  1. Please don't let that stand in your way. It hasn't stopped any of the rest of us from posting on a wide variety of topics, either standing up or sitting down.
  2. She's a really good actress. When I saw her do an interview during the Mary Tyler Moore years, I couldn't believe she really didn't have a New York accent. She nailed that character. The transition to her own show was deftly done too. I understand that a spin-off character who can be crazy in a supporting role has to become much more centered in a starring role, so that the other characters can bounce off her. I thought she handled that transition very well. Hell, her spinoff show lasted five seasons. Cloris Leachman's lasted only two. She has a lot to be proud of. Sorry I never got to see her do Tallu.
  3. As Sir Henry memorably said: If I had all the money I've spent on drink, I'd spend it on drink. ( and props to AdamSmith for directing me to Rawlinson End )

  6. Actually, I like Ikea's cafeteria. I don't get there much, but the meatballs taste pretty good to me, horse meat or no. And, as ihpguy says, their chocolate bars are quite good and only 99¢ the last time I was there. Better and cheaper than Hershey's, that's for sure.
  7. As soon as I read this I went out and got a bunch of wine. I'm planning to get the rest of the stuff the very next chance I get.
  8. Although I didn't vote either way, I'm not terribly offended by being referred to as a fag. Although I can't actually say it shows a huge amount of class either. I can understand NCBored's view that it wasn't Lucky's reaction that was being voted on but, rather, other folks' feeling about the word. In fairness, though, the poll did come close on the heels of Lucky's statement, so it wouldn't be too hard to comingle one with the other, you should pardon the expression. However, I also think I see Lucky's point. Sometimes, when you're part of a close-knit community, if even one member is seriously offended by something, the other members of the community voluntarily refrain from doing it. Assuming, that is, that it's not too onerous to refrain from doing it. It's just a way to show respect for the feelings of all members of the group. I think this group is kind of like that, so it wouldn't kill me not to call Lucky a fag if I know it bothers him. The exception to that would be if it was hugely important to me that I refer to Lucky as a fag, say if somebody was offering me a hundred bucks to do it. Most likely, I'd apologize in advance, and then pass him a twenty when I was all done. If it's important to OZ's business model to call us all fags, then I guess we'll all just have to hunker down and take it like men ladies. If, however, it's not critical to the survival of the site, then maybe it could just be saved for those special occasions when absolutely nothing else will do.
  9. A catamite poofter named Jay Thought that nancy boy sounded too gay. 'To be labelled a fag Is a bit of a drag, But I'll answer to queer any day.'
  10. In case anyone's feeling peckish, below is a horse meat burger recipe from a Montreal grocery chain's website. They recommend serving it on kaiser rolls, though why they don't use sea biscuits is beyond me. There's another horse meat burger recipe, and several mane course recipes as well. Can a Ralph Woods Burger be far behind? Recipe ingredients 1 lb. (500 g) ground horse meat 3 ounces (100 g) Presqu’île cheese 1 carton Quebec mushrooms (in season) 1 carton Onion sprouts (sold with the alfafa sprouts) 1 shallot Sufficient quantity, kaiser rolls 3 Tbsp. (45 mL) Irresistibles mayonnaise 5 mL (1 tsp.) smoked paprika Sufficient quantity, butter Sufficient quantity, salt and pepper. Preparation Very finely chop the shallot. Combine the horse meat and the shallot, season with salt and pepper. Make small patties (slightly larger than the buns) and set aside in the refrigerator. Slice the mushrooms. Melt 1 Tbsp. butter in a pan. When it foams, add the mushrooms. Do not move the mushrooms around too much in the pan to allow them to caramelize. Season only when they are cooked. Cook the mini patties on the barbecue or in the oven. When you flip the patties, place a slice of cheese on top and let it melt. Meanwhile, combine the mayonnaise and the smoked paprika. Spread the mayo on the buns, place the patties and cheese and garnish with the mushrooms and onion sprouts.
  11. Yes, and the lingonberry sauce covers up a multitude of sins. Or were those dingleberries?
  12. Can't find the link to the interview with the maritime attorney, but he was based in Miami and made his living suing cruise lines, Carnival, I expect, among them. He sounded like he knew what he was talking about. At the time, a couple of weeks ago, all the chatter was about suing for trouble and aggravation along with fear of harm. Nothing about actual harm and certainly nothing about fatalities, which I'm sure would trump any conditions printed on the ticket, as you say. This lawyer said that none of these 'time and trouble' lawsuits would stand a chance in court. The cruise lines have been down this road before and have stacked the deck in their favor, so to speak. Not to say there aren't lawyers out there who would take a nuisance case but my guess is, if they knew what they were doing, they wouldn't take it on contingency and would want their fees, win or lose. There may also be some lawyers who figure Carnival is publicity-shy on this one and would pay them to go away. But, according to the lawyer who was interviewed, they would not win a case on its merits. But what do I know?
  13. I heard a radio interview a couple weeks ago with a maritime lawyer who specializes in suing cruise lines. He said that passengers sign away all kinds of rights when they purchase their tickets, including the rights to sue for inconvenience, emotional distress, and fear of harm. They actually have to be harmed in order to collect anything. Now, if someone can actually prove illness from the alleged unsanitary conditions, they have a case. However, he said they will have to file their lawsuits in Federal court in Miami where Carnival is headquartered. The cruise lines are not without their own legal chops.

