Avianca, the Columbian airline, is outstanding and one of the first commercial airlines. It serves several US cities. United is it's Star Alliance partner.I've flown it's nonstop from DC and it's nicer than United. Even Spirit flies nonstop from Ft Lauderdale. Medellin has nonstops to the US also. All very cheap, it's a short flight.

Cartagena is also very beautiful, gay, and more Caribbean while Medellin is more like several Mexican cities.
