Club 117 Rio-- How the mighty have fallen
mvan1 replied to JAYBLK's topic in Latin America Men and Destinations
I am pleased that you participated. I think you learned a lot to apply to your first trip to Brazil. As to "They are knowledgeable but not welcoming" applies only to a handful of childish and argumentative guttersnipes. It is easy to hide behind an anonymous internet screen. Those who write rude and/or obnoxious things rarely have the guts to say the same to you in person. Those who are not welcoming are easy to spot based on their pattern of negativity. When you learn this about a poster, you ignore them if you cannot discuss an issue without the poster getting hostile. -
Club 117 Rio-- How the mighty have fallen
mvan1 replied to JAYBLK's topic in Latin America Men and Destinations
Each sauna has what is known as "good days" and "bad days." This means that you can never predict the turnout at any sauna on a given day. If you return tomorrow, there is a good chance the sauna will revert to the way you liked it in prior visits. You might have heard the garotos and the clients walking around saying "fraco" which is a word that translates to "weak" but in usage in the saunas means that the sauna is not up to the quantity and/or quality of previous days. Oh, yes, R$55. for that drink in a sauna is high. If you went to a five-star restaurant and ordered that drink, I doubt you would be charged as much. On the other hand, there are different ways to prepare that drink. It is possible that the sauna personnel used better quality ingredients, thus "justifying" the higher price. All in all, for your first trip to Brazil, you seem to be weathering Brazil as a "first timer" fairly well. -
As if the Brazilian economy could not get any worse, Mercedes Benz announced that 2,000 workers are to be let go from its Sao Paulo plant and will join the ranks of the unemployed. http://riotimesonline.com/brazil-news/rio-business/mercedes-benz-plans-2000-more-layoffs-in-sao-paulo-plant/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+TheRioTimes+%28The+Rio+Times%29 There is no question that high unemployment is tragic for any country. In Brazil it means there are many more young guys out of work and many will seek the saunas and the hustling areas of the streets to sustain them until they are back at work. The ancillary "silver lining" is that the saunas and hustling areas are busier now than I have ever seen them in my prior trips here. I feel that in view of the heavy unemployment, more caution is warranted while out-and-about at night considering so many people need money but have no work. This can cause robberies by people who ordinarily would not resort to robbery except for being unemployed and without money. After all, they do have to eat and support their family.

When he began to post, he made the forum more interesting, in my opinion. I looked forward to reading his feigned refreshing outlook (although I did not know it was disingenuous at the time). Then the mask slipped and the real badboy81 became apparent. Maybe that is why he chose his user name to more closely reflect his real self. Bottom line, based on his recent judgemental and hostile posts, I agree with your assessment that he has disdain for his older clients. Nonetheless, I still wish him well.

Duplicate - please delete - Sorry, I am in Brazil and have not yet adjusted to the local time -

Well, that settles the question of the ads being our fellow poster. Knowing that fact makes it understandable why, in a couple of his posts, he mentioned his sexual prowess within the saunas and his physical endowment. At the time I read his posts, I wondered why a client his age would go to Brazil and hire garotos as sex partners and write the things he did. Now that we know that he really is a young good looking guy, with a huge endowment, it makes perfect sense why he wrote about his activities in the saunas. However, his having an astringent personality is not explained by the dual status of client/escort. I wish him well.
-
Thanks for the info and photos. Assuming the photos are of him, I suspect that he will not be happy with what was uncovered and posted here. Even if the ads are his, his real name is not entered in this forum. Had he not written those judgemental and hostile things, AND, included his searchable avatar in his public profile, we would not have been stimulated to perform a search on the avatar. You mentioned that you can easily find an ex client of the guy in the ads. If you do that and if it is determined to be our fellow forum user, I request that you not post anything personal about him here. That would serve no purpose. I think he is already feeling bad enough at what has been posted. If the ads are of our guy, he brought this on himself.
-
Okay, Sherlock Holmes, I want to hire you for some intelligence work I must do for a client. Just kidding. I am impressed that you found and posted the ad. When you read the ad, the wording in the escort's ad has an "attitude" similar to that expressed by the poster, Badboy81. If I cast a vote of yes or no (voting that the ad is the same person as the one who posts here), I vote - yes. Let me also be a detective - the person at adam4adam has another ad on rentboy.com. http://www.rentboy.com/Listing.aspx?lid=990628&type=escort If the photos that show in the rentboy.com ad are current and are really the advertiser, I can see why he regards himself as a handsome stud. If the photos are real and if the arrogant attitude were not there, he could command a large client base.

