I recall when I thought folks with remotes were terminally lazy. Then I got one (came w/set) and now I spend 10 minutes hunting for the remote rather than manually adjust the sound.

I had forgotten Lamb Chops voice. Probably I was blocking the memory because I hated her voice too. Couldn't switch the channel though 'cause we only got one station in my town. And turning off the TV wasn't an option in my family.

Try out the Google 'images' button, TY. The trick is in framing the right search term; the thinking of the folks tagging the pix doesn't always gee-haw with the way my own brain works. Be patient and persistant. The diff in impact between the right pic and and an almost right pic can make or break the post. Credit Lookin with pioneering the art form. He was pulling it off beautifully even before goggle took most of the effort out of it. ---- Try it out yourself. It's become my favorite form for posting. Not to interrupt, but speaking of struggling, there I was trying to answer Lookin's post, but first I had to goggle "chazerai," which was all well and good and interesting but then I had to image google "chazerai" which showed nothing worth a post but led to jewish joke sites (well that's what happened;I'm just reporting here) which were ok especially some funny fake proverbs but I couldn't really appreciate all of those because of the insider Yiddish vocabulary, so then it was on to the yiddish dictionary sites which were a world unto themselves and then back and forth and back and forth and finally 75 minutes later I'm back at MER and still have to finish this post. Feh! ---- Now I've forgotten what I was going to say. One of the perils of low blood oxygen, you forget things... Oh, yeah, look, Lookin, next time you slip in a word like "chazerai," do like those fancy sites do and put it in the form of a link to a dictionary definition so I won't be tempted into wandering off into cyberspace and getting lost for over an hour. Be a mensch about it and make that extra effort. Whoa, slow down there big boy! I've got my rep to consider. The operative word is "opportunity." Matrix, I probably should leave this well enough alone, but Grandma always said her yard dog had more common sense than I did and I've spent a lifetime living up to her assessment. I tried out a good 1/2 dozen jokey approaches to this reply but none seemed right in the circumstances. I worked hard on a serious response to your post, but found I did not have the writing skills to pull it off with any degree of candor w/o ginning up further hard feelings and that is not my aim here. So the following will have to suffice: It was not my intent to create hard feelings between us. Some folks like a bit of teasing and take it as an opportunity to top the initiator (see my exchange with the Duchess on the other board). Some are indifferent and others are offended by it. For various reasons I took you for the teasing type. In that I was mistaken. Ty, I honestly think way too much of the stimulus money went to propping up unsustainable state and local spending in disfunctional places like Cali and NY. Did Cali or NY or Illinois and the like use that grace period productively to deal with their problems or did they just push hard decisions off one more year? This may sound strange coming from a lifelong liberal Dem like me, but I'm sick of folks who measure progress on social problems by how much money is lavished out on public bureaucracies. Some of my fellow Dems make Tea Party types look responsible.

"[DeMint's] group first took aim at Senator Arlen Specter, a Pennsylvania Republican who often voted with Democrats. DeMint endorsed Specter's primary opponent, Pat Toomey, a former congressman known as a tax-cutter and fiscal hawk. Specter left the Republican Party a few days later to run as a Democrat, and lost. "That victory emboldened DeMint to take on more of the Republican Establishment, starting with Florida Governor Charlie Crist, a moderate seeking a U.S. Senate seat. DeMint raised hundreds of thousands of dollars to promote the former state speaker, Marco Rubio. In April, as polls showed Rubio running away with the race, Crist left the party. "Republicans would not have the wind at our backs if we stood up for candidates like Arlen Specter and Charlie Crist," DeMint says. The only reason the Dem Party will survive here is we hold state and local races in off years from national elections. It's that bad.

An interesting point came up on Charlie Rose tonight. One conservative analyst says the Tea Party movement may be a big bonus for the Republicans this November but will make it extremely difficult for the GOP to do the work of a governing party if it takes power. His point was that the movement is so adamantly anti-spending that the Republicans will find it hard to vote forward a realistic budget. It's not so much the possible numbers of actual tea party identified candidates who may be elected as that the movement has put the Fear of God into party regulars by challenging incumbants in primaries with well financed "crazies" and have ended the careers of more than a few. Most of the pols who have gone down say they were demonized for voting for necessary funding bills. The Partiers apparently aren't willing to accept "compromise" votes on spending issues. It's one thing to run on a slogan of cutting spending; it another thing altogether to have to actually chop the budget to pieces. For a couple of generations Republicans have run one way and governed another. This analyst at least was saying that option may not be open to them come January. The professional pols of the GOP may be too terrified of grassroots activists back home that are actually keeping tract of what the pols get up to in Washington and have the proven capacity to put boots on the ground and flood local TV with attack ads if they stray from the straight and narrow. Well, as Matrix said, "Better them than us." And as I said, "Yeah, but..."

The Klan/nativist movement got quite frisky in the teens and 20's, yes? Red Scare in the late 40's & 50's? Civil war inside the Demo party from '68 to '72? Ever so often Americans grab their pitchforks and torches and get it on. Just part of who we are. With them and us living in the same boarding house, the rukus over who holds the remote should get interesting.
