The Senate may well try to stifle or delay any BO appointment. The counter side to this is that any 4-4 votes by the Supremes affirms the lower court ruling. Best regards, RA1

When anyone asks me how to handle emergencies, I always say, first do nothing. Then, after considering the problem, proceed to accomplish the emergency check list. It is amazing how often the first thing done in an emergency is "bad". It is often better to do nothing at first and then do the correct thing. Time to consider is not time wasted (most of the time). The boys on Appollo 13 had numerous problems but had time to consider how to resolve them and rectify them. And, they did so, brilliantly. So far I have had numerous problems while flying. Seemingly I have solved most of them satisfactorily or else I would not be writing. Best regards, RA1

Suggested Valentine's Day Gifts for the Man with Everything

What does anyone suggest for the man who has "nothing" ? Best regards, RA1 -
Interesting that Morton Thiokol engineers tried to stop the launch. I did not recall this. I do remember that MT was blamed for the gaskets that would not survive a "cold" launch. LM. Seinfeld has a humorous story about why men like to drive around. What did men do when they went to the moon? Drive around some more. Did they have to go all the way to the moon just to do this? Etc. I always drip with condensation (sweat) when I try to do a "restart". Actually it boggles my mind to think about a 200 step restart procedure. From my experience in the aviation world, the end of an emergency procedure is sometimes lengthy and cumbersome but the essentials are usually one-two and you are done, more or less. "Hold down arms and service tail" just seems too obvious to not mention. Sorry. You know that I have enjoyed this whole sequence of story lines but my "voyeur" mentality overcomes. You know that isn't true either but we have to write something, don't we? Best regards, RA1

Every Apollo mission was MORE than hairily close run. If they knew then what we know now, no one would have dared go on such missions. Except for the test pilot credo, " I would rather die, than look bad". Best regards, RA1

I sent this to some of my nerd (pilot) friends. One response was, "read every word twice". Best regards, RA1

At first I thought you wrote "rockety" which would have either been uber nerd or "country". I like parking insertion. Best regards, RA1

For those who cruise parks in Brazil....
RA1 replied to Badboy81's topic in Latin America Men and Destinations
Sorry but I do not follow the point of this post. What happened 8 years ago may or may not be of great concern now. I am not happy that these things occurred then but please tell me about worries that are today. Best regards, RA1 -
Thanks for your update. I am very sorry to read what you have to write. However, pols everywhere have their hands in the public pocket with the US and Brazil no exceptions for sure. I have been waiting for a very long time for the voters/public to wake up and smell the coffee but my time is running out in the sense of many years to go. We are all abused but also somewhat oblivious. Best regards, RA1

Airports the world around tend to be in poorer sections of town. There are many reasons why this is so but no "good" ones. Best regards, RA1

They wouldn't try that in MEM. We go armed and shoot felons. Or, as some say, terrorists are reluctant to shoot folks in MEM, we shoot back. Of course the world is full of criminals and poor people and the current economic situation is not helping. All I know about Brazil is what I read but they seem to have plenty of problems to include polluted ocean, a poor economy as well as thugs roaming around. I agree Brazil generally is not ready for the Olympics. What they are doing reminds me of a Las Vegas gambler who keeps increasing his bet in order to get even. Almost never happens. "Any change...." Is that a quote from you? All this time I thought you were the "royalty" of Cambridge or at least a major inhabitant. Best regards, RA1

I want a "good" combination of face, age, height, body weight and cut. Eyes, smile and feet are interesting but not deal killers. IQ is probably #1. Is that kinky? Best regards, RA1

Luck always counts but I hate to depend entirely upon it. As the saying goes, there are no old, bold pilots. The premise being a person can be one or the other but not both. Perhaps hirers can make similar choices. Best regards, RA1 BTW- I have always been worth more dead than alive but that is to the beneficiary on a life insurance policy.
