Some on here are looking only for sex. Others are looking to make connections and experience another culture. Neither position is wrong but I do think it greatly influences one’s response to the are free-Grindr-meets-a-good-use-of-time-while-on-travel question. Transactional sex is fine but I like making connections too. For example, last month when I was in Rio, I learned where to go in Rocinha to buy weed…. The gangsters have a store with with a large black pig named Elizabeth out front…. I don’t smoke but, well, it doesn’t get more authentic than that which is what I was looking for on that particular day of my vacation.

Generally, that’s been my experience as well and, I agree, one is more likely to cross paths with an English speaker in SP than elsewhere. This is no big deal but my question pertained to my last post and not translation in general. I know there are members out there translating these posts from English into other languages and, well, I had just opted to write, “looks like Baron Harkonnen” instead of “not repulsive” which struck me as something that might not translate all that well so I added the question to the end of the post.

I’ve written other posts about this before but the short version is that I enjoy and have had success hunting guys that are exactly what I am into on IG (and to a lesser extent Twitter) while in Brazil. Side note, at least in my experience, this is not a thing that works anywhere else in the world other than Brazil. In both cases, the guys that requested video chat from me I initially crossed paths with on IG and, yes, I think they wanted to confirm that they were not dealing with somebody that looked like Baron Harkonnen before agreeing to get naked together. Strange question: Are my posts difficult to translate into another language? I suspect that they are.

Would it be possible to creat subforums for the discussion of useful Portuguese and Spanish phrases? I have found myself looking for words that don’t seem to be part of the standard Duolingo course on more than one occasion.

Has anybody been to Belém? There is a very affordable direct flight from FLL to there on Azul that works for my next trip to Brazil but the most recent info on here concerning Belém that I could find is from 2016.

I went to Lagoa tonight for a prearranged meeting with one of my favorites but was stopped dead in my tracks by a twink with an incredible body who turned out to be fully vers and able to do this thing with his tongue…. In any case though, we had a threesome and now I am sleepy. If your into 20-ish twinks with an amazing body that give incredible blowjobs, you should stop what your doing and head to Lagoa. And, whether or not that is your bag, vocês should be aware that clients out numbered boys for the first time in my very limited post-COVID experience and prices were firm at 200 for a session.

I was there a few months ago…. Not good. Lagoa in SP is much better. I did have a good time in Porto Alegre but not at the sauna.

I also don’t inquire about PrEP use when in a sauna. The guys I have met in Brazil on Instagram or Grindr or at the beach or exchanged WhatsApp with and reconvened with outside the sauna…. I would say about 90% are on PrEP. That’s just my personal experience though. One 19 year old I met on Grindr last trip had been on PrEP for as long as he had been sexually active. He made a joke about only having ever worn a condom the handful of times that he had had sex with women. He was very well educated and from a well off family though so certainly an atypical example. The comment did make me feel old though. Very, very old.

It appears he has yet to posted a single public message.

why usd to reais is so weak
Novarunner replied to babybear2's topic in Latin America Men and Destinations
I do miss massage in Thailand. In fact, that and as you said “we all need change” are the reason I have started to think about making a trip halfway around the world sometime later this year. I couldn’t agree with you more though, the chance of mediocre sex in Thailand is much higher than in Brazil. I learned to deal with it but I also never really liked the “it’s up to you” payment philosophy in Thailand. I’m so glad that’s not a part of the culture in Brazil. It also seems that the number of guys that just want to fuck a middle aged American for nothing in return is exponentially higher in Brazil than in Thailand. -

New question: Due to some events you may have read about in the newspaper over the past two years, it’s been a while since I’ve been to Thailand. Aside from the fact that Brazil is a shorter flight and the language is something I could actually possibly maybe have a for real big boy conversation in one day are “activities” with the locals more or less expensive in Brazil than in Thailand? -

Huh…? When I am in Brazil, I eat almost all of my meals in restaurants and regularly spend money on “activities” with the fine young gentlemen that I continue to meet there. In America, I do not eat out constantly and my “activities” budget is zero yet - and I am completely serious when I say this - I think vacationing in Brazil is less expensive than living in America. In any case, if you really do think Brazil is expensive, I strongly suggest you avoid NYC, San Francisco, Washington, DC, London, Paris, etc. -
Medellin, Colombia, April 9/17 2022

Do you think a big part of that has to do with the fact that you are fluent in Spanish? The reason Brazil grew so quickly on me is that the language is something that I can learn whereas Thai was just something that was never going to happen. With each trip to Brazil my Portuguese has improved and with it new opportunities have become available. -
I suggest you go seeking a decent massage and see what happens.

I recommend Xtudiolotus.com.br.

We really do have similar tastes…. Sebas Blanco has me thinking of dusting off my Columbia file and actually making the trip that never happened but started this thread.

Omicron CoV VOC Brazil, etc

Huh….? Other than wearing a mask when entering a building, my recent trips to Brazil were not impacted by COVID. -
Sao Paulo newbie AirBnB question

Thx! I’m actually getting to be pretty good at reading Portuguese (thanks Doulingo) and even better at texting in Portuguese (thanks Grindr). My auditory comprehension needs improvement and my pronunciation still needs a great deal of improvement though. Tips for improving either one from those that have learned the language are very welcome. Quem não joga não ganha. -

Are there more threads like this if one is willing to put the time in reading decades old posts? Is there a reason other than COVID that there haven’t been any recent posts like this? I’m asking for a, um, friend that happens to be a visual learner. Palavras are nice but fotos are better. -
Sao Paulo newbie AirBnB question
Novarunner replied to topjohn5's topic in Latin America Men and Destinations
It feels sort of weird to be using this part of my brain while logged onto this website but my “American rental property math” is really nothing more than that one can typically rent a property at a monthly rate equal to about 1% of the property’s value. In this case, $34 per day equals about $1,000 per month which suggests a property value of about $100,000. I’m not dating him but the smart and very, very attractive Carioca that is currently helping me learn Portuguese - he was outstanding when it came to helping me name the part of the body - was horrified when I mentioned that I would like to split time between here and something small but nice in Leblon. His reaction puzzled me considering that I stayed in/near Leblon two of the three times I’ve been to Brazil and he and I have been out to eat in Leblon frequently. Maybe he just thinks Leblon is overpriced or not someplace he would actually want to live. Or, more likely than not since he speaks pretty decent English but typically converses about transactions that do not involve the sale of real estate and my Portuguese is still very much limited to body parts and what one might do with those body parts, we probably just misunderstand each other which is why I’m going to go back to trying to find trash television in Portuguese to watch in preparation for my next trip on March. Suggestions are welcome if anyone has a show they would like to recommend. -

Does anybody know how much it would cost to purchase an apartment like that? If it rents for $34 per day, back of the envelope American rental property math suggests a value of about $100,000 USD. -
Nobody else is a fan of Etta Bar or Pato com Laranja…? Those are my two favorites in Rio.

I was planning a trip to Medellin but put it off because I was unsure what the quarantine requirements in mid-2021 were there and went to Brazil instead. I still want to go to Medellin. You see there was this guy I met years ago while on vacation in Miami from Medellin and I am sincerely hoping the rest of the population looks something, anything, like him but I digress…. In any case though, I have fallen hard for Brazil, especially Rio. And, now that I’m getting somewhat close to being able say big-boy sentences in Portuguese, it’s not going to be easy to get me to go somewhere else anytime soon. Between Duolingo and the gay slang I have learned from my new friends in Brazil, I expect my next trip will require significantly less pointing which is a good thing.