  15. Not much on fish, but I think horse meat, properly served up, can make for a tasty meal.
  16. Have you ever considered just having a snatch installed?
  17. Actually, Hi, I've been rather unbecoming since 1973. Besides, if you took away my rolling eyes smiley, I'd be functionally mute. Not that there's anything wrong with that.
  18. A truly wonderful bit of humor. I have most of his stuff and can open it at random for a good laugh. What a mind he had! He did the sets for Dracula which I saw on Broadway in the late seventies; the same intricate black-and-white style on the backdrops, and black-and-white costumes which he also designed. But in each act was a single blood-red item: a glass of wine, a ruby pendant necklace, and the satin lining of the vampire's cape. Memorable to this day. I don't know if he single-handedly did the animations for "Masterpiece Theater". It wouldn't surprise me. His work is so subtle and so controlled. How could he have turned it over to anyone else? Wish I could have spent some time in his company. He was one of a kind. His comments on his sexuality: I'm neither one thing nor the other particularly. I am fortunate in that I am apparently reasonably undersexed or something ... I've never said that I was gay and I've never said that I wasn't ... what I'm trying to say is that I am a person before I am anything else ... His Cape Cod house is kept as a museum.
  19. With you all the way, though I might send Tim Tebow back to the scrimmage line. That's saying something too, as my usual partner is at the end of my arm. At least it has an opposable thumb.
  20. A guy is driving around the back woods of Montana and he sees a sign in front of a broken down shanty-style house: 'Talking Dog For Sale' He rings the bell and the owner appears and tells him the dog is in the back yard. The guy goes into the backyard and sees a nice looking Labrador Retriever sitting there. 'You talk?' he asks. 'Yep,' the Lab replies. After the guy recovers from the shock of hearing a dog talk, he says 'So, what's your story?' The Lab looks up and says, 'Well, I discovered that I could talk when I was pretty young. I wanted to help the government, so I told the CIA. 'In no time at all they had me jetting from country to country, sitting in rooms with spies and world leaders, because no one figured a dog would be eavesdropping. 'I was one of their most valuable spies for eight years running. 'But the jetting around really tired me out, and I knew I wasn't getting any younger so I decided to settle down. I signed up for a job at the airport to do some undercover security, wandering near suspicious characters and listening in. I uncovered some incredible dealings and was awarded a batch of medals. 'I got married, had a mess of puppies, and now I'm just retired.' The guy is amazed. He goes back in and asks the owner what he wants for the dog. 'Ten dollars,' the owner says. 'Ten dollars? This dog is amazing! Why on earth are you selling him so cheap?' 'Because he's a bullshitter. He's never been out of the yard.'
  21. I don't think I came even close to suggesting that he was wasting any one's time. I am just curious as to why he posted the pic. A little more info was all I was after. I made a point to say that I like his posts. How careless of me! The one time I neglect to use a smiley face in a post and it comes back to haunt me! See if I make that mistake again! (Happily, FourAces liked it. ) ( )
  22. You obviously didn't notice Jimmy Hoffa standing in the crowd of onlookers. FourAces may wax nostalgic once in a while, but he does not waste our time.
  23. You were polite, professional, and kind. I don't see how you could have handled it any better. Without being a mind reader anyway.

    Downton Abbey

Just learned that writer and creator, Julian Fellowes, has been tapped to do a new series for NBC, and that Season 4 of Downton Abbey will be the last one he will write. At least by himself. Too bad, as I have been meaning to write him with a suggestion of my own for a new character, Sir Creepwood 'Creepy' Crawley, who left Downton for London several years ago, under rather mysterious circumstances and with a couple of footmen in tow. He has returned to say 'pip pip' and to find out if Alfred and James might fancy a stroll down Piccadilly.
  25. I'm still not clear who, besides this site, has my email address. And I'm not sure what a 'sister site' is if it's controlled by somebody else. Specifically, does VS Media now have my email address, and are they free to use it as they see fit and to pass it along to other sites? And, if this site fathers a 'sister site' in, say, Abuja, will my email address be passed along as part of the dowry? My email address is not listed in my profile. I did have email 'notifications' turned on, in case a site member ever wanted to send me an email, although it was my understanding that the email would be routed to me through this site and they would not actually see my email address until I responded to them. Just in case, I have now turned all of my email notifications off. I know some folks have dozens of email addresses and pass them out like Halloween candy, but I've only ever had one and I try to keep track of where it goes. This is the biggest bunch of spam I've received since a Mr. Jonathan Priestley, Esq., decided he had stumbled onto 50 Million Dollars, U. S. Currency, that was rightfully mine and was eager to see that I got it. That also did not turn out well.
