I found the 3-star Debret in Copa for 2014REAIS total price. And it is located on the beachfront Avenida Atlantica. Perhaps you need me as your travel agent?

It is really quite something to be part of and experience all that is Rio de Janeiro at this time of the year. Not like anything else on earth

Yesterday on Praca XV - Wall-to-Wall
ihpguy replied to ihpguy's topic in Latin America Men and Destinations
Really was strange to see my local place, where I get off and on the boats with two giant covered stages, sound towers and lighting booths, going with performers and thousands upon thousands of attendees. The Prefeitura has done an incredible job this year with keeping things relatively sane. Everywhere you look there are port-a-potties and considering the 2.2 million on Saturday for Bola Preta, by yesterday at 3PM for the bloco by the Evangelicals of Zona Sul, Avenida Rio Branco was cleaned up of all garbage. All that was needed a one good rain to wash away all of the spilled beer. -
I meant at LEAST a couple of entire bags of the mini-bars. I mean, come on, one bag each of Kit Kats, Snickers, Milky Ways and Almond Joys should give just about anyone a decent sugar high. And why are frozen Snickers such a treat?
-
Oops. Saturday's Cordao de Bola Preta had 2.2 million celebrants. I went once. Enough. Last year, I passed through Cinelandia as it was winding down. Just incredible. At 8AM this morning, it looked like a cyclone had recently passed through Centro and Cinelandia. The roaming Huns, Visigoths and hordes of Mongols had nothing on the current crop of hard-partying Cariocas.

Friday started off with the old-folks on Rio Branco in Centro. Got to keep those artificial hips moving and exercise those pacemakers just a bit I suppose. Then headed up to Santa Teresa on the Largo Dos Guimaraes for the very-fun Bloco Das Carmelitas. Subtitled: Barefoot and on Foot. It is a long story but a Carmelite nun escapes from her convent in Centro, feels barefoot and on foot and heads up to Sant aTeresa. She gets lost on the various ladeiras and only goes back down the hill on Quarta-Cinzas. or Ash Wednesday. Anyway, the bloc starts down the hill, makes a circuitous routing and then there is a token, symbolic trip at the end of the Carnaval to the Carmelite Hospital for Ash Wednesday. In the meantime, it was a fun time with many, many hot guys wearing not much other than wimples. Lots of beer. Also, frozen caipirinha sacoles. Empty, and tossed on the street, looking like nothing other than used condoms oozing the last bits of an enormous load of jizz. Quite gross. Err, quite nice. After, we hit the Desfiles Dos Mirins at the newly-rehabbed Sambodromo. Free entrance...For the arquebancadas. For TotallyOz, the camarotes entries were not gratis. But they looked very nice. Mirins are the junior/youth wings of the major samba schools. Really cute. Quite fun. With the proud parents hooting and hollering for their young Rainhas da Bateria and very svelte Bahiannas. Seeing them samba with their padded boobies and bundas was really trippy. Came back home to find a quaint contest for the best fantasia/costume. Very, very down-to-earth. A local asked me for some coke. As I was drinking from a large bottle. However, he was looking for po/powder in exchange for sex. Not going there, even if he was very hot and with his ass hanging out of a tight speedo. Even ignoring the fact that he was wearing a skimpy dress, eye liner, lipstick and a wig. Yesterday morning's contest was for the best costume made out of toilet paper. Tragic. Quite.

Simple solution: Just by the bags with the Halloween-sized bars and polish off a couple of those. Problem solved.

