The Democrats are now the party of the rich and the warmongers who give platitudes about the poor and the Republicans are the party of the poor uneducated peasants because they're they're inexplicably led by a rich former liberal Democrat posing as a crude Jacksonian commoner. Someone might think parties don't mean much except for the one somebody can make most $$ through. Big Dummy went to a catfish fry by a police union while Kamala is in LA raking in fundraiser checks from hedge funds, banks, media companies, Silicon Valley and the war industry (and giving out IOU's). It's not which party is the party of the rich anymore, it's which party isn't? Conservative vs. liberal is meaningless now. I don't care about personalities anymore. I just want to know the policies they will follow (not just say they will either). When you fall for personalities you end up as as victim to the best bullshitter, the smoothest liar. When people are spoken with not on personality or political party but as people on their own economic interest they almost always respond differently than on their political affiliation. The Trump voters hate Wall Street the banks and Pharma more than anyone and on those issues have no reason to be supporting either tool of Wall Street. Neither should they be supporting our perpetual racist wars where the body bags are always the poor and never the rich and the emirs, shieks and rabid rabbis they kill and die for who never risk any of their kids or money either. Politics should be economics a lot more and personalities a lot less. A huge problems I have with Lichtman's "keys" in 2020 is that the economics is not clear anymore. "Unemployment" can be kept exceptionally low , as in Europe, during this recession by keeping people technically "employed" with the government paying 70% of their former salary to them. We tried that with the PPP . And the Wall Street economy is soaring past all previous levels. Not because the economy is soaring but because the government is about to give more corporate welfare to Wall Street. So Lichtman would say absent the pandemic, that Trump was a shoo-in? People do not feel that good about their own economics right now no matter how well Wall Street is doing. Trump should not be anywhere close to even being in the running. I want to know on policies: 1. Who will stop the perpetual genocide and continual war that America has devolved into? Committing genocide is a human sin that trumps all. When we're stuffing people into ovens let's not skip to other issues. Let's open the oven doors and figure out how we get out of that mess first. How do war criminals responsible for Iraq, much less Yemen, Somalia, Syria and Libya even have credibility as candidates ? 2. Who will stop the corporate welfare ("socialism for the rich") where working people's hard-earned tax money is funneled to the big corporations that are "too big to fail" and who fatten the wallets of their benefactors? 3. Who will respect democracy and allow people to control their own life even if objectively they may make a bad decision? Democracy is always the best method. Consensus is also good but a democratic process is paramount. Germany chose Hitler. But then he stopped democracy for a reason. The US needs to be a democracy. 4. Who will respect freedom of speech? The one outstanding thing about American is not capitalism, it's our freedom of speech where a "marketplace of ideas" lets anyone say any nonsense they want for risk of losing new ideas that improve our lives. People posting on boards about escorts should be especially worried about this issue after SESTA and Backpage. Our heroes want to put us in prison for life and at least one has it as a hallmark achievement and campaign. 5. Who will get America universal healthcare at lowest cost to average people through premiums or taxes. Remember when Trump said "why not just put everyone on Medicare"? Obama probably fainted worried about paying for one of his new mansions. Remember Dole's joke about how he proposed that with all the favorable tax treatment of real estate we should just stop taxing real estate income and a dozen lobbyists fainted. The accelerated depreciation was worth a lot more than the income. 