  1. Years ago there was a radio station owner, Hoyt B. Wooten, who built a bomb shelter that would house his immediate family +. It had independent power, air supply, hidden air inlets and a prison bar type entrance. I thought even before the movie "Dirty Dozen" that whatever keeps others out also keeps some in. As always, there is no complete answer to any problem. My "real" question is, if you survive a nuclear holocaust with whom shall you celebrate this event? And, why? Best regards, RA1
  2. After I misused "funnier" I have no comment about how funny you might be. But, still, we can have fun in the sun, if we can find either. Best regards, RA1
  3. Haven't we all (been a bit more funnier)? Thanks, Best regards, RA1
  4. I am not familiar with this author. I read the Wiki bio. He seems intelligent but somewhat repetitious. However, I enjoyed this rendition and will read more of his efforts. Best regards, RA1
  5. My "South" parts always rise at the mention of Brazil, whether caused by inflation or otherwise. Best regards, RA1
  6. And, happy Chaucer to you, too. Meet you at noon at the Canterbury Inn where, if we are lucky, we shall meet some Canterbury Tails. Best regards, RA1
  7. I accept yours AS but know of no target on my back. No harm, no foul from what I observe. Best regards, RA1

    BO today

Why is BO going on and on in today's press conference? Is he trying to suggest his time is worthwhile? Is he trying to make good things from bad? Sorry to say, this sounds like we have lost so we have to go on but where? I don't know if I will be around when BO is "finally" judged as a US prez but right now he sucks. Sorry. Best regards, RA1
  9. I agree with Saffir, Bud Light is only for those who are trying to quit. Double fie on her when in close proximity to Sam Adams. I lived through folks fawning over Colorado Cool Aid when it was unavailable east of KS but never otherwise understood the allure. To some extent I do understand light beer. We no longer work physically for our bread AND the mules never minded if we had a pitcher of beer with lunch while they kept us on the straight and narrow (as in furrow). Today, a 3 martini or pitcher of beer lunch can be downright hazardous to one's personal health and those we might mow down in our suburban assault vehicles afterwards. My answer is to drink "real beer" when walking or otherwise not endangering oneself or others. Diet Coke, anyone? Best regards, RA1
  10. The WSJ was reporting that voters were voting against Democrats (and especially BO) rather than for Republicans. Insanity is doing the same thing repeatedly while expecting a different result. AE. Very little has changed. We return to gridlock with a failing President trying to establish a legacy while his party mostly tries to distance themselves from him. We have disenfranchised ourselves. Best regards, RA1
  11. lookin- It solves a LOT of problems when you feel the way you express yourself about all pols, not just Republicans. I think I know you really do already feel that way. Best regards, RA1
  12. Gee, why can't we judge these gay dads as better than most others, regardless of sexual application? Best regards, RA1
  13. I was curious about how and why Bentley surpassed Rolls as a luxury car. Turns out to be a contest between BMW and Volkswagen which apparently VW has won. I had a notion to buy Rolls stock when it went to $6 many years ago during bankruptcy. My opinion was the "intrinsic" value was much more than that. Before I could place my order the stock went to $10 and I lost my nerve. Best regards, RA1
  14. Sounds like a good title. Let's see, a Spanish film in English about a family vacationing in Thailand when the Indian Ocean suffers a tsunami. Could be a depiction of the political maelstrom in DC on any given couple of days. Not sure what you thought is impossible. Pols changing their stripes? Best regards, RA1
  15. I wish this meant something other than the same pols with different names. Best regards, RA1
  16. Should I have said, hail to the hale? Best regards, RA1
  17. I am familiar with the Canal Street fairy (ferry) but from where do you hale? Best regards, RA1
  18. I am temporarily out of 1/6 of a Drachma coins. Would you be willing to accept 100 million Lira? Of course, now that we know what you are, we are only discussing the price. :) Best regards, RA1
  19. Said the father of 8 whose wife was using the "rhythm" method. Best regards, RA1
  20. "....just telling folks to trust them." Why not? NASA, BO and most pols mostly get away with this line. I am not as cavalier as some may think about these issues. I always try to be mindful of the risk/reward. I am not giving a get out of jail free card to anyone just yet but I am also not asking them to not pass go, do not collect $200 yet, either. A few days ago we had a "well proven" rocket blow up just after liftoff. Chemistry can be dangerous. Best regards, RA1
  21. Are you accusing "Branson's" engineers of not reading Wikipedia? Any oxidizer is by definition a substance that contains oxygen. A rapid oxidation is commonly called an explosion. Any vessel that contains a fuel + oxygen is a potential bomb aka something that explodes. I feel fairly certain that the engineers did not choose this particular hybrid rocket simply because of its power potential and completely disregarded any inherent danger thereof. However, they did have design performance goals to meet. Best regards, RA1
  22. Let's not be too hasty. Who warned about Morton Thiokol? Challenger didn't happen? NASA has no business pointing fingers at anyone, does it? Space exploration will be dangerous and risky for the foreseeable future. Explosions and contact with such as the hard ground are always nasty, if not fatal. You pays your money and you takes your chances. No risk? Stay firmly on the ground but watch out for 18 wheelers and the like. Best regards, RA1
  23. I am perfectly willing to acknowledge that various actors have about the same insight as "regular, non-famous" folks, just not more. Some "regular" folks are more insightful than others. Best regards, RA1
  24. The president has assaulted me many times. Sorry, couldn't resist. Best regards, RA1
