Fears grow about Chinese military influence over Cambodia
KeepItReal replied to reader's topic in Gay Cambodia
I fear China is about to discover what Russia already has: the iPad generation has no interest in war and conquest. They can barely leave the couch. It is too late for subtle - make your move now or not at all. π -

Is the cooking class and boxing academy references an inside joke? I think I miss the context... -

Good insights! Thanks for sharing. A little off topic - could you share what the most popular snacks are? I've been to plenty of 7-Elevens (how could you not when in Thailand!) but I usually stick to my tried and tested. I'd like to try some of the popular snacks.... π

Murderous Vlad Vlad promotes genocide for Ukraine
KeepItReal replied to stevenkesslar's topic in Politics
Well, no. I will let @stevenkesslar speak for himself, but I think Russia fears that the Ukraine will start to act like Russia. It is okay for Russia to accept military aid and support from its friends (China and North Korea), but it is unacceptable for Ukraine to receive the same from its friends? Why the double standard? Would it be okay for Ukraine's leadership to threaten to turn Moscow into a "giant melted spot"? -
My Friday the 13th prediction is that when the lock up on sale of DJT stock expires next Friday (20th), Trump will sell and leave all his supporters holding the empty bag when the stock collapse.

So true! Choosing between politicians is always a choice between the worst society has to offer. That's not new. But let's look at the silver lining - at least we get to choice. When it comes to some other countries (cough...Russia) there is no choice given.

Insiders have been selling the stock - that is usually a bad sign. Some have sold a quarter or more of their holdings, as they are able. https://www.investing.com/news/company-news/trump-media-ceo-nunes-sells-over-630k-in-company-stock-93CH-3585825

Neighboring countries compete with Thailand for foreign retirees

Talk about desperate - have you seen Putin sweat this past week? Running around the country, trying to raise support. It is a shame so many people have been killed to prove what we already knew...the Russian war machine is made of paper. It turns out the big red Russian bear has no claws. Their tanks have thin armor, their rockets only strike on target 33% of the time, their troops carry paintball padding as body armor and their much hailed stealth fighter is less stealthy than an F/A 18 Hornet that dates from the previous millennium. Ukraine has been kicking their butts with previous generation equipment...just think what current generation NATO equipment would do to them. It makes one wonder if their nukes are even a real threat... which is probably why everyone is ignoring all those "red line" threats and the red line keeps getting pushed.

Sure, there is crime. But there is crime everywhere. I compared Cape Town with a similar sized city in the USA, Memphis TN, Baltimore MD and found the crime rate comparable. Like most cities, there see neighborhoods you should avoid and some local knowledge will bring down the risk of being impacted by crime significantly. -

I am broadening my thinking and reconsidering if I should look beyond my planned 2nd home in Asia. Frankly, I really enjoyed my time in Cape Town, South Africa. Tax laws are fairly friendly and property is relatively cheap while the dollar is strong. Watching some YouTube videos about how it works and experience from those who have done so at the moment.
