Porto Alegre Shereton hotel Mezzaninu Plataforma Bar Mixx My hat is off to TomCal and all his advice from his posting on PA. Airport to hotel, Very easy, there is a white taxi booth next to airport exit door, and the flat rate is 26R for a no meter run to the Sheraton. (On the return from the Sheraton to airport the return cost was 20R with meter) so for the extra money and first time drive into town, do the flat rate until you get your sea legs. Sheraton Hotel They did their up sale with me. Which was fine for an extra 30 I got the “all the works” upgrade and it did make for a very nice stay. However the high floor, the executive level 15th floor and spa was just gilding the lily and was not really needed. So stay on low floor, pre-pay Internet, and breakfast with your pre booking. Food court in the mall was perfect for lunch, and the street in front of the Sheraton was just as tomcal had said, perfect for food, and a nice walk over a few short blocks. Lots of choices, the ice cream stand is very good, and the sushi place excellent. Taxi to Mezzaninu Was nervous about the first trip, I got a pro taxi, when I showed him the name and street, he said, “of course” must have been tomcals driver… 1st direct drive trip 16R. Other cabs did the same route and some took “the other way” the most expensive was 19.50R Mezzaninu, it is everything you want it to be, clean neat, well laid out, and the shower room-viewing booth is the best show in town. Friday, Saturday was packed, and Sunday was Sunday… Grotos a very nice mix, with lack of steroid bodies, but not to say a lack of hunks w/natural muscles. There was a Go Go boy by the name of Luis, who was amazing, one of the best bar top dancers I have seen in years. His show was an hour-long set. Only wish they had better stage lighting. The dressing room was great! No Grotos are allowed in the area, which I really like, they have their room, and we have our room. The Roof top deck, I did not know there was a roof top bar on the top of the building. Found it on the last night when one of the Grotos took me up for a drink. Plataforma a bust, dirty, smelled, never again... I understand it was THE place to go a few years ago. But its time has passed skip it. Remember to wash your hands after… Bar Mixx, I am glad I goggled the spot and saw street view. Easy to get to, I think it was 13R from Mezzaninu. An old school rough trade bar, but a lot of fun, and yes the Grotos did go from Mezzaninu for a “night cap”. The taxi almost missed it, but the hot pink out side does give it away in a good way. Over all, had a great weekend, it was cold for June, and needed a light jacket for the trip. It never got over 62, it did go down to 40 at night. T

Massage man at 117, Who knew a diamond in the rough? Wednesday night “Hat” or was it Hatay” can never get the names right. The massage man at the club 117, dressed in white, and with a smile on his face…. I was a slow night against the wall at the top of the grand staircase of dreams. I was sight seeing, and he came over to talk… well he whipped out his phone and showed me some self pix, turns out he is also an extra in movies, and does stunt work. Then he showed me his personal video hard and happy. Now why would he have that on his phone? He is 50, with wife and kids, and does massage work and film work. he motor bikes to work Needless to say I booked a massage for the next night. So glad I did, not only did he do it all, it was one of the best back cracking flexing massage I have every had. He asked if I was happy, and I said yes sir. So next time at the club check him out, ask to see his personal video, and then go from there…. i have a 2nd appointment this Tuesday night! T

tomCal, i just read the whole 13 pages of this thread, and thank you for all your information i leave on Friday for first tip to Porto Alegre and i can't wait to put my toe in that pond. things are going very well in rio for the past few days. I meet up with ihpguy and had some great sun and fun on the beach. he is also a master teacher. I wish i could find surfer boy, any links or ideas on how to meet up with him. once again thank you for your tips and pointers, i will write more as a newbie and how porto alegre is for a first timer. i stayed there once in 2000, and never again, its so far out in the county, and away from the action. i now rent an apt near andel station, cheep, and come and go as you want...

ashiker602 can you tell us more about If I do return, Porto Allegre would be first choice. Very little crime and while there is no beach, Mezzanino and other clubs made up for it. Spent three months there in 2009 for work and had great time. i am doing a pop down from Rio for a Thursday to Sunday night, and staying at the sheraton hotel. what else is their to do in Porto Allegre, any tips. ihpguy, how safe is the area around MM. I have done the walk before to the metro, and it is deserted, i am sure the main street now will have more homeless on the side walks i asume from your information above. I trust the main gay Ipanema beach will be fine. I do know the drill, dress, down, no fancy shoes or clothing, T shirts and shorts, leave every thing home in USA that you do not want stolen. and watch your back.... easy enough, but the walk to 117, and MM from metro to sauna have me now worried.

Sheraton hotel to Mezziniu cab? about how much? about how long? will they call a cab for you at the club for your return? or are cabs waiting outside? 3? The Bar down town, Bar Mixx in Porto Alegre, any words for a first timer, also is it walkable to the Sharaton? 4? i was thinking of going down to Porto Alegra from rio on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, back to rio on Monday? is 3 days too long, or should i add another day? thank you for your help, right now i am planing a 26 day trip in June...

so with help from iphy here is the run down on the best nights to go... this is based only on numbers... Tuesday night best night to go, had the most "boys" and free cabins Friday Saturday Thursday Wednesday Sunday monday closed.... last night, and my last night Saturday, had a great fun mix of people. the numbers were good, almost every chair in the back was taken at one point it the patio was SRO drag show was amazing, (if you like this) they had as guest star MIss Rio 2013. i do like friday night when Carla is on, she is comic genius, and her side kick make the team as funny as lucy and ethel.... signing off after a very nice 2 weeks in rio samba time, T

went down to MM last night, I will never go back, the place is in worse shape then a year ago. they have now taken out the sofas in the locker room/TV lounge. now hard benches, the up stairs bar has long benches that are also a pain to sit on. what is that smell, it always smells like wet cats the place was empty, on wednesday night. the boys, none that i would want to even think about. sooooo i went back to 117 same thing the place was empty, but as imphy says it only takes one and he was amazing, a 10 with a perfect body, and a smile that could light up the sky! so glad i the drag show was fun again. so for a wednesday night, 117 wins again

arrived back to rio June 1st hotel atlantico again, can the towels get any thinner... enough said. club 117, still good, i saw faces that have been there over 3 years... some new faces.... and 1 first timer.... drag show carla was on, and her side kick once again mined comic genius. think of ethel and lucy.... great bits. the basement bar is gone, a round bed sits sadly in the middle of the space, no door, not sure what it is used for. the back patio is the place to hang and grab a smoke. Boys as friendly, some aggressive, so wait for you to talk first... the old timers remember my name, I use a famous movie star name when i am here, and they all think its funny, but they do remember the name... the strippers... they have no problems showing their dick in the movie room, or hallways, but on stage, after they drop their speedos they keep their hands over their junk. they love to show the ass, but no goods. one of the strippers before the show, walked around the bar, hard and towel around his neck... today sunday full sun blue sky samba on the beach btw last metro stop is closed for now, makes getting to ipanema beach harder, big foot ball match in town a lot of brits
