  1. If the US Constitution were a stray dog, even the Humane Society or PETA could not save it. This and many other issues are states rights issues, not constitutional issues. We are definitely on the way to being just another third world country. Best regards, RA1
  2. The regionals are the airliners that need more carry on baggage room. They are smaller aircraft and fly generally shorter legs. Even before the extra profit checked baggage came into vogue, everyone wanted to use carry on exclusively on regionals. From the experience of my friends who unfortunately have to use the regionals, they now have an unwritten policy of denying carry on even though it was bought specifically to fit on a regional. Their first claim, if you object, is, no, it won't fit. Their second claim is the aircraft has run out of room for carry on baggage. Clearly they are after the $25. Best regards, RA1
  3. Jimmy Doolittle got a few things done and his engineering degree was from MIT. Best regards, RA1
  4. Many years ago (before deregulation) I used to fly 2-4 times per week on the airlines. All of these trips were one way, either delivering an aircraft with airline home or vice versa. I never checked my baggage because when I got to the destination airport, the airport was where I was going to do business. Also, as mentioned above, in those days one could carry on two bags (+ check one if necessary). One trip I was going from MEM to RNO on a UA 727 with stops in ORD and BOI. A most of the day trip. For once I decided I would check a bag and just spread out, read and relax in my seat. Silly because in those days a bad trip was if the middle seat was occupied. Anyway, after riding all day, we arrived in RNO and I went to the baggage claim to get my bag. No bag. Not having my bag was going to be more than an inconvenience because in addition to clothes it had a lot of flying gear such as charts, etc. I walked back out to the 727 which was running and about to depart. The ground crew was hooked up to the external intercom and when I tapped him on the back, he nearly jumped out of his skin. I told him my bag was still on the aircraft and I wanted it. He explained to the pilots and retrieved it from the cargo hold and handed it to me. I thanked him and departed. All this was via shouting with the engines running. Even before deregulation this would not have been possible as security was started during the 70's. It slowly escalated until 2001 and then mushroomed. Still the UA pilots and the ground crew were surprised to see me walk out there. I could clearly see them looking at us from the cockpit. Intently. Best regards, RA1
  5. From previous reports I am not sure the C-17 will be sufficient for Oz's baggage. Perhaps a C-5A, a FEDEX wide body MD-11 or a Boeing 747-8 cargo version. An SAA FEDEX container will fit neatly into an MD-11 and carry up to 13,300 pounds. Nothing like having everything you own delivered at once. Best regards, RA1
  6. Sorry but good luck on all of that. Best regards, RA1

    The s-l-o-w walkout

lookin- I respect you and your opinions a lot. But, how world leaders view the US sometimes is in their own interests. Not ours. Having Islam countries approve of our foreign policies is not a plus but a decided negative. Sorry to say. Of course I would prefer the world be peaceful. Best regards, RA1
  8. Is that a 14 day camel? Most camels are 7 day camels but Mohammed, the camel renter, had 14 day camels. One day a potential investor came by and persuaded Big Mo to explain how he had 14 day camels. Sensing a big payday via this investor, he complied. When camels come off a caravan they are dry and in need of loading up on water. They go to the water hole and drink deeply. When they have drunk their fill they return to the stockade to await their next journey. Mohammed follows the same procedure but he gets behind the camels and when he knows they are almost full, he takes out two bricks and smartly claps them with the camels testicles in the middle. The camels go USSH and take in another 7 days worth of water. Best regards, RA1
  9. An early encounter with a character that was "totally" incorrigible. Any relationship? Best regards, RA1
  10. Are there any non-stop flights between "anywhere" and SYR? Best regards, RA1
  11. In theory any private business can refuse service and any potential patron can refuse to purchase. Of course, nothing is nowhere near that simple under current US law. Why would you hire him to fix your systems when his was just hacked? Just curious. Best regards, RA1
  12. Why would any of us do that? Best regards, RA1
  13. I would think a computer looks for "suspicious" words similar to how google and other search engines look for words that suggest the subject of your inquiry. I think that the US No Fly List goes to all the airlines (as well as charter operators of larger aircraft). Best regards, RA1
  14. Just don't throw either gum wrappers or the gum itself on the ground. Best regards, RA1

  17. Obviously it is to protect his "tailbone" which can suffer some painful injuries. Been there, done that. Best regards, RA1
  18. Two comments: What is wrong with this statement? Vast Welfare State. Did not the early New England Protestants embrace enterprise and capitalism? Was not religion part and parcel of their daily routines/business practices? Best regards, RA1
  19. Interesting, even though I have never watched this show. Best regards, RA1

    Protest by gyrocopter

I think they need to go back to grazing sheep on the White House lawn. Then, maybe there would be some useful inhabitants of the premises. Best regards, RA1
  22. Why are so many astonished by a political protester using "any" means to deliver a message? I view this guy's efforts to be misguided and misdirected but I support his right to protest. Isn't this part of the history of this country? Why does the silly media think it so strange that a small, almost invisible on radar, craft might be able to transverse restricted airspace? Yes, he could have been shot down by rifle fire without much difficulty. Thanks for not doing that. Consider this analogy. It is totally illegal to speed on the nation's highways. What are the results, unless caught doing so? Usually nothing. The point being that not speeding and not violating restricted airspace are largely voluntary actions as accepted by law abiding citizens. This man intended a protest and was using an unusual method to deliver same. Unless he is found guilty of potential harm for some other reason, perhaps a bit of counseling and admonishment might be almost the worst of it. A fine and don't do it again might suffice. I know we are not becoming too civilized, only too rule bound. Best regards, RA1
  23. How quickly we/they forget. If big business is the chief benefactor of trade with Cuba (other than the leaders of Cuba), how long will it take and how much of it will trickle down to the average Cuban citizen? Some to many believe a long time and not much. Best regards, RA1
  24. Bad economics seemingly always make "easier pickings" so. Best regards, RA1