6. Who will stand up to China the strongest? Russia is #14 in GDP and Iran is not even in the top 50. China is the #1 country now and we're going to start moving into Chinese world hegemony. It's a surveillance state like Orwell never dreamed of and it's a cruel society. The war lobby here has drained most of our money for super-expensive weapons that are all but worthless in the 21st century. Those F-35's we have instead of healthcare are great in short-distance but against an enemy so far away are worthless as their required refueling planes would be shot down immediately. Drones and cyberwar are today's weapons and are cheap. (And America does have plenty of drone power, ask the 100,000 dead in Yemen and Somalia and the many more dead across the dark-complexion world.). Unless people get candidates to take positions on policy they can be held to, or at least make sure those issues are out there and discussed, elections are just beauty contests. Anyway, as a DC voter my preference for president is as meaningless as yours in California. So it gives me the luxury of working on issues and specific reform Democrats and independents I care about and can lobby for. The National Vote Compact is a big one I lobby for and am fine getting support from Democrats, Republicans, independents, Know-Nothings, anyone in a non-partisan way. Kasich opposes it and like most Republicans knows it will hurt them a lot, but most ordinary people agree it's the fair way to elect presidents. I gave my political money this year to Jamaal Bowman and Cori Bush and the "colored girl squad" who were viciously under attack from foreign government money. (I also slipped an email to Katie Porter in CA as a Thank You for her clarity.) Also I'm in the half of Democratic voters who the K Hivers want to go away and stay out of the party. lol, fooled them as I changed from considering myself a party lemming to being an independent a couple years ago, joining all the younger people I know who laughed at me being a Democratic party relic. And on deficits (most of which is to the Chinese) , the New Economic Theory seems to be proven out by Trump's deficits that they don't really matter so long as they're in your currency and you own the printing presses. You and I have different views of Clinton. I consider him the start of the DLC and Reagan as the hero of the New Democrats. And Kaisch may be a charmer but he got so popular by practically outlawing abortion in Ohio, passing Right to Work and other union-busting laws, vetoing raising the minimum wage, supporting the Iraq invasion, and scrapping state bank and environmental regulations, but he did sign expanding Medicaid (important). Now it's showing power through a fuck-you , ram-it-through victory, compromise is showing weakness and consensus is an unheard word. I honestly don't know anymore which party has the more honest people , or that anyone cares. The special interests, especially Wall Street and Silicon Valley are all that matter to please, not the people. I run up on so many of these power strategists who are so much more important than members of Congress and their incomes show it. My friend Jon was a friend of Pete Buttigieg when Buttigieg was a lobbyist here for a year. Hilary Rosen off tv lived down the block for a couple years while she was power boosting for good and evil (no preference) and moved uptown to a mansion she paid $25 million for cash after 2 years. But speaking of Black poverty you just can't get around the fact that they lost half their wealth after 2009 because of the laxity given to the banks in foreclosures. We gave the banks plenty of money to have policed foreclosures they did better and to have helped homeowners save their homes better. Ditto letting Mnuchin off in California for illegally taking a million homes in foreclosure. Would a Republican have done the same? I have a feeling things may have changed a lot in the DC political pit since you were last here. The 10% drop in the CNN poll last week after selecting Kamala may have been an outlier. But if their nationals didn't rise, it means that her home-state bump may mean the other states diminished. The most concerning were the polls showing them dropping to a tie in Democratic Minnesota and to within the margin of error in Biden's "home" state of Pennsylvania. (They maintained in NH and Maine). I never thought she could herself carry MacComb County, Michigan which may decide the election, much less the other critical county of Pinellas in Florida. If she's increasing the dark blue state vote but costing swing state votes that means Dems will have to do much better than Hillary's 3% win nationally to win. Anyway, it's a long 2 1/2 months (or 1 1/2 until most people will start voting). Like NY we may not know the results for a month or more after. I hope it's not another Gore v. Bush. That was irritating (and dismal). We need easier and safer voting in most of the country It's too hard and many votes get lost.

