Great .PDF summarizing the bill and the problems with it. R41911.pdf

If you've been under a rock on the Internet and not heard, the US government is moving ever-towards being nothing but corporate toadies, next week it's a bill that would have grave repercussions for the Internet (worldwide!) and this forum in particular. Entire sites would be shut down or formidably taken off the Internet (via DNS blocking) if they failed to kowtow to any and all copyright notifications immediately and without reasonable opportunity for question or appeal. It is basically a bunch of media corporations pulling a "recording industry", trying to enact/enforce crippling laws instead of keeping up with the times, to their eventual doom. But in the meantime we Americans could have to learn ways around internet censorship common to those who live in places like China, Syria, and Iran. Now sure, there are some provisions in the bill as it currently stands that leave a fair number of loopholes, but that's the point. Anybody saying "oh, well, it's OK because there's a exemption for X", what will you do in a year or two when a rider buried deep within a defense spending bill or something reads "delete provision 45 sub c from the the Protect IP Act / SOPA"? NOW is the time to make a stand! And don't assume your liberal senator / congressperson is on the right side of the issue!!! In California, Feinstein is of course carrying the corporate water, but BOXER is on the wrong side TOO! Even Franken, who I otherwise support 110% needs people to tell him he's wrong on this one. It takes less than 5 minutes to call your senators. And you'll feel better about it every time you come across a black "STOP INTERNET CENSORSHIP!" page today! I've seen an ad online (mostly on gay websites) for an MGM property in Vegas that touts the spa/sauna with one hot guy looking towards another... surprisingly provocative, I wouldn't think any resort would encourage stuff like that to go on...

I watched the first season or two of the UK version, have been so sick of vampires and werewolves I didn't even make it through one episode of the US version. It's actually good?

It, (and season 1) are easily downloaded...

I got to see her in person about 6 months ago, she has the kinda typical rich white woman of Los Angeles look about her, especially as they age. Gaunt, loose skin. But surprisingly down to earth, and you have to be almost anorexic to look good on camera, sadly. I've seen skinnier.

I still need to see several movies to have any opinion on that facet of awards season, but the TV stuff is pretty agreeable... I really liked Homeland and Danes did a great job, and I fucking loved Idris Elba in both seasons of Luther so far. And Dinklage, steals the show just like Tyrion stole the books. Anybody watching Boss? Sounds interesting. I still need to see Downtown Abbey as well.

Just finished watching... http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1475582/ I can never get enough of Sherlock Holmes for some reason. I like the recent movies; didn't think anybody could outdo Jeremy Brett's performance of the role; but the new, modern Sherlock played by Benedict Cumberbatch is damn near perfect as well. There's a cool-ass rumor that Cumberbatch may play Kahn in the second new Star Trek...

Do you like gladiator movies, Billy?

Doesn't matter--I assumed you slept in a dark room. The exposure to the bright white light all evening (before bed) supposedly keeps your body from realizing it's evening.

Wow, I have almost no use for newspapers. Though I did get a pre-paid mailer from WSJ I saved to send back a full page that says just FUCK RUPERT MURDOCK on it. Now that I think of it, I wouldn't mind flipping through an LA Weekly to see if there were any events/concerts I was interested in. Websites though, Gizmodo and lately Reddit. Occasionally Talking Points Memo, when I want to despair for the future of our country, which has a lot of newspaper links I suppose.

One other possibility are your computing habits, you probably derp around on the internet 'till late at night and when you can't sleep you get back on, I'm guessing? The light from the monitor and the color temperature of the light can supposedly throw off your cycles. This free software is supposed to help with that (and the eyestrain), I've tried it even though I don't have much of a problem. So maybe try that and dim your monitor. Also try exposing yourself to lots of bright light in the mornings.

Wow, somebody has already immortalized the top 4 Republican primary contenders!

I never want to say never, but my gut reaction is OH FUCK NO!!! First, Lucas has already gotten too much of money for this crap. Certainly the originals are better, but he's already fucked them up pretty bad and will probably alter them even more for this. Second, I hate post-processed 3D. The only 3D worth paying to see was shot that way, in my experience. Even then, it's usually:

I pretty much detest that kind of press coverage and believe anybody who would form an opinion without having sat through every minute of evidence the jury hears is generally a blowhard know-nothing ass hat (esp. in the picture above, she should be disbarred). This case sounds a lot more obvious than most, but on the other hand the time and coverage spent on Missing White Girl of the week could and should go to covering so many things critically important to our nation and planet. ESPECIALLY ON HEADLINE FUCKING NEWS!

My god, it's a human Ken doll!

That black bun is creepy looking. God, there's a whole generation (or more now) of people that think these prequels (esp. the first one!) don't suck!

It's the only way to go if you're even a little bit discrete IRL. Set a different desktop background so you can tell at a glance it's logged in. Consider having it be a non-administrative account if porn journeys often take you to sites infested with malware and the like. You can even monkey with file permissions for the user folder to make it even harder to get into, but even without that your history and cookies should be pretty safe from casual looking around. You may also consider enabling the guest account (with no password) so visitors are sandboxed away from everything. One other thing I loved on my last computer (sadly new one doesn't have it) was the fingerprint scanner. Not so much for security, but because I programmed different fingers for different accounts, and if I swiped one while the other was logged in it would 'fast user switch' to it. Usually a lot faster than typing passwords too (unless I just washed my hands and had no oil on my fingers). And I really liked the HD encryption features a built-in system gives you, in case TSA ever got a bit frisky with me... just some things to consider next time you're faced with a choice between a ~$1000 laptop and a $1500-$2000 business laptop. Fast user switch doesn't require the scanner, and it's cool (switch user in Win7), you can leave stuff open and everything, just don't be on a site that may play telling audio while you're away.

Speaking of NBCUniversal's desperation... "...In addition, Meyer unveiled the above new Universal logo that will make its debut in March, and thereafter remind viewers of the studio’s estimable legacy as a source for innovative filmmaking, right before they watch Battleship." http://www.avclub.com/articles/universal-to-celebrate-100th-anniversary-with-reis,67429/

The only way to get public office, it would seem, is to pander to the anti-intellectual wack-a-do's. The 99% needs to fucking VOTE.

Just finished watching the entire season. Damn that was good. Some great acting. Really well done too, though a part of me wishes it'd ended there another part can't wait for Season 2!

Bill In Exile's an even weirder mix than that. Fair amount of military stuff but most odd is the family stuff about his nephew and relatives, mixed in with the porn and the nightclub he's working on and politics and nostalgia... I don't quite understand how one mixes everything together like that, but then even though I live alone and nobody uses my computer I have a separate login I use whenever I look at porn or these kinds of sites, so maybe I'm just too repressed.

Semi-related... wish they were real.