Public Safety Strike Hits Rio de Janeiro
ihpguy replied to ihpguy's topic in Latin America Men and Destinations
The strike is over. At least for now, the firefighters, civil guard and policia militar are happy with the substantial raises they received about two months ago with the increased salaries phase in over two years. There were a few hundred indictments issued, dozens of arrests and maybe that did the trick. 27 of the strikers are imprisoned in Bangu. The combined strikers had been looking for a base minimum salary of 3500Reais. Not cheap. quote name='axiom2001' timestamp='1329094026' post='52063'] ...depends on who hired him! -
Public Safety Strike Hits Rio de Janeiro
ihpguy replied to ihpguy's topic in Latin America Men and Destinations
In the news this morning, it is reported that police and firefighters in over half the states here have voted to join the strikes. In Rio, over 50,000 are on strike. The 39 percent wage increase negotiated two months ago and agreed to a staggered 3 year process is now not enough. They want more. With Carnval starting, not good. Minimum wage here is more or less 700Reais/month including employer's contribution. Waiters, sales people, cashiers arenĀ“t making much more. So a maid getting 80-100 is a lot. Big differences. And with the police and firefighters having Cabral and Paes by the balls right before the party starts, not promissing. -
Public Safety Strike Hits Rio de Janeiro
ihpguy posted a topic in Latin America Men and Destinations
I just recieved this alert from the US Consulate as a registered US citizen. I have been getting anumber of updates concerning the troubles in Salvador. It is looking like troubles have spread. According to media reports, unions representing various groups of Rio de Janeiro state public safety employees, including the military police, the civil police and the fire fighters, are conducting a work stoppage beginning Friday, February 10. The scope and duration of the strike are not fully clear at this time, but Rio state government authorities are stating there are plans in effect to assure public order and provide essential police and emergency services. What has been going on in Salvador seems to be spreading to Rio and the oil waelth looks like a great place to light another flame. Right now, Rio seems to be at nearly full employment with a very overheated economy. COMLURB is hiring anyone off the street for 850-1000Reais/month. Some of them where I live are really quite derelict. And the experienced cops and firefighters are demanding raises. With many only at 1800-2000/month. It is all a bit crazy. For the past two years, the bank tellers have been striking, I figure this August they are next. Also, the public hospitals are having trouble with staffing levels for MDĀ“s. WeĀ“ll see who is next. There is just the appearance of SO MUCH money being spent everywhere on everything in Rio and everyone wants there peice of it. Right now I am in Foz do Iguacu and it is right back to the old prices. Still, lots of stuff going on with lots of new hotels and rehabs, new streets, etc. Dilma and the socialists have opened the spigot and Brasil seems to be floating on an ocean of oil money. Not just Guanabara Bay. I hope my little corner of heaven stays safe. I have my doubts as a daily maid now demands and gets 80-100Reais/day. And this from my normal Brasilian friends, not just another gringo. -
Meio Mundo has fees for the kit and sheet, if you go to one of the free cabines. One of the nicer, newer rooms, some even have the red cavalos(or horses) go from 15Reais and up. But most are priced at 20Reais and 25 Reais, which does include the kit/lube&condom and lencol/sheet. If it is a night with a well-attended show/bingo with good prizes, they seem to do very well on food and beverage. I was there for some party and they ran out of the prepared dinners quite early, ditto on popcorn. Normally, two or three tables in the American Bar are reserved and those clients/guests seem to consume quite a bit more as they are partying more than looking to hook-up. Lots of ice buckets with towers of iced beers and champagne. The guys pay 10Reais entry. Strippers pay nothing to enter. Normal working guys dancing for their entry. And on the window between the locker room and the entrance desk there is a sign informing the boys of a monthly maintenance fee which is around the middle of the second week of the month. If memory serves, it is about 10Reais. Not sure what this is for. I never remember to ask any of the guys.

This GLEEK was disappointed with the music. Ben made my skin crawl and Wanna Be Startin' drove me to the conclusion that the jumping of the shark is startin'!

Being on the beach here in Rio works for me. Sipping caipirinhas right now from one of my lemon trees. Pleasant breezes.

The Baixada Fluminense, the group of suburbs directly to the north of the Rio de Janeiro border, is jam-packed with lower/lower middle-class residents. And they are ALWAYS in need of money. It seems as if every other garoto I chat with is from "Caxias" and if not there, then Nova Iguacu and Sao Joao de Mereti. Nilopolis and Mesquita too. A past, nonsauna boyfriend from Caxias lived in a home with seven kids, Mom & Dad, in a lot 10 meters by 10 meters. Not much space. Poor. Always looking to get out and get some peace and quiet. Well, Caxias happens to be the fourth most-populace municipality in the metro region with over 800,000. Even more than Niteroi and less than Sao Goncalo's 1,000,000plus. The others are in that 250K to 500K range. So there is a never-ending supply. They call the more nelly adolescents bichas here. So even if a guy is butch, they know who the "Bichas da Rua" are. And they do talk. The guy in my avatar was a street bicha from 14 having sex and graduated at 18 to the saunas. Word gets around on how to make some extra money. And keep in mind that wherever they say they are from, there is a favela nearby. Tijuca/Rio Cumprido/Vila Isabel/Meier all have nearby favelas. A few say Madureira and/or Vila Valkyrie. Favelas there too. Same for the guys who say they live in Copa/Ipa(Pavao/Pavaozinho/Cantagalo), near Leblon/Gavea(Rocinha/Vidigal)etc. It seems that there is indeed a never-ending supply.