I remember essays years ago that economics was also a most important issue for gays because they were lower economically than straights. I think that was when most middle class accumulation of wealth was from owned homes and gays rented. But then recently I heard of some essays and haven't gotten to them contending that gay men now actually accumulate wealth, or at least keep more income, than straight people. I'd love to see those charts because it's counter to how I was politically raised. In advising people I always told them that economics were critical to gays because they made less salary and survived in apartments alone and were less likely to have health insurance or savings. Have we become bougie? No one told me. Should I develop a superior attitude? Is it too late for me to? You have a lot more faith in politicians than I do. Mine were a long, continuous, string of stunning disappointments starting at 18 until I just couldn't be disappointed anymore. I just expected the worse, I got along much better with politicians I worked with then because "I got it". It's all a scam. DC's dirty little secret people here make a fortune off of as advisors and strategists. And plenty of them are high-paid gay advisors to the most infamous horrible creatures and firms. I think the more horrible the person or firm, the better the pay. Few people realize how many people are in that work here. But, yeah, I think money cures the gayness.

It's essential to the rich that the poor be kept divided and at each other's throats. Repeat that hussle with poor whites, poor Latinx . Rich people are slick puppeteers. But out of this pandemic is coming a rapid transformation to the next industrial revolution (which was coming more slowly anyway). I'm not sure if Lichtman's keys make sense in a world of perpetual too-high unemployment brought on by AI, robots, drones, tele-work, etc where vast wealth is created but we still have no method to apportion it fairly, much less tax the recent unfathomable accumulations of wealth by a handful of people. Younger people, right,left,center, seem fine with the social stuff and are incredulous we still put up with the economic garbage somewhere between oligarchy and feudalism with occasional scraps thrown to the peasants. Eisenhower even complained of it and the war industry economy in the '50's, and it's a whole lot worse now. Trump is way behind on his personal behavior and talk but a thousand times worse is his economics. And unfortunately that very same economics is shared by the new Democratic Neo-Libs. "We will change nothing" indeed. But Trump doesn't even know the bullshit talk to use to placate the older masses. He's not even in the political game of 2020. All he can hope for is like 2016, that the Democrat becomes much more repugnant to more people in more of the swing states. If he can't be a good liar he should have stayed out of politics.

These ads aren't to change any minds but to reinforce already pro-Trump gay conservatives and, more important, to let Trump supporters feel they are "open-minded". Re-enforcement is all that matters. If Pennsylvania passes it next and almost any small state it becomes law. (Colorado has a right to rescind by popular vote on the Nov 3 ballot but it won't.) From a world view , the right-wing populist movements have never been reversed that I can think of by reversion to liberal establishment parties. (I could be missing one and after Brexit Spain did reverse polls for one election and keep them...for a short time). Only left populist parties have ever defeated right-populist parties (afaik), and they usually are not lasting wins. Italy's trying revision to Liberal/left as a weird coalition but it seems a stretch to last. Macron, Merkel and Trudeau are the last liberals standing as the UK slips Boris Johnson super-right. Rejection of the liberal economic establishment seems pretty world-wide, even though there's no love of the populist right. In the US I'm afraid the next "Trump" will be many times more popular, likable (easy) and powerful. I see a Nikki Haley landslide in 2024 and a total government far, far to Trump's right if the Dems win 2020 and lose favor. Strategy-wise the best news for Dems is that Trump is even stupider. He's going with a traditional "Dems are lefties" campaign the GOP does on every Democrat instead of corruption, which Biden is an easy mark for. Of course it's not like the GOP likes the subject brought up of...ahem....corruption too often anymore than Dems in government do. I've been in the Clearwater/St Pete/Sarasota area half the summer. Pinellis is the flip county in Florida. I've been amazed how strong the Trump support is in what polls as a +6 Biden area. It is not. They just broke a record with a 2000-boat Trump flotilla of supporters' boats with Trump flags and Trump has had an effective 24/7 media barrage of "China Joe, China Joe" even though the Dems are supposed to have much more money. There seems to really be a scary Trump popular consensus with Trump flags everywhere. If they make this a purely anti-China election Dems could be sunk But again,that assumes the GOP is smarter than the Dems and I don't see any evidence of even that super-low bar being passed. .Hopefully Trump stays more detestable than the Dems. Even more than 2016. But don't count out the DLC's ability to be more obnoxious and arrogant. Those DLC war criminals can out-obnoxious anyone when they have to to insure a loss, even in a year where they're flooded with Wall Street and war industry money much more than Republicans.

