  1. Perhaps axiom meant the following: http://guysinsweatpants.com/ ?
  2. Phyllis Lindstrom was also in her own sitcom called Phyllis, lasted only a couple seasons if I recall. During the Mary Tyler Moore Show, Rhoda went back to NYC for her sister Debbie's wedding but when Rhoda got her own series she was dropped and a new sister, Brenda, was added. And the answer to #7 is 21 Jump Street (how could anyone not remember that show that introduced us to a sexy young Johnny Depp...oh how I drooled over him in that show in my youth). I love TV trivia
  3. Quoted from the site referenced below: What is that green stuff in fruitcakes anyway? There are two things that are green in fruitcakes. One is the bright green maraschino cherries that are often used, especially as decorations on top. I don't blame you for being leery of those - they are a color seriously not found in nature. The other is citron, which is a paler green (and is seen in the Society logo at the bottom of the page). This is a naturally occuring fruit which has been candied as a means of preserving it. Citron is a family of fruit which includes the Etrog used in Jewish Sukkot, or Feast of Tabernacles. Ref: http://mbgoodman.tripod.com/sppf_faq.html
  4. Michael Buble: Ella:
  5. Totally agree about Sinatra...the earlier the better. I couldn't find a great YouTube Bing Crosby but he certainly was amazing. Loved that video of the trio of Allan Sherman, Dean Martin and Vic Damone
  6. Interesting that I didn't consider women as crooners but Expat is so right and there are some great lady crooners...Barbara being the best imho of that list. Really enjoyed that version of "Smile" and it indeed did make me smile. My runner up of female crooners is of course Judy (long intro but song starts around 2:10):
  7. Sitting at home this evening with a bottle of wine (so forgive this nonsensical thread) and just surfing around YouTube checking out various crooners that I have enjoyed from years gone by as well as current . After hours of surfing I have come to the personal conclusion that my favorite is Andy Williams....what are yours? Here is a list of from one source of the best ten (which Andy does not appear on so I have totally discounted the validity of the list myself but am sharing it for reference): http://voices.yahoo.com/the-ten-best-crooners-all-time-5044388.html If you care to, I'd be interested to know of any of other members favorites (and post a vid of your favorite song they did). Here is mine: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LK4pmJQ6zgM http://youtu.be/flm4xcOyiCo My runner up is Matt Monro: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nx_ktGU3-tQ (btw, I am fascinated to find out the origin of "crooner" but google searching in my current condition precludes me from gaining any insights so help me out)
  8. Joe, a young journalism graduate from Arkansas, had gone to work for the New York Times. His first assignment was to write a brief human interest story. An idea came to Joe and he returned to one of the most remote areas he knew of in his home state of Arkansas. Deep in the woods, Joe came upon a farmer’s house and decided this would be a good place to start. He introduced himself to the back country farmer and explained why he was there. The farmer (named Farmer Rusty) agreed to answer his questions. Joe asked farmer Rusty what event in his life had made him the happiest? Farmer Rusty replied, “One time a neighbor lost one of his sheep. We all formed a posse and found it. After we all had sex with it, we took it back to the farmer that lost it.”; “I can’t print that,” said Joe the reporter, “Is there another event that made you really happy?” Farmer Rusty thought for a minute and said, “Yep. One time the daughter of another local farmer got lost. She was a good-lookin’ young girl. We all formed a posse and found her. After all of us had sex with her, we took her back to her daddy.”; Again Joe knew he couldn’t print the story and decided to take a different approach. He asked Farmer Rusty, “Is there any event in your life that has made you really sad?”; Farmer Rusty hung his head and replied, “Well, I got lost once".
  9. Yes, the more I like the thing, person or whatever it may be, the easier the commitment is to keep...however, for me, make no mistake that it still takes effort because there is a countervailing force to the whole concept of commitment. No matter how much I enjoy something, as soon as there is a commitment I struggle with the feeling of being constrained, even suffocated to some extent, by the lack of freedom and flexibility. That is probably the best way for me to describe my reaction to commitments. For example, I really enjoy golf very much and is one of my passions in life. But as soon as I join and commit to a league that I play in every year, I really have to work to keep that commitment for playing even though I truly love the game. I enjoy more the impromptu round scheduled whenever the mood strikes me. If I did not love the game, I am sure I could not maintain the commitment to the league but it is always a struggle. A similar analogy can be made with relationships. Not sure that really makes sense but hopefully gives a sense of how commitment makes me have to work at it and doesn't come naturally or easily for me.
