Sorry if I am profiling but I want to know if they smoke which is a deal killer. Best regards, RA1

I have an old friend who had his stomach stapled and some intestines removed a few years ago. He did lose a lot of weight very soon and continued to lose some subsequently. However, he did suffer digestive problems resulting in trips to the bathroom and various other complications. He also began popping Beano in large quantities. At this point he is thinking he has become allergic to various things he was not previously allergic to, such as coffee. Some of these symptoms can likely be attributed to age. Regardless, he has lost a significant amount of weight, kept it off and is happy so far as I can tell. Best wishes for you to do at least as well. Best regards, RA1

Certainly in danger of being accused of hijacking this thread I feel compelled to comment on this diagram. I have never thought that a washing machine would have TWO motors in order to facilitate the agitation of clothes. I have never seen such and so far cannot find any reference that suggests such. Not that I am a washing machine expert. Far from it, merely a user a couple of times a week. However, machinery has and always will fascinate me. I always seek to know how it works. I think most modern washing machines use ONE motor with a transmission or clutch arrangement to agitate clothes. Regardless of all that, this forum seems to use many posters to agitate. Yes, the protesters had some effect but it was the unforgivable actions of LBJ et al who did us in. Going to war to limit it is ludicrous. Go in it to win or don't go. Best regards, RA1

It is very sad that our schools are not safe. How do you propose to make them safe? I know of no sure fire way to make individuals take responsibility for their actions. Better parenting could be a start. Best regards, RA1

If you cannot fit into one seat, the airlines will charge you more (for two seats). Sometimes I think this is worth it to avoid having a smelly or other wise offensive person sitting next to me. However, I can foresee hassles unless you readily take up two seats (which you paid for) and refuse to move. And, can you really get away from disagreeable odors, foul air, etc. in a closed up aluminum can when management has instructed to turn off packs unless absolutely necessary> Packs means how often and how fresh the circulated air is. Airlines in their stinking wisdom have done more for charter and corporate flights than one can easily imagine. Unfortunately these are still very pricey. Best regards, RA1

Many years ago I went around the world with two bags either of which would fit under a seat, the other in the overhead bin. One had charts and other aviation stuff I needed. The other clothes, etc. I was gone for 15 days. Washed my clothes once. Now I need about 60 pounds of stuff just to go to the grocery store. Best regards, RA1

I always wanted some beachfront property in Memphis (elevation 331). I realize this is a serious situation but it has taken 400+ years to get this way (Industrial Revolution) and I don't think we can solve it during our life time even though you intend to live forever. Have any actual or realistic solutions in mind? Besides cuddling up with a toothsome boy and thinking things over? Best regards, RA1

United did the same thing several years ago with flights between AKL (Auckland, NZ) and LAX. They were the only carrier with daily service and it was via 747-400. It was always full of people and cargo. They decided the ETOPS (long over water version) 777 was the way to go. Smaller airplane and the FAA required them to actually carry more fuel in reserve than the 747 (at first). Eventually the 777 started to save a few gallons of fuel on this route but was always a smaller aircraft with fewer seats and less cargo capacity. As you say, how silly management can be at times. Both Sully and TJ Shultz were trained to land aircraft with unforeseen problems. No one in the industry thinks either one is a hero, they just had challenges which they successfully overcame. In other words it was not a routine day at work but it was still a day at work. Best regards, RA1

It seems that you have not suffered the many and varied effects of this surgery. Good. I have had friends who suffered diarrhea and many other effects. These diminished after time but did not disappear altogether. I hope that yours did not occur or, if they did, disappeared completely and soon. Best regards, RA1

Thanks for the reply. Wow, any US airline pilot, including those just hired, make a good deal more than that. Best regards, RA1
