to Cape Town, there was a car stopped ahead of us at red light at the motorway junction. I saw a car turn in from a site road into our road from the left, and pull up next to the car that was stationary. As we got closer, the people in the car that pulled up got out of their car and approached the stopped car. We didn't look, and we most certainly didn't stop to see what happened next: I went straight through the red light, around the vehicles and immediately onto the Motorway. It was the only time I ever knowingly went through a red light. Luckily the roads were very quiet.

Where to get a good massage in Marrakesh
gay_world_traveller replied to poopipans's topic in Gay Africa
I went to Marrakesh about twelve years ago with my then husband. We stayed at the Four Seasons. We booked a session in the Hammam in the hotel. Being a very upscale hotel, the sessions were done in private. It was my first ever hammam experience and I wasn’t 100% certain what to expect. As it happened, my therapist was quite firm, but not unpleasantly so. I was wearing a flimsy pair of paper shorts that they provided; the therapist was similarly in a pair of shorts and was naked above the waist. At one point after being washed numerous times, I was laying face down on a stone bench and the therapist was scrubbing me all over. He deliberately ripped my shorts and started scrubbing my bum. Eventually his fingers found my crack, and then after exploring for a little while, he inserted his finger into my anus. This made me flinch, as I was not expecting it, but I just lay there, assuming that it was part of the service. However, whilst he had his finger inside me, I started to feel this prodding on the side of my face (I was looking down, and it was quite dark in the room). I naturally turned to see what it was, only to see his ginormous and fully erect black cock being thrust towards me. I was so shocked, I immediately sat bolt upright and said, “no, no, no, no, no!” as my husband was in the next room and we were monogamous. He apologised and immediately put his penis away. The session ended soon afterwards. At least, after that, I didn’t need to tip him! -

As a frequent traveller to Egypt (specifically: Cairo) I must say that I don’t recognise the transactional nature of a lot of the posts here. I never pay for sex; I do not approve of prostitution. If a guy is doing the deed with me, I want him to be doing so because he fancies me, not because of the contents of my wallet. I travel to Cairo frequently for business and pleasure, and I have made many friends there. Most of them I met through apps, specifically, Grindr and Growlr. You can spot the fakes and they’re easy to ignore, but I have met some genuinely nice guys who remain friends. Turning on Grindr in Cairo is very good for one’s ego, if I turn it on, within five minutes I will have 300 messages. I exaggerate not. A lot of them are openly “cash top”; welcome to my blocked.list is my standard reply. Cairo is a bottom’s paradise: tops are both plentiful and hung. it’s never been a problem entertaining in my hotel room. I have only once been approached by hotel staff as described in some of the posts, but I’ve never done anything with them. I have also been cruised in the streets, and riding the Metro in shorts on a crowded train was very much a mistake. I would say wearing shorts In Cairo is an easy way to get picked up, because no locals wear shorts, so it makes you stand out. I once had a couple of Saudi guys feel me up in a lift in the Intercontinental Hotel, when I was wearing shorts. I don’t think each knew what the other was doing. The hottest incident was being picked up by a policeman in uniform at the Marriot in Zamalek. He was middle-aged, I guess mid 40s, and was in uniform, and I think a senior officer given the pips on his epaulettes. He was sitting at a table adjacent to me. We started talking, and over time as we were chatting, I could see that he had an huge erection in his trousers. Eventually he asked if my room had a nice view of the Nile, which I replied it did, so he asked if you could see it, adding that he had never been in any of the rooms. Of course I took him up, and, well, you can fill in the blanks. It was wild.
