  1. I'm trying to picture a teen boy with the nerve to actually carry one of those mags to the counter and buy it. Nope, can't do it.
  2. I bet you guys have a lifetime subscriptions to Teen/Tiger Beat.
  3. This is so cool. I've noticed that a lot of Derp cartoons were floating around on the net. This kind of explains why. Thanks for posting this, AS.
  4. Sadly, there's a lot of truth to that, Sucky. I kind of lost touch with the young people once my Nehru jacket went out of style.
  5. Sucky watches Kardas Sucky watches the Kardashians! Sucky watches the Kardashians! Because he thinks they might have something important to say!
  6. Bless you, RA1, don't be telling them nancy boys all my little secrets.
  7. A good roofie would be your best bet, IMHO.
  8. Is that you, AdamSmith?
  9. Charlie, for the past few years I have gotten both pleasure and value from your posts, so don't be too quick about selling your contribution to the lives of others short. But your larger point put my own uneasiness with Emanuel's article into better focus. Our dominant culture tends to view everything through a prism of economic value. There's something about being alive that is intrinsically valuable and that something has little to do with the market place. ---- Reading this post over for spelling (screw you, AS), I just realized that the first sentence above turns on an economic metaphor embedded in our language.
  10. For those of you who, like me, lack Adam's encyclopedic knowledge of all things literary: "The Cumaean Sybil, a prophetess, asked Apollo for eternal life and he granted the boon. In a classic “careful what you wish for” trope, Apollo did not give the Sybil eternal youth, however. (Zeus much earlier played the same trick on Tithonus, lover of Eos, the dawn.) The Sybil aged and became more decrepit and tinier until the disrespectful people of Cumae suspended her in a basket in a public place. At the end of a thousand years, there was nothing left but her voice. "In Chapter 48 of the “Satyricon” of Petronius Arbiter, a boastful freedman named Trimalchio reports having seen her hanging in her basket. When the local boys asked, “Sybil, what do you want?” she replied: “I want to die.” The whole point of such cautionary tales is that no matter how clever and through and painstaking one's wish may be, there's always a teensy tiny little crack for the gods to wriggle though and fuck over an over-reaching human.
  11. Nurse's aide leans in close over AdamSmith, smiles sweetly and whispers, "Bitch, you complain about those dirty Depends again and I'll pinch you 'till you scream yourself hoarse." Twists one of his half dollar sized bed sores just to emphasize her point. Reflect on that synthesis, Darling.
  12. Great idea and great carry through. Take a bow, Lurker. You earned it.
  13. If you're planning to run the kind of paternity test Maury uses, you'd need to dig up Diana and take a sample or two. Of course if you're willing to pony up for a full blown mapping of their Y chromosomes, have at it.
  14. Hmm...you think? William & Charles Harry & James ==== But as I said last time this came up, Charles, William and Harry don't seem to give a shit so no harm, no foul. Besides the Queen seems equally fond of both her grandsons so again (taking into account that Harry will soon be 3 removes from the direct line of succession) no harm, no foul. ==== Personally I find his face attractive & masculine but such things are largely a matter of taste in my experience.
  15. Not to go all Hito on you, but I rather hope that it is. I mean, good Lord, that thing isn't even full on hard yet.
  16. The latest studies indicate that the Amazon rain forest is CO2 (& O2) neutral. Plants respire about as much CO2 & suck up as much O2 at night as they absorb/give off during daylight. Makes sense when you think about it...otherwise by now carbon compounds would be heaped up thousands of feet deep everywhere there's a rain forest. Turns out the real O2 contribution by the Amazon is in the flood of nutrients it pushes out into the South Atlantic. This causes an enormous plankton bloom that both liberates huge quantities of O2 and serves as one of the largest carbon sinks on the planet as the green stuff and the little critters that feed on it die and sink down to the abysmal ooze. Of course, chopping down the forest ='s a large release of carbon but that's a one off thing. Ain't science great?
  17. On the other hand, no doubt complaining about complaining works wonders.
  18. It's such an honor just to be nominated! I want to take this opportunity to thank all my loyal fans without whom none of this would have been possible.
  19. LOL. JOAN would have attended the general's funeral. But only if it featured lots of cameras and a red carpet.
  20. When it involves close kin, most of us seem naturally inclined (or at least easily persuaded) to help out even when it involves a degree of trouble &/or danger. (Even if it is for that idiot fuck up of a nephew ). The real trick is in conning ourselves into doing something similar for total strangers.
