So you despise figs? They say the leading cause of atheism is actually reading the bible for yourself... Learning more about the bible than the vast majority of Christians has certainly re-enforced my beliefs, but the crux of my rejection came upon me in middle school during a discussion (--led by a devout Christian and good teacher) of ancient gods, how they were used to explain things mankind did not yet know, and is best summarized: "When you understand why you dismiss all the other possible gods, you will understand why I dismiss yours." Of course I believe in some of the teachings/goals. But do I believe that we have to grovel for favor to a magical being in the sky who created us in his image then punished us for being imperfect? No. Do I believe that some fairytale in a book demonstrably mistranslated, edited and embellished over time is required for people to act in a moral or just way? Hell no and I think that is unbelievably insulting! In fact that book can be shown to be a catalyst for immeasurable human suffering, in my lifetime slightly different viewpoints on it have had Christians killing other Christians (Northern Ireland). And it's been simultaneously used as justification for the actions of: Martin Luther King Jr and the KKK, abolitionists and slaveholders, Fred Phelps and sane people. But what I do believe in, most strongly, is the US Constitution and it's establishment clause (among others). And that any move towards public secularism is a net gain for society.

Didn't see this one yesterday, or the barking dogs... only other memorable one I saw was the Doritos bribe one. Overall, very meh, made more so by stupidly leaking almost all of them. They're just fucking commercials, the twits are luck we care enough to watch them ONCE!

Never occurred to me before these are celebrations of a monarch's parent's death! British are weird...

Just watched the first true sequel episodes to the last that Whitfield stared in. Didn't really bother with the prequels... Spartacus: Vengeance... actor that replaced Whitfield is maybe a little fairer of face but less defined of body. Acting, well, do you like gladiator movies, Billy? Not sure if I'll bother to continue to watch it, but the second "Surprise! guess who's still alive..." has me slightly intrigued. Lucy Lawless is maybe a slightly less pale shadow of Polly Walker (in Rome) this season, but still nowhere near. Plenty of room to grow, at least.

Congrats to Oz, TY and and everybody who made this place possible!

If Ron Paul can't come close in Nevada he needs to sit down and shut up! It's an electorate made for him and his pathetic showing kinda justifies the media ignoring him. Not that I wouldn't welcome him to run as a third party and split the Repub. vote ala Perot!

Now, now, they also get involved in cases where they might be able to steal the vote without anybody knowing, especially if it also helps a big-business benefactor! But a general theme of "don't let them darkies vote" does pervade, I'll grant. How long 'till some some wingnut adds drug testing to mandatory ID requirements?

2 gays: We were jailed in Ohio without our pants
JKane replied to TampaYankee's topic in The Beer Bar
Still a repudiation of what heretofore would be business-as-usual. -
I've always thought Sec State positions are some of the most critical, yet few pay any attention. Well, two words for you Katherine Harris! We have a great one here in California, Debra Bowen, but I think she's coming up against term limits soon or trying to move up. I'll support her in whatever but we need to make sure whomever takes her seat is as savvy as she was--and not in Diebold's (or business/republican's) pocket!

Believe me, coaches tried, football and basketball (that'd have been scary to see!) but I was far happier with the video crew cablecasting the games! Now my height seems pretty average and I routinely run into people taller than I am--which feels really weird, people *aren't* taller than me! Damn kids today with their HGH and great nutrition!

Creepy new anti-privacy bill being considered by Hawaii legislature
JKane replied to TampaYankee's topic in The Beer Bar
I love that the reason the bill was started is that some dipshit lawmaker's web designer used their password to read email! "Hacking." -
One Million Moms to JC Penney: fire Ellen, she's gay
JKane replied to TampaYankee's topic in The Beer Bar
And yet their actions have so very little to do with the teaching of the Christ they grovel to. Fairy tales are for kids, not living your life by! -

Hopefully that police department gets smacked about hard--like that one in Texas that did the gay bar raid not long ago! -
How DARE you! According to all Republican sources there is NOTHING wrong with our healthcare system and having every aspect of it be solely profit driven makes it the envy of the WORLD!

One Million Moms to JC Penney: fire Ellen, she's gay

I'm thinking this would be a good morning to shop at Penny's and enjoy a coffee at Starbucks! -

Also, fuckers are going after Starbucks too! -

Here's the article I read on JC Penny's response to the fucking bigots. -
ISPs will enforce copyright with lenient new "6 strikes" rule
JKane replied to TampaYankee's topic in The Beer Bar
This sounds way too reasonable for an industry that routinely sues 12 year olds for tens of thousands of dollars! -
One Million Moms to JC Penney: fire Ellen, she's gay
JKane replied to TampaYankee's topic in The Beer Bar
I'd read far better news relating to this. JC Penny already responded that they stand with Ellen and there were only something like 25k signatures on the petition... -
The TSA, yes. The Air Marshals I have nothing but respect for.

Yep, 35 and sat through probably nearing a hundred games and still don't understand wtf a 'down' is...

None of those things quite do it for me, but will be going to a gathering of mundanes on Sunday anyway, mostly for the social aspects.

Damn it's sad how strongly Michigan shows on that list! There's no helping Flint, but Detroit suburbs kinda surprises me (Warren), many are very nice! And I was under the impresion downtown was getting a little bit of gentrification (even before downtown LA started) and might start to turn around some...

I just had one today, kinda attached to the interface, from Google trying to tell me how I could use Google talk for free phone service throughout the year. A little annoying, but at the same time they have a pretty compelling (and cheap/free) Skype/Vonage alternative available to us all...

New Orleans! Austin didn't bore me until I'd been there!
