  1. Many a new face will please my eye Many a new love will find me Never have I once looked back to sigh Over the romance behind me
  2. Yet one can find people that disagree the characters in Giovanni's Room made love, or people that disagree Lysis and Alexias ever made love in Last of the Wine. Was a difficult task getting the point across back in the 50s and 60s, to get that published. Call it what you will. Clever, subtle, deft, and so on.
  3. Find Me covers a lot more ground than CMBYN. ×××××××××× SPOILER. xxxxxxxxx Did you notice the part in Cadenza where Michile wets his mouth with wine and Elio needs to figure out where to set the bottle down, so he sets it on the floor?
  4. Imagine family gatherings of siblings, aunts, uncles and so on, gathered around sharing memories, how those conversations drift. That's part of the nature of conversation. That said, the OP might give some thought to their goal for the thread and be mindful how well their first post might frame the intent of the discussion. If folks decide to go off on a tangent, others might politely reign in the dialogue back on track. Or wave a white flag and move on.
  5. Writing about it was unusual too. I assume that is why authors like Baldwin and Renault used such subtle references to same sex affairs of their characters.
  6. An early 2019 article in GQ also looked back at Baldwin for perspective. Baldwin saw the handwriting on the wall and moved to France, as did the main character in Giovanni's Room, Baldwin's novel of an American's despair. I love the article's images of Baldwin's style.
  7. Sometimes one can question what we are taught. Some believe history was re-written to make Hoover the villain though he was actually a humanitarian, kind of like how we have come to refer to Reagan as the great communicator, though he may not have been, and how an airport was renamed for him in spite of Reagan being one of the most scandal plagued presidents. I am not an expert historian, but I did learn an alternate view at the Hoover LIbrary and also at the World Food Prize Hall of Laureates. Hoover insisted his gravesite be visible from his birthplace home as a symbol of never forgetting humble beginnings.
  8. Hoover got stuck with what was wrought by the greedy fools that came before. him.
  9. Somehow Mencken''s quote makes today seem less frightening, that we've been through this before, looking back at Harding & Coolidge.
  10. No matter how good they taste, I'd never enjoy eating one, just like i can't stomach watching a Mel Gibson movie, no matter how well reviewed.
  11. Glenn was my fave.
  12. He wants to continue to think of us a silly, cocksuckers first, before anything else, and that we should have no cause to protest his old school ways of referring to our sexual habits every chance he can get. As comedians go, he's not exactly fresh.
  13. One of the members acted as though an innocent old codger, yet was always stirring up division in all sorts of ways. One of his schemes was pointing to the problems with California and even the CalExit movement. CalExit turned out to be an initiative run out of a PO box in Fresno, owned by some dude in Russia. After that I became suspicious of all the trolls and the wacky blogs they would link to.
  14. I tease myself about falling in love with a couple of guys that consistently treat me well. It's not that kind of love.yet I know there are feelings that well up inside concerning these two that may not happen with other hires. I also know that my judgement is never impaired (so far). Giving someone advice is tricky, especially concerning matters of the heart. Guess you could tell him you are worried and willing to talk about it if your friend wants to.

    The Organ

There is quite an organ in Balboa Park in San Diego. They include a rousing Star Spangled Banner with each concert. Love that park https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ugKHxo39L_4
  16. I've put all the trolls on ignore over there and will keep on until there is nothing left of value. Miss your posts and others that are gone.
  17. Loved her recent reference to Devon Nunes' stupidity.
  18. I was surprised hearing that some lesbian couples watch gay porn, and a little confused as well. But then I heard it again from another source, so it is not so far fetched. Even more confusing (to me) was hearing that some straight men watch gay porn on the internet. I get it, a lot of people will make assumptions about these particular cases, these people all must be bi, and so on. I don't know. It's just interesting what people are excited to watch.
  19. This is surprising and good news. In the age of smartphones I wondered about the fate of books. Are there any threads in the Forum on books and literature?
  20. When just a lad in the Midwest, I visited a friend going to seminary in NYC. We attended the Pride parade. At that age, it really opened my eyes. After all these years, I still remember the excitement. We got our moneys worth. The parade lasted 4 hours.