No one is supposed to tailor their posts in any direction. You should post as you see fit. I realize it is difficult to ignore that improper post. I also realize that the improper post influenced your thoughts about this forum. However, I hope you do not think that others agree with him. This is your first trip to Brazil. Based on the posts you have written, you have had a great time. I hope you continue to enjoy the remaining time of your current Brazil trip and that you will return to Brazil many times in the future.
-
I like your philosophy. I also like the various opinions you expressed on a variety of subjects, including your above response to the post that attempted to stifle things you write. Please continue to post as you have.
-
What an excellent piece of writing. How articulate. How thought provoking and thoughtful, in itself.

Although it is obvious that the garoto is a grown man in the photo, I have no problem with your opinion that the garoto looks 12. It is the other inappropriate comment you made where you wrote that the poster had "a thing for YOUNG boys....very young boys.....Interesting" Your next paragraph does not seem to make sense given the fact that I have never met you nor do I know you. You wrote about an alleged or supposed “awkward outing” in your sentence “And judging by your feedback, I would suspect that you do not look equally as young so that may make an awkward outing OUTSIDE of the sauna....” I have no “awkward outings” when I am in the company of Brazilian garotos, do you? The foregoing sentence you wrote indicates that you have a prejudice against older men visiting Brazil and their company with garotos. A day will come when you are no longer a 28 year old, as you claim to be. Finally, your advice to me “ - read it AGAIN and AGAIN to make sure you were reading correctly.” is something I suggest you do. I can only speculate why you wrote the following: “The photo you chose to post looks like an extremely young boy....” I posted no photo to this forum. The photo was posted by a different forum member in a different post. I cannot imagine what caused you to arrive at that erroneous conclusion. Brazil is for fun. Turn off the hostility and judgement of others.

A very short but nice post. Thanks also for the information concerning a guide. With respect to your missing Salvador, I think that is a recommendation for that city. The majority of visitors to Brazil (Americans and Europeans) generally visit Rio. A lot visit Sao Paulo but not many visit Salvador. During my numerous trips to Brazil, I visited Salvador only a few times and saw the city sites and I visited only one sauna, Sauna Planatario 11. I will have to remedy that deficiency next week.

Guessing an age of 12 from one photo then concluding that the poster has "a thing for YOUNG boys....very young boys.....Interesting" is a little over the top, in my opinion. The ONE photo of the guy clearly shows an Adam's Apple in his neck. I don't know of any 12 year old that has such a large Adam's Apple. Also, his hands, in the photo, are clearly the hands of a man. Furthermore, the garoto would not have been allowed to work in the sauna if he were underage. The sauna owners are very careful checking identification and each sauna owner/employee photocopies the RG (identification) and maintains a copy of it in the offices of the sauna. I have seen the garoto (shown in the photo) from time-to-time in Brazil, a long time ago, somewhere during 2003 - 2005. He was approximately age 20 in the photo. There is a good probability that the garoto has moved on to a different line of work.

Uh, oh! It seems that you agree with the many people who recommended Planetario 11 to me. Like I wrote, they said Planetario 11 was "the only" sauna in Salvador. Just the same, when I go there next week, I will check out Sauna Fox then offer my opinion to the forum. For your first trip to Brazil, you appear to be having a grand time. Considering it is your first trip to Brazil and to Salvador, can you offer an opinion whether having a guide was necessary or merely helpful? If you had maps and plenty of notes, instead of a personal guide, do you think you could have maneuvered through Salvador as easily as you are able to do now?

