  1. This August sports teams have stepped up refusing to play especially in the NBA, but also Major League Baseball (including leadership from new, up and coming stars) and the National Hockey League. Earlier today Jacob Blake, Senior told Rev Al on television how much the March in Washington and the rally today in Kenosha meant to him and his family. His son is still heavily sedated
  2. The shooting of Jacob Blake and killing of George Floyd are national tragedies that go far beyond the November election. And it also goes far beyond just Mr. Blake and Mr. Floyd, as was shown again and again yesterday at the March on Washington I understand White folk invested in their homes don't need Trump and his ilk to scare them about so-called anarchists in a nearbyl city . Police unions back the police, of course, as they should. If the initial reports about Mr Blake shot multiple times in the back for minor reasons, more more marches in Wisconsin and nationally are warranted. (at the least).
  3. President Trump has commented on the shooting of Jacob Blake: I will be looking at it very seriously. I didn't like the sight of it. On a related issue, Trump criticized the NBA for "very low ratings."
  4. Thanks to C-SPAN, the March was broadcast live. How fitting the 57th anniversary of Martin Luther King's "I had a dream" speech took place only hours after the Trump event at the White House.. in contrast, the March provided a very affirmative view of Black Lives Matter. Jacob Blake's dad was on the first guest. He brilliantly set the tone of anger and hope. (later yesterday his son's leg was no longer shakeled to his hospital bed in Wisconsin.). Reverend Al gathered family members of other Black heros who are no longer with us. So many! I had a summer factory job in 1963 the year of King March. I don't remember watching the news that day and was surprised the six leaders of that March met President Kennedy that evening. Wonderful day!
  5. There was a hand maiden, Ivanka Trump. And her husband, Jared is a bit of a hand maden as well.
  6. Yes, he did. Thanks for mentioning it.
  7. You and I and many others are doing it. But not the members discussing presidential projects. Not a new subject: See: Smith, Margaret Chase et al. "The Right Man for the Big Job," The New York Times Magazine April 3, 1960, 27, 120-122. Predicting presidential elections was very popular in the 1960 by academics and journalist Neunstadt, Richard E. Presidential Power: The Politics of Leadership. New York Signet Ed, 1964 Kennedy and Johnson loved Neunstadt, he is forgotten now
  8. I am not defending the Electoral College, or calling for change. The extremely long posts in this thread make me think it's about everything but this year election. Pardon me, I seem to be the only one concerning about November and the difficult tasking of defeating a sitting a sitting president.
  9. The professor is a historian not a political sciencist who's field is the presidency, Constitutional aw and politcal parties. A political sciencist wouldn't just dismiss the popular vote or the Electoral College as inconveniet @stevenkesslar
  10. This professor predicted Trump would win the popular vote, not the electoral college. And I doubt nominee Joe Biden will breath more easily untill and if he actually defeats Trump on election day, or untill the is decided. Also families were split over the Vietnam War (or as "da 5 Bloods reminds us the American war). And families were split over Richard Nixon and later Ronald and Nancy Reagan.
  11. I read all the books so took part in all the discussions. The fee to audit at Penn is $500 per course, a bargain for me. And I did get to know the students and hang out on campus.
  12. Trump is the new George Wallace, and much more dangerous. That is why his older sister, Maryanne Trump Barry, complained so bitterly about him. Donald kept asking her if she watched Fox News Her answer, "No, I read books instead."
  13. I audited five or six literature courses at the University of Pennsylvania on Russian literature in English translation, Mann, Kafka, Hesse in English translation. But the best course was Colonial Literature taught by female model from South Africa. Nelson Mandela died near the end, she flew to South Africa for the funeral. The Ides of students having it easy now is not true, in my experience. The amount of required assignments in German lit class was staggering. To the extent the Prof agreed to drop Thomas Mann, "Doctor Faustas.". I read it anyway.
  14. I read John O'Hara, Katherine Anne Porter and James Mitchner's " Tales of The South Pacific" in the early 1960s. Tried to read Faulkner many times, but cannot get very far. James Joyce too except for "Ulysses."
  15. Trump's sister, Maryanne Trump Barry told her niece her brother, Donald Trump, is cruel, doesn't read, if he was religious the people at the border would be treaded better, and he has no principles. Mrs. Barry is 9 years older than Donald From the Washington Post article and CNN
  16. Did Jonathan Majors have a supporting role in "Da 5 Bloods.". The name is very familiar. Good film.
  17. A bit off topic Apparently the Republican National Convention will include audiences and in person speeches. Scott Baio is hoping a speakers will cancel because he is quite a ways down on the "available, only in an emergency" list.
  18. So glad to see the 13 year old boy who stutters last night at the Demoratic National Convention. He had trouble with several words in front of the television audience, but kept trying. Joe Biden also stutters and bonded with him, although not in the television segment. I guess a way to show Biden's empathy. If so, it actually worked because of the 13 year old.
  19. I completely agree about the other presidential candidates being there. I wish Tulsi Gabbard had been invited Bloomberg talked about Trump's failed businesses. It needed to be said. Candidates are a bit more complex than one note trout. So annoyed.
  20. The last day of the Dems convention is running late. The high point sofar is a Zoom discussion with all the Democratic presidential 2020 candidate. An amazing group. Funny, informative and charming. .Senator Sanders stood out, of course. So did Pete. Mayor Bloomberg: go get him,Joe and Kamala.
  21. Mostly alone @Latbear4blk organized the politcal forum on the other site for black lives matter. He doesn't like praise, but he absolutely deserves praise. I can't remember anything like it on message boards.
  22. And he knows where you live In other news President Jimmy Carter says Joe Biden is the right man for president. Hunter Biden will agree tonight on the closing night of the Democratic National Convention. @tassojunior Plays his anti Hunter Biden card as will President Trump.
  23. And he knows where you live In other news President Jimmy Carter says Joe Biden is the right man for president. Hunter Biden will agree tonight on the closing night of the Democratic National Convention.
  24. That is a ridiculous slur against combat Veterans. Gross generalization. Are you including military police as combat Veterans?
  25. Marylander knows your race, @tassojunior
