  1. I found this out by actually forgetting a charger. The lost and found showed me the box and said "help yourself!"
  2. The book Stiff was Mary Roach's fine effort to tell you everything you ever wanted to know, and many things you didn't,about cadavers. She followed that with Bonk, giving details of sex that were fascinating if not always titillating. Now she comes out with Packing For Mars, with details of space travel the average person has probably given little thought to. How do you control body odor on a long flight into space? Vomiting into a space helmet? Astronaut Jim Lovell told the author that the Gemini 7 mission was like spending two weeks in a latrine. But it's not all body and smell, there's off-planet mating, the denial of an astronaut's request for a blow-up doll- not for moral reasons but because they would have had to plan time for its use. Roach tells us what happens to the human body as it breaks apart at high speeds, and the effects of radiation on the astronaut. If my little summary has whetted your interest, then go to today's NY Times for the book review, which is where I got my information. Then, like me, you can decide if you can handle the whole book: http://www.nytimes.com/2010/08/08/books/review/Lord-t.html?_r=1&ref=books Need more? Here's a pretty fascinating excerpt from the book: http://www.nytimes.com/2010/08/09/books/excerpt-packing-for-mars.html?pagewanted=2&ref=review
  3. I have never gone to a Best Buy and walked out satisfied. The staff seem to go out of their way to ignore me, and when I do grab one of them, they can't get away fast enough. Of course, I probably shouldn't be grabbing them by their balls, but, hey, I want their attention! My current problem is the nice printer I bought. It had a paper jam, and in clearing it I dislodged a wire. I can't see where the wire connects as it does so underneath something. Best Buy doesn't fix printers, and the shop I called wanted $68 just to look at it. A straight nephew is coming over this afternoon and I intend to challenge his masculinity by daring him to fix it. (Just kidding on the latter part.)
  4. Summer is always a slow time for theater, unless "summer theater" in an old barn is your idea of fun. I saw an amateur production of Love, Valour, and Compassion that made me cringe at times, but the cast tried hard. Later this month I will see Robin and the Seven Hoods at the Old Globe in San Diego. It's supposed to be Broadway bound. And, incidentally, the Old Globe is doing Broadway Bound and Brighton Beach Memoirs in repertoire this fall, and I have tickets for that as I really liked these shows years ago. The Palm Canyon Theatre in Palm Springs starts their fall season next month with (sigh) Cats. I did discover a website that looks pretty good, listing southern California theater events: www.performingartslive.com
  5. We're a week into August now, and where there is some definite uptick in posting, it seems to be loosing some of its enthusiasm. We need some regulars to post more (Townie?) and also to encourage new guys. We had a new member named Monsoon come on this week, and also glutes and CharliePS joined us. Why not try to get some of your friends to sign up here? PS- Oz or TY, do the stats bear out an increase in posting this past week?
  6. I thought that Cambodia and Sri Lanka were where the pedophiles went. I've never seen any hint of underage sex in Rio. Can't say the same for Pattaya where the Sunnee Plaza had some disgusting things going on.
  7. Thanks for the video. This guy is really cute to watch.
  8. Here's more: http://www.towleroad.com/2010/07/emmer.html#comments
  9. I saw Chris Pine perform there in another show. (Actually, I think it was at the Geffen.) He is getting some serious theater creds to let people know that he is more than Captain Kirk. But, when I saw Inishmore in New York, I didn't like it that much.
  10. Now KY, how would Viagra make a baseball player swing his bat for power?
  11. Yes, indeed, welcome to the forum, Monsoon. I am glad we share a taste in men!
  12. People talk about boycotting stores like Wal-mart, but I always thought Target was okay. Now it turns out that they have been supporting anti-gay causes for some time: http://www.theawl.com/2010/08/real-america-target-doesnt-support-gay-equality-because-it-never-did
  13. Does anyone know the story here? My link More can be learned here- the story on an Asian version of Jersey Shores called K-Town: http://www.thedailybeast.com/blogs-and-stories/2010-08-03/the-asian-jersey-shore/?cid=hp:beastoriginalsL5
  14. The guy on the right in the top photo is the actor Daryl Stephens- very sexy man.
  15. I am counting on you Buddy!
  16. Here is a link to the story: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/08/04/caroline-giuliani-arreste_n_671013.html
  17. Are these guys not going to grow old before they ever realize how fleeting their youth is? I hope that they all make the most of it while they can. Was it not so long ago that you thought you had the world in your hand, only to find that some younger guy came along and snatched it away from you? Oh hell, yes, they sure are cute!
  18. I accept the congratulations on behalf of myself and Mr. Rod. Don't forget, athletes have long used every means at their disposal to enhance their performance.
  19. The daughter of former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani was arrested today for shoplifting. The mayor, a so-called family values man on his third wife is the same guy who gave us Bernard Kerik as New york Police Commissioner and tried to foist the man upon the country as Homeland Security director before his deep ties to organized crime were discovered. Kerik is currently in prison. Giuliani ran for president but his children refused to support him.
  20. Finally!

glutes, welcome to MER. I hope that you enjoy your time here.
  22. Yes, he is a jerk. And he can jerk right on my face.
  23. It is true that baseball attendance has declined slightly. I attribute that to higher ticket prices and the recession. I think some of the clubs have not given their fans fair pricing, and I do mean the Yankees. They make so much off of the television rights that they can afford to be nicer, not just to A-Rod, but to me! When I can see them in Oakland for $55 in seats behind home plate, but must pay over $400 for the same seats in New York, well, I will watch them on television. It's cold in Oakland at night! BTW- It's now 47 at bats w/o a HR for A-Rod.
  24. Well, there are a few others who told me that they would take a look at this, and I await their presence, but yes, there is definitely more posting going on, and interesting posts at that. So, the honey is on the table...
  25. This thread was about as successful as A-Rod's home run attempt. Oh well, you can't win them all. (dang bunch of anti-baseball gay guys, probably throw like a girl too...)
