Who would have guessed the handsome 22 year old Brazilian military soldier shown on the left side, with the passage of time, would turn into the hateful bigot shown on the right side of the page, known as Bolsonaro, the next president of Brazil! Times are a changing - as the proverb goes -
-
The Advocate has called Bolsonaro "Brazil's biggest homophobe".[100] In a June 2011, interview with Playboy, Bolsonaro said that "I would be incapable of loving a gay son," and added that he would prefer any son of his "to die in an accident..."[101] In the same interview, Bolsonaro went on to say that if a gay couple moved in next door to him, it would lower the market value of his house. In an 2011 interview with Jornal de Notícias, Bolsonaro linked homosexuality to pedophilia, claiming that "many of the children who are adopted by gay couples will be abused by these couples." He further argued that Brazil does not need legislation specifically targeting homophobia, because "most homosexuals are murdered by their respective pimps at hours when good citizens are already asleep."[103] In a May 2002 interview with the Folha de S.Paulo, Bolsonaro told the newspaper, "If I see two men kissing in the street, I will beat them." He then publicly defended beating gay children by saying: "If your child starts to become like that, a little gay, you take a whip and you change their behavior."[104] On November 9, 2017, the Court of Justice for the State of Rio de Janeiro sentenced Bolsonaro to pay a fine of $150,000 reais for hate speech because of televised comments he made in 2011 to the CQC TV program, when Bolsonaro stated that "there is no risk" of his family producing a homosexual child because his children had a "good education". Judge Luciana Teixeira said that the deputy had abused his right of free expression to commit a wrongful act. "You can not deliberately attack and humiliate, ignoring the principles of equality, just because you invoke freedom of expression," said the judge.[105] Birth control for the poor Bolsonaro provoked considerable controversy for public remarks made in July 2008, when he appeared to advocate the sterilization of poor people, who he suggested might be too uneducated to understand family planning education: "It is no good talking about education because most of these people are not prepared to receive education and will not educate themselves. Only birth control can save us from chaos," he said.[106][107][108] If this madman becomes the president of Brazil, Brazil as we from this forum know it, will become a mere memory of some wonderful bygone times.

Time magazine, a respected source of news and information, wrote the following about Bolsonaro: "Like Trump, he has pledged to withdraw his country from the Paris Agreement on climate change. He plans to loosen gun control laws and give already trigger-happy police further impunity to kill." "There Is a Risk to Democracy.' Brazil Wakes Up to the Reality of a Bolsonaro Presidency" The entire article can be read here: http://time.com/5418582/brazil-bolsonaro-election-first-round/

After I furnished information (above) about Vienna, including information about Kaiserbrundl, the person who started this thread, and who asked the questions, never acknowledged my answers nor did he bother to say - thanks - for the information- Many of us who travel a lot are happy to share information about places we visit. However, when our efforts are not acknowledged, we have a tendency to ignore future requests from people who lack basic civility. Considering that you are not the original person who asked the question and did not acknowledge my answers, I will give you information about Kaiserbrundl, as you requested. Prior to expanding on Kaiserbrundl, I want to be sure that you understand where Kaiserbrundl is located. In your post you wrote "Any further advice on how the Kaiserbrundl works for hiring hustlers? I've been to the saunas in Madrid and Barcelona (but alas never been to Brasil). Kaiserbrundl is not in Brazil, it is in Vienna, Austria. In May of this year, I was in Kaiserbrundl because a friend asked me to accompany him there as he was too timid to go alone. I do not like the place but I went and stayed to keep my friend company. In response to whether the guys (hustlers) approach clients, I have to say - it depends on you and on luck. There is quite a variety of hustlers in that sauna. Some are Latino while some are Austrian and German and from other parts of Europe. Unfortunately, there are many Romanians in the sauna. They give the sauna a bad name. They are pushy and sometimes follow clients around the sauna repeatedly asking for money and drinks or food. If you take one up on an offer, do not take them out of the sauna to your hotel. You stand a good chance of getting robbed if you take one to your hotel. You are safer getting together with hustlers at the sauna. If you ignore the negative aspects of the sauna, the interior of the building is quite nice and has a great amount of history. There is also a restaurant that is used by sauna users and by the public even though the public are not using the sauna when using the restaurant. As I am accustomed to saunas in Brazil and Spain, I am spoiled for quality. There is no way that Kaiserbrundl is as nice as Brazilian saunas or Thermas in Barcelona or Adan, in Madrid (Adan, marginal quality). It also depends on the type of hustler you like. In Kaiserbrundl, most of the hustlers are too pasty white for my likes. I used to visit the sauna in Zurich (Paragonya) but I stopped visiting there a few years ago because I did not like the quality of available hustlers. However, there are recent posts in this forum that say the Zurich sauna is currently a pleasant sauna again. Sorry not to be more encouraging about Kaiserbrundl. Please realize, just because I do not care for Kaiserbrundl, it does not mean that you will not like it. We all have different likes and dislikes. As I wrote in my original post above, if the weather is not cold or rainy, you can meet hustlers in Stadtpark between the Hilton and Intercontinenal hotels. Those hotels are tall and are about one mile apart and can easily be seen once you enter Stadtpark. I also suggested looking on the website hunqz.com for a Vienna hustler. You have to join and get a membership to access the ads on the site. There is no charge to open a membership. I think you said you had not been to a sauna in Brazil. If you use the hunqz.com site, there are usually many Brazilians in Vienna advertising on that site. For a while, the site made it difficult to find hustlers for Vienna. The site has since been upgraded and finding Vienna hustlers is easy. Have a wonderful time in Vienna.

