You have been blessed during the past five days! The friggin' spring weather in Rio during much of October was the mere pits! It definitely curtailed much of the outdoor activities that Barr and I had planned. Also, Brasil tends to have a holiday at least once per week. There were two of them during our two weeks while we were there. I had no place to go that had been closed as a result of these holidays, so I did NOT particularly care. But we thought it unusual as well as unique!!!! Enjoy yourself tonight and your trip back to the States, you lucky, lucky traveling man, you!!!!!

Tom, Barr and I went to Club117 on a Friday night as well as on two other nights, and on this particular Friday--it became quite, quite packed. Guys, I could not believe my eyes last week and the week before (10 October until the 23rd) that Meio Mundo had overgone a complete face lift. The place has a wonderful lounge with big screen television downstairs and nice leather furniture, a redone main lounge with an American style bar, a nice room for the boys "to get hard" which is on the third floor, and separate dressing facilities for the boys and the clients. My friends and I went on three different occasions and liked the experience. The guys were after us, but mainly they seemingly favored the European/white and/or Asian clients over men of colour. Glad you're on the mend and sorry that we were unable to meet when I was in Rio during the past 13 days, but you'd forewarned me. Strangely enough I was somewhat oblivious regarding pricing in Rio de janeiro. My friend and I shared an apartment in Copacabana, ate out a lot, picked up the tab in its entirety or split it occasions, but the both of us were not in tune with the increases. We just went with the ebb and flow which for me was the best. We did spend lots of money on taxis, especially when the driver would pick up that little 8X10 laminated sheet and quote a fee differently from what the meter revealed. This was NOT a consistent practice, so I know nothing about the significance. I only fretted to myself when that friggin' card was picked up. Managed to get into a cinema for half price because of my senior status. I did not even show any ID either! But at Jardim Botanica-- only Brasilian seniors were allowed to get into this beautiful and gorgeous site free with ID. We shopped at a few super markets, but again, by our not living there for any significance of time, we did not know what had gone up or down or remained the same! Yes,Rio is still a favorite city of mine; there is still much to explore. The constant rain during this visit put "dampers" on many of our out-of-doors special activities.

At one time I thought about getting a job in Bangkok and living there, but that has since changed. I hope to continue to visit for as long as I have the health and the energy, for "she" can be frenetic at times (traffic, traffic, traffic--people, people, people). I like cities (grew up in one) but have lived in towns of no more than 30,000 south of San Francisco on the coast for the past 40+ years!! ...don't know how I would fair by living in Bangkok for a long period of time!

Lucky, I think the best thing to do nowadays regarding lodging in Rio is to stay in an apartment. I'll get my first direct taste of this two weeks from now when I hope to be in Rio. My friend and I are renting an apartment. Living in an apartment in Buenos Aires has been stellar. I've done this four previous times and hope to be doing it again beginning a week from this coming Wednesday (5 October 2011). Not only have these apartments been upscale and beautiful; they've been relatively inexpensive vs what we'll be getting in Rio.

As a visitor to Curitiba a few years back, I think I went in 2006, it's purported to be the most European of Brasilian cities; it's also know for its ecological mindiness; thus it was a very, very clean city irrespective of its being in South America. Club 520 was wonderful, but since I was ill, I chose not to be with any garotos. They asked my amigo what was the problem, he didn't say much. But when the guys approached me, etc., I smiled and said "noa obrigado!" Foz do Iguacu is a "must visit" for anyone going to Brasil or to Argentina. If one has not done this, go and take in all of this magnificence. Stay in a lodging right at the falls on either side. This experience will be long remembered.