That was my reaction also until I saw news articles about the ridiculous program. The TSA video is a spoof take-off on the leaked documents of TSA. Here are a couple of paragraphs from one article discussing the procedure: The next time you’re in an airport, you’ll be frozen in fear, touching nothing and no one because according to leaked TSA behavior checklists, basically existing in an airport is enough to get you suspected of terrorism. The Intercept obtained a confidential TSA document that details its terrorism checklist — behaviors that could get you suspected of illegal activity in an airport. The goal is to identify potential terrorists by their suspicious airport behavior, a program know as SPOT (Screening of Passengers by Observation Techniques). Officers are supposed to assign point values to your specific behaviors. Too many points and you’re getting cavity searched in the back. Among the things that could earn you possible points are “exaggerated yawning”, “throat clearing” and “arriving late for a flight.” Signs of deception include blinking quickly and covering your “mouth with hand when speaking.” If you’re not already paranoid about your normal actions being misconstrued as diabolical plotting, don’t forget that “paranoia” is also on the checklist. No emotion is safe! Here is one full article: http://blog.sfgate.com/hottopics/2015/04/17/tsas-secret-terrorist-behavior-checklist-leaked-and-its-insane/ And another article along the same lines: http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/federal-eye/wp/2015/03/31/heres-tsas-secretive-list-of-suspicious-behaviors/ Hugh Handeyside, a staff attorney with the ACLU’s National Security Project, said Monday that the checklist “drives home the absurdity” of the behavior-detection program. “Airports are rich environments for the kind of stress, exhaustion, or confusion that the TSA apparently finds suspicious, and research has long made clear that trying to judge people’s intentions based on supposed indicators as subjective or commonplace as these just doesn’t work,” Handeyside said in a statement. TSA defended the program in a statement on Tuesday, stressing that "no one single behavior alone will cause a traveler to be referred to additional screening or result in a call to a law-enforcement officer." -
-
More nonsense coming to the airports. Now TSA personnel are given "courses" and other "training" to "detect" a possible terrorist. If selected by a TSA officer for extra screening, who knows what more foolishness you will face merely because you want to travel. Wouldn't it be great if we all could take a short behavioral course and know who is likely to be a criminal or worse? Here is the most recent TSA video: Actually, the video is funny and it has a lot of gay overtones.

Sauna Fox vs Planetario 11 in Salvador, Bahia
mvan1 replied to JAYBLK's topic in Latin America Men and Destinations
Just as you previously did, you wrote another great report. Among other things, you wrote that you liked Sauna Fox. I never went there because I was told by so many people that Planetario 11 is the "only" sauna to visit in Salvador. I enjoyed my times at Planetario 11. I will have to check out Sauna Fox next time I am in Salvador, later this month. Thanks again. -
You paid R$400 for three hours with three men. Such a bargain. At the current exchange rate, that is equal to (U.S.) $124.60 total. Where else in the world could you replicate that? Thanks for the interesting report. If you find some free time, you might want to consider checking out this hotel owned by two gay guys from France - HOTEL CASA DO AMARELINDO - Rua das Portas do Carmo, 06 | Pelourinho, Salvador (Historic area of Salavador) I hope you continue to enjoy Salvador.

What a splendid documentary. Young people (young gays, particularly) cannot possibly relate to what was done to the gay community only one generation ago. That documentary will help many realize some of the horrors that gays had to face, until the past couple of decades. Some of the horrors remain. Although the documentary briefly mentioned that President Reagan and other politicians offered no government help during the AIDS crisis, the documentary should have included at least a portion of some of the hateful things said by the Reagan clan to justify their doing nothing about AIDS. Following are but a couple of remarks that supposedly justified the U.S. Government ignoring AIDS and not funding research for finding a cure for it: Jerry Falwell, a major supporter of Reagan and a source of millions of dollars of campaign funds said - "AIDS is the wrath of God upon homosexuals." Reagan's communications director Pat Buchanan said that AIDS is "nature's revenge on gay men." Thanks for posting that link to the documentary.