Wednesday night, after rush hour at about 8:30PM, the building on 13 de Maio, directly behind the Teatro Municipal collapsed. 20 some stories. It was being rehabbed. This evening on the news, copies of all the necessary permits were shown. There has been mass team coverage on the stations. Lots and lots of interviews. As the building collapsed, it also took out two others as well. 48 hours later, they are still searching the ruins with dogs for survivors and/or bodies. Quite sad. The news has had interviews with family members of some of the hospitalized survivors. There were some frightening filmed images of people fleeing as the dust advanced over them. Memories of 9/11 came over me. Frightening. This evening, eastbound Almirante Barroso and all of 13 de Maio are still closed to traffic. Lots of trucks, cranes, front loaders. And now on top of it all, we have had about 4 hours of non-stop rain that the firefighters have to handle during whatever you might turn the operation.

Like My Mama Always Said - Stupid Is As Stupid Does. err...How many Republican presidential does it take to change a lightbulb? None. They are all so dim-witted than no amount of wattage would help to enlighten their thought processees.

Well, obviously Jeff is the sperm donor. We know that Brian can sing. He''s done more than enough on Broadway. but can Jeff sing or will the autotune be working on the highest setting? I could just see Jeff and Brian in drag on their basement stage doing "We're Just Two Little Girls From Little Rock!" A seminal moment in television.

#1: The episode's title is Yes-No. Emma said yes, so Rachel will say no. The big question is how the producers can keep (all/some) of the seniors on the show #2: Rachel has always been the most goal-oriented character of the bunch. More than Kurt. So... #3: They only have 43 minutes for an episode. And the gave time to Arty and Becky. Something has got to give. #4: They have to vary the Sue Sylvester a bit from week to week or she'll get tired fast. #5: I think the big concern of the producers is that they don't "jump the shark." I keep waiting with baited breath, episode after episode for hints of this. I thought the Pot O'Gold episode was "meh." But then they came back strong with the virginity WestSide-First Time episode, Sappho Santana, Hold Onto 16 and Extraodinary XMas. And now Busby Berkeley. So... #6: I keep on thinking, despite protestation, SPIN-OFF. They have to continue the graduating permanent cast somehow. Or else a do-over with a mass killing like Die-Nasty? name='lurkerspeaks' timestamp='1326908215' post='49757'] In my opinion, it will be decided by whether or not Rachel gets accepted into the school in NYC. The character of Rachel is too focused on being a star to accept the proposal if the celebrity carrot is still dangling in front of her. But if the dream of stardom is squashed for the time being, she could accept Finn's proposal. Of course, she would just be "settling" which will cause issues down the road.

I was on the street here in Rio and a vendor was selling fruits and veggies. I bought 2 trays of beautiful strawberries and next to them were fresh lychees. I've eaten the canned ones, but never out of the peel. Had no clue how to do it. Simple and really good. And I had no clue how large the stone in the center was. When you get them for dessert in the Chinese restaurants they have already been removed. Who knew?

Could GLEE get any gayer this week? Wedding Bell Blues made anyone else pine just one more time for Marilyn McCoo and Florence Larue? Amber and Chord's duet of Summer Lovin' from Grease? Synchronized swimming? Yes, a G-D synchronized swim number starring Mr. Chord Overstreet? A Busby Berkeley-inspired aquatic folly? So, so MGM'ish. Some really wonderfully-scripted bitch slaps? The Bieste eloping with Cooter and Sue settling for David Boreanaz? Fun direction by Eric Stoltz? Emma's acceptance? Rachel's...? The truth about Finn's dead dad? Interesting episode and worth the wait.

Down here I get to see her on the Satellite at 10PM. I can not wait.