The Brazilians had an election today. It is now past midnight in Brazil. More than 94% of the votes have been counted. This bigoted "candidate" received almost 47 % of the counted votes. His closest rival received only 28% - therefore, there is a high probability that this bigot will be Brazil's next president come the run-off election on October 28th. If he is elected, we who visit Brazil may soon find many negative changes. Considering his open hatred of gays, I am wondering if it will be safe to continue visiting Brazil in the future if this hateful bigot wins the presidency. Check out this interview with the bigot and listen to the below link regarding his thoughts about gays (in the below linked interview, he says - Brazilians do not like homosexuals): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o3ZBeX9uC8s Also - cited for "hate" speech in Brazil (blacks, gays, women and indigenous - targeted) https://www.nytimes.com/2018/04/14/world/americas/brazil-president-candidate-hate.html And, he does not like foreigners (tourists?) Here is a screen shot of his CV - Profile Who is Jair Bolsonaro? Hide Biography Born in Glicéro in São Paulo in 1955 to parents of Italian descent, he served in the army from 1971 until 1988, when he was elected as a city councillor in Rio de Janeiro for the Christian Democratic party. In 1990, he became a federal congressman for the same party. He has since been affiliated with a number of political parties. On 22 July, he was officially nominated as the presidential candidate of the Social Liberal party. Policies Bolsonaro espouses populist and nationalist views that often stray into far-right territory. A vocal opponent of same-sex marriage, abortion, immigration and other progressive causes, he has defended the death penalty and the 1964-85 military dictatorship. On foreign policy, he has said he wants to improve relations with the US. Economically he says he is pro free market and privatisation. Political style Deliberately provocative and polarising. He has praised Gen Pinochet, expressed support for torturers and called for political opponents to be shot, earning him the label of "the most misogynistic, hateful elected official in the democratic world”. In his bid to capitalise on Latin America’s lurch to the right, he paints himself as a tropical Donald Trump: a pro-gun, anti-establishment crusader set on "draining the swamp" and cracking down on violent crime. Controversies On top of repeated calls for a return to dictatorship, he has made equally inflammatory attacks on women, black people, gay people, foreigners and indigenous communities. Earlier this year, he was charged by the attorney general with inciting hate speech. Support and election prospects Bolsonaro has a devout following among some conservative voters, who admire his promises to get tough on rampant violent crime, and he is likely to progress to the second round of the vote. Bad news: Bolsonaro will win the elections

Funny you mentioned that about priests. During my visits to that sauna I used to talk with some of the clients I saw there who were there on a regular basis. One client (who will go unnamed because he still goes to Lagoa) used to be a regular at that sauna. He was usually there when I arrived and stayed after I left. He is a priest but he was not a priest at that new church across the street that caused the sauna to close. -

Edit to my above post: After reading the response of sanddunes wherein he noted the 2007 date (year) from the newspaper article. I went back and read the old article. I knew the sauna had been around long before I began visiting Brazil. I heard the sauna had been in existence about 20 years at the time it closed. However, going back to the article, it says the sauna had been in existence for thirty-seven years. My goodness, Brazil's dictatorship ended in 1985 which means the sauna was in existence many years while Brazil was ruled by the military dictatorship. I wonder how many military guys used to go to that sauna. -

That sauna used to be more fun than Lagoa. It was competition to Lagoa on certain days of the week. It had been in business more than twenty years when it closed. A church was built directly across the street from the sauna. That made the church people mad. Can you imagine the reaction from the church goers at seeing dozens of garotos and clients going into and out all day knowing what the place is? That sauna used to bring in at least 50 garotos on Saturdays and Sundays during the day. The sauna was also open during the week but less busy. -
Muito bonito - muito! Congratulations to the photographer - job well done - subject model excellent

We can thank Trump and his blond bimbo appointee, Kirstjen M. Nielsen, for shutting down the FOI on this foolish law. That bimbo is currently, Head of Homeland Security. Unless the letter you received is an error, it looks like I and my friend got our requests in before Nielsen, put a stop to releasing this type information. She is the idiot, along with Jeff Sessions, who also decided to separate children from their parents when they reached the U.S. border seeking asylum. It is odd that the Department of Homeland Security has not updated its web page related to its "watch list" whereon they invite passengers who have been detained or have been subjected to excessive screening (harassed by TSA at an airport) to contact them. Check out this page that will soon likely be removed. https://www.dhs.gov/dhs-trip -
I believe you are correct. I checked only two garotos out of many listed. After the second garoto's add came back with an automated message, I assumed they were all working for an agency. A sample of two out of many was not enough. In my case, my sample just happened to be 100% automated which led me to an incorrect conclusion. It is nice to know that the site offers real garotos and an alternative to the saunas.