  10. Made me smile this morning so thought I would share. According to one of the articles referenced below "The church, located just south of the Rock River, even has a curious slogan we swear we're not making up: "Rising up." I can't help but think the architect had a wicked sense of humor..... http://gawker.com/christian-science-church-looks-like-a-giant-dick-from-s-1454084292 http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/10/29/christian-science-church-_n_4174870.html
  11. Very interesting news about American Apparel using him as a model. He has also done some limited porn: http://ifuseekandy.com/2011/06/chris-crocker-does-gay-porn/
  12. For some reason that I fail to fully understand in myself, I find commitments to be extremely hard work (for many, perhaps most of those that I have or have had). As I've "matured", I've learned to be very careful and selective in making commitments of any kind but I sometimes wonder how I ever got to be this way as I see others make and keep them so easily (or so it appears to me).
  13. Never flew Air India and internally always used Kingfisher Airlines, per the strong suggestion of our local people at the time. My recollection was a decent airline with acceptable customer service. Beer wasn't half bad either. Not sure what international routes they flew but we always took Continental (at that time) from NY to Dehli then switched over to Kingfisher.
  14. Maybe there is hope for him yet? Or for those more jaded, maybe he finally got a good PR firm working for him. JUSTIN BIEBER BUILDING SCHOOL IN GUATEMALA http://www.tmz.com/2013/10/28/justin-bieber-guatemala-build-school-construction-jungle/ Justin Bieber ventured deep into the Guatemalan jungle to help a group of poor villagers construct a badly needed schoolhouse this weekend ... and TMZ has the pics. After Justin performed in Guatemala City on Saturday, he joined up with Pencils of Promise -- an organization dedicated to building schools for communities in need. JB was choppered into a remote area outside the city on Sunday ... where a makeshift construction crew was already busy putting up walls for the new school . In a video posted on his blog, Bieber says the town was overrun with poverty -- "I'm not talking about poor, I'm talking about 10 people living in a little shack." Inspired, Justin ditched his shirt and went to work -- grabbing a wheelbarrow and helping to build a wall for the school. He also took off his shoes and gave them to one of the local children. Afterward, Bieber says it was, "one of the most amazing powerful experiences of my life." Bieber says the experience helped him grow as a person -- saying, "I feel like they helped me as much as I helped them."

    So who's lying?

Whatever happened to the the two source rule in journalism? Isn't there supposed to be two independent reliable/trustworthy sources to proceed with that in the media? Or have things deteriorated to such a point that it no longer applies...perhaps I am answering my own question.
  16. wow, imagine a widespread outage for almost four days.....things must be getting pretty stinky and ugly in those places. Goes to show how we often take for granted things like water supply, electricity, gas, etc. Unless you like things au natural to the extreme (i.e. unwashed), no one will be hanging around the saunas for sure.
  17. Not sure if it would be possible to do, but what would be great would if there was a counter at the chat tab indicating the number of people there (or if anyone was there at any given time). Unless people specifically set up a chat session live at a specific time or something like that, more than likely the chances are people would go into the chat and probably see no one there and then leave. But if while surfing the site one were to see some activity there then others might stop by to say hi. Just an idea.
  18. Well I have to wonder how big it has to be in order to be allowed to stay there. I fear that I may not measure up
  19. I also enjoy apple cider and am looking forward to getting some from a local orchard near me. Never lasts long enough to get hard cider but I might buy some extra for that specific purpose as I would like to try that How long does it take?
  20. He was part of a new show on Bravo called "The People's Couch" that debuted earlier this month http://www.bravotv.com/blogs/the-dish/which-full-house-star-is-on-the-peoples-couch Unfortunately it got canceled after only a couple weeks. http://www.bravotv.com/blogs/the-dish/which-full-house-star-is-on-the-peoples-couch Here's a link to a youtube video of him singing a song he wrote: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XG0OpSRV8NY
