Welcome back!! You probably saw that you were asked about & worried about in another thread just a few hours ago. Our thoughts are with you.

One gropes to recall some long-ago-imparted distinction 'twixt two categories, relative to bones: (1) Words (2) Sticks and stones Following the nursery rhyme's wisdom, guided missals remain legal in New Haven. P.S. One is not unsympathetic to your cringing at the diminished opportunities for litigation.

This issue of locking threads in absence of a clear TOS or privacy violation reminds me of the great Politically Correct Speech debate that swept the college campuses in the late '80s & early '90s. In that era, my grand old Yale convened a committee that spent like a year thinnin' about it. In the end they came to the conclusion that: No speech shall be banned on campus. Not even blatant hate speech. (Except for the very few exceptions that were already disallowed under law -- active incitements to violence, mainly.) They concluded that the answer to speech, even the most hateful and intolerant, is -- more speech. That this is the way to change people's minds. Not by cutting off the dialog. I was, for once, floored by the wisdom of a committee.

The other place they get you is norovirus. Never been on a cruise but in the abstract the notion strikes me as No Exit.

Everything's Bigger In Texas – Boytoy's Gay Guide To Austin

Only too true! (There is some pun here about "Gaulle-ing" but I will resist. ) -

No, he had no idea how to do anything useful. ...As I said, he taught at the Sorbonne. Actually, he developed some software that was subsequently used to design French fighter aircraft. So I take that back. -
Everything's Bigger In Texas – Boytoy's Gay Guide To Austin

Pregnant phrase. (In Paris consulting one time, I was with 2 software execs who were also mathematicians. Talking about a highly regarded colleague who taught at the Sorbonne, one said: "Does he have a Ph.D.?" The other exclaimed: "At least!") Counting down the countries: One of the best-hung escorts I ever hired was a tall statuesque M2F TVTS in NYC who was from Somalia. What a beauty. -

I can. OZ is correct. -
Well, accomplishing anything useful today is shot. Just came across the Dead Sea Scrolls Digital Library: http://www.deadseascrolls.org.il/ (Posting in this forum needless to say on account of personally regarding all the world's so-called sacred texts as literature not revelation.)

Looks like Quote function in mobile version is still buggy. Will switch to full version on phone when using Quote function.

Because we have this thing called the Constitution. Life guards and elevator repairmen are not, to my knowledge, generally engaged in subverting it. In contrast, as the Economist article details, to our current elected officials. A personal example may help: In some imaginable future national crisis, the Constitution -- providing it has not been nullified by a continuing series of violations like those we are complaining about here -- may be the only thing standing between you and an internment camp adjacent to Area 51. U.S. citizens of Japanese descent learned during WWII just what can happen when that dusty old parchment is disregarded. Likewise Lincoln's suspension of habeas corpus; likewise Adams' Alien & Sedition Act; the list goes on. These are not just abstract dangers.

Uh oh. You should know that our hitoallusa is the site's resident shoe fetishist. You two really should meet.

hito, one more try: What are you talking about? "Trained" and "authorized" applies just as surely to the officials of any totalitarian state. The Waffen SS; Himmler, Goebbels, Mengele. Stalin's NKVD. How does that guarantee anything? As for singling out a historical character to say of him that he didn't expect technological advancement, I think Ben Franklin is the one human out of the entire race (OK, Leonardo too) whom I would hesitate to use as an example. (Irrelevant example but not completely: When he heard of the discovery of the planetary magnetic lines of force, he immediately wrote to the effect that "once we have chairs that can transport us through the air, perhaps these magnetic fields can be used as an aid to navigation." Imagine!) More relevantly, he did get the U.S. Post Office set up and running, so he did have some far-seeing thoughts about long-distance communication and information dissemination in general.

This is how attempts to Quote come out on my iPhone 4S after the malware recovery. I put a note in the Site forum about it; OZ says the coder Saurons and Sarumans are aware of it. I offered to sacrifice a goat to aid their good offices.

hitoall, you know our defense budget is bigger than the next X countries put together, and despite some slippage our industrial and technological prowess remains more than adequate to cook up Stuxnet (yes, with a little help from Siemens, but still). Etc. Clever assassins with box cutters there will ever be, and they do get cleverer, to be sure. But do you really think Franklin and his broke rag-tag Colonialist compatriots, facing then the world's mightiest empire, did not feel perhaps just a wee bit more peril than we do today? And yet he could say what he did.

In the great malware recovery, the reply-with-Quote function now works differently. The quoted poster's name is no longer displayed. And (using FireFox under Win 7) I no longer see the quoted matter held within exposed formatting commands while posting; instead it is only displayed as Indented text, to set it off from my new post text (not indented). The lack of visible formatting commands makes it easy to corrupt the quoted text by inadvertently backspacing into it, and likewise difficult to edit inside of it without corrupting it. On my iPhone 4S, conversely, the quoted matter shows up in the new post with all its formatting tags written out explicitly, rather than performing their formatting functions. Even if I don't touch or alter the quote block in any way.