There are a lot of nice looking photos at that site. The not so good part of the pretty pictures is that the site is an escort agency- The site shows lots of garotos along with different telephone numbers. When you contact the number through whatsapp, regardless of the number, the site immediately sends a text on whatsapp. The messages are similar but does describe the particular garoto whose number is listed in the ad. It seems going to the saunas is a lot easier than meeting someone through this agency. Below is a sample of one such message I received by answering an advertisement .

I know Vienna quite well. I visit there fairly often. Most of my foreign travels are to Brazil but Vienna is my second choice of destinations. I have been to Vienna three times this year. The gay scene in Vienna is not obvious and there is not as much fun as there is in Brazil. If you want to meet a guy, you are better off using the web site hunqz.com - You need to open an account. There is a section about Vienna with many hustlers available. There are no hustler bars anymore. The last one closed a few years ago and it was not very good. There is a gay sauna that has a sign at the inside entrance that says prostitution is prohibited but no one pays any attention to that sign. The name of the sauna is Kaiser Brundl - I personally do not care for this sauna. However, it is so unique, it might be worth a visit. The building has a lot of history. The sauna is near St Stephans church which is impossible to miss. Check out this link for some reviews. Although many of the reviews are in German and other languages, there are some reviews in English: https://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g190454-d2397805-r117698241-Kaiserbruendl_Herrensauna-Vienna.html It will be cold in Vienna when you visit there in late November. Therefore, the Stadt Park cruising areas will most likely be empty or very slim pickings. As usual, be careful of Romanians who make eye contact with guys walking alone then pursue you pretending to be hustling only to rip you off. If this is your first trip to Vienna, you might want to see the sights. Vienna is an old beautiful city with lots of history. It it extremely safe in Vienna. I often walk to Kartner Strasse even at midnight and find that street filled with tourists at that hour. Since I don't not know your interests, it is not possible for me to recommend places you might enjoy seeing.

New sauna with garotos opened last night in Sao Paulo
mvan1 replied to mvan1's topic in Latin America Men and Destinations
"One reported back that the guys there are twinks similar to what is found in Rio at Meio Mundo. This friend said he thinks the place will not last long and that he has no plans to return." Above is the sentence in my previous post reporting a comment made by one of my friends who went to the opening of the new sauna. According to you, I am "missing the point" because I do not agree that my friend is pessimistic and that he made a prediction! Using simple English, my friend merely expressed his opinion about the new sauna (that he did not like it and that he thought it would not last long). My friend is Brazilian and has lived most of his life in Sao Paulo. He has seen many saunas come and go. If he tells me HE THINKS that a place will not last long, I certainly would not attack him and call him a pessimist and a predictor merely because he expressed his learned opinion that is based on experience over many years. Again, my friend did not PREDICT the failure of the sauna. He did not like the sauna. He will not return and he thinks the sauna will not remain is business for long. Opinions such as he expressed are not a PREDICTION. He expressed his OPINION. Considering the strange and unhinged responses to my good-faith offering of information about a new sauna in Brazil, I now regret even sharing the information. "Your friend has done both. We have no issue with him not liking a place. We were just surprised he can predict the future." I find it hilarious that one of the two hecklers about the new sauna admits to never having been to a sauna in Brazil. -

I won't comment on your snarky remark about my reading my own posts. You really like to keep harmony in this forum, don't you! I think not. How many Brazilian saunas have you seen open and close because of unknown reasons. Probably none, right? Those of us who have visited Brazil for years have seen many saunas open then suddenly close for no apparent reason. -

"After one single visit" - How many times would you need to have someone feed you a bad meal before you decide you don't like a restaurant? Or, how many times do you need to try a particular sport or musical instrument or see a movie before you decide you do not like them? 10 times? 20 times? 100 times? My friend is not a pessimistic. Unlike you, he has been to many Brazilian saunas and he is Brazilian. He made a fair evaluation of the new sauna despite your not being there or your being part of his evaluation. -

My friend is not pessimistic. He went to the new sauna and gave me his opinion of the place. Because he does not like the sauna, it makes him a pessimist in your eyes? Very strange! How many Brazilian saunas have you seen open and close? I and my friends, plus many people on this forum, have seen Brazilian saunas come and go - One does not need to be a pessimist to fairly evaluate an establishment. -

It will be nice to get another opinion of the place. Three different Brazilian friends went there on opening night. Two reported back to me that they had a good time and will return. One reported back that the guys there are twinks similar to what is found in Rio at Meio Mundo. This friend said he thinks the place will not last long and that he has no plans to return. Isn't it great that we all like different things and have different opinions?