Good news for Americans visiting in Brazil ($)
mvan1 replied to mvan1's topic in Latin America Men and Destinations
Most travelers to Brazil do not keep track of the rates because the rate changes are beyond our control. They are what they are. I know that I, and most of my traveling companions, are often surprised when the exchange rates change as drastically as they have during the past few months. Over the years, many of us have seen the exchange rates drop to around 1.60 to the dollar. The current exchange rate is 100% greater than we have seen it in the past. When rates continue on an upward trend, as they have this year, it is nice to be reminded of that fact. Perhaps you do not travel to Brazil as often as many of us and, therefore, you follow the rate changes more often. -
The many troubles in Brazil have a silver lining, somewhere along the way. That way is in the form of a favorable exchange rate for Americans (and certain other foreigners). Check out this article: http://riotimesonline.com/brazil-news/rio-business/brazil-real-falls-to-r3-20-in-lowest-exchange-to-dollar-since-may/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+TheRioTimes+%28The+Rio+Times%29

"Clever" way to steal $50 from the unsuspecting - Backpage
mvan1 replied to mvan1's topic in The Beer Bar
Something is rotten in Denmark - Guy in Australia - age 35 http://www.modelmayhem.com/787653 Click on the above site to see the photos and stats of the 35-year-old Australia guy Then click on the below site to see the photos and description of a supposed escort shown on the new escort site named Keven, age 22: http://maximumeliteescorts.com/kevin/ The photos are of the same person and the photos are more than a decade old. Not only that, there is a thirteen-year difference in ages between the written description of the two escorts. There is also half a world away difference (Australia versus United States) plus a difference in Nationality and race. Check out the other escorts on the new agency. More than half the photos appear in other sites in different parts of the world. I am all for a new agency and think the idea of a new agency is great. However, this “agency” does not appear legitimate because of the major contradictions in the photos of the supposed escorts and their attributes. -
The first link below will take you to a "new" escort site. The second link will take you to an employment offer to escorts for the same agency shown in the first link. At the first link, supposedly, clients can select an escort from the escorts shown on display on the site. The rates for escorts is equal to or below the normal rate for escorts in similar areas ($250 hourly). The catch is, the client must authorize the agency to charge his credit card $50.00 to make an appointment with one of the escorts shown on the site (how clever of the site people). Of course, there is no guaranty that the escorts will show up. You merely get an appointment that may or may not materialize. If you do a Google image search of the small quantity of "escorts" shown on the site, two of them are currently located in the U.K. even though the site says they are located in the U.S. (not so clever of the site people). The second link below shows that on Backpage, there is another advertisement offering employment for escorts for this same company. Among other things, the ad tells prospect escorts, "you will make in the six figures working with us" which might sound enticing to prospective escorts. However, to make the "six figures" income, the escort would have to engage 533 clients in a year. That is a lot of clients. Furthermore, the so-called employment application does not meet even the most basic requirements of employer/employee agreements. If the ad is real, labor commissioners in the U.S. will be having lots of work to do in the future if an escort complains. The first link, below, is the site that asks for $50.00 to book. The second link is for "escorts" at apply for employment with the agency. http://maximumeliteescorts.com/la-escorts/ http://losangeles.backpage.com/AdultJobs/maximum-elite-escorts-is-looking-for-elite-companions-to-join-our-company-32/42969467

Fond memories of Estacao and Pointe 202! Thanks for mentioning them above. I remember those saunas well. I am still in contact with two garotos who used to work at Pointe 202 in 2003 and 2004. They are a bit older but they still look good. Both have gone out of the sauna business. One still has a "day-time" job but the other got laid off in the recent recession hitting Brazil.