The twins visa extensions are expiring and we've decided they need to get home to Europe for a bit, even if they could get another extension. They assumed I'd be flying back with them but I don't have a European passport (trying). So I can't travel to a place that has much less covid than here and much better medical care and hospitals. I guess otherwise there'd be covid tourism. This vaccine needs to hurry TF up and they need to allow transit with tests now.

The convention and party that could have been....a small taste in the short segment Andy Yang got finally (42% of his supporters say they will not vote for Biden now). Julian Castro, Tulsi Gabbard and other young leaders of their generation were told they weren't welcome in the party and AOC was treated miserably. How can this even be close? How can the Democrats be so much more obnoxious than that? They found a way in 2016 and it looks like they're doubling down on that same tactic in 2020 hoping they can imitate the 2018 strategy. I've been a Democrat all my life and worked only for Democrats. But this is the old Republican party. And all the worst people are flocking to it while the good people quietly leave as requested to form a new People's Party probably. I live in the densest portion of DC and racially and economically we're piled on top of each other pretty equally. The one thing you notice here is that economics, money, supersedes race nine times out of ten. For 12 years I was the non-paid advisory neighborhood commissioner to DC for my neighborhood elected by my 2000 neighbors overwhelmingly every time by the Black voters over very-well-financed white opponents the white and black gentrifying interests put up. Except for my first election when I defeated the chairman of our commission who was a corrupt Uncle Tom bougie black. I have noticed that with the younger crowd race by itself is much less an issue and fighting corruption, genocide, and poverty is a given. Good for them. So, as a sideline, I know the workings of DC social strata very well and being called a racist by a white guy is not only water off a duck's back but laughable. Obama in particular has done very well financially playing the race card while killing more Blacks than any president in history and taking what wealth Blacks had accumulated here away to help his banker buddies. All those new $50 million mansions of his aren't coming from being the saviour of the poor against Wall Street and Pharma. The reverse. But he does do an amazing con job, especially to the older crowd and the white guilt trippers. In fact Obama intentionally oversaw the greatest taking of wealth away from Blacks in history. And championing his Big Pharma buddies usually meant Blacks were the ones caught in the middle who weren't poor enough for Medicaid but not well-paid enough for employer insurance programs to afford their prescriptions. There's a reason so many Blacks die without $1000 a month insulin, and Obama gimmicked the price. During his terms Black income plunged in relation to other segments of the population and Black wealth was decimated because of his policies favoring the big banks over, often Black, homeowners they foreclosed on. What little family wealth Blacks had started to accumulate disappeared under his pro-foreclosure policies. As a ironic sidenote, possibly the only other person who was such a disaster to Black home owners was Kamala Harris who as Attorney General in California intervened and stopped the prosecution of Steve Mnuchin for illegally taking 1 million homes in foreclosures in California. He gave her contributions and has come back to be Secretary of the Treasury. Funny how Kamala grilled every Trump appointee except him. Actually not so funny. America has got to get out of dehumanizing people of color as animals to be culled and exterminated. And until we do we won't get out of that attitude toward Blacks and Latinx here in the US. Almost every policeman who kills Blacks learned that attitude toward Blacks overseas in the military.I was on the citizen's review board of our DC police area and don't even get me started on police brutality to Black, brown and gays in DC. My block had to recently take in and fight DC police at our doors for 100 teenage mostly Black peaceful demonstrators they were shooting with rubber bullets and tear gassing in our block. And now Mayor Bowser has paved over the "Defund Police" sign BLM painted and wants the DC police budget vastly increased because their supply of tear gas has been depleted. Our DC police are almost 100% combat veterans and very racist and anti-gay. But being called a racist by a white guy? Don't make me wear my keyboard out typing lol's.
