  1. On the face of the statement it seems like nonsense to me but there is so little to go on other than a what seems a apparent contradiction at one level, hence the nonsense. Personally, I believe that blind belief in supreme being/religious dogma is tied to brain wiring much like sexual preference is. Otherwise I cannot explain why educated and apparently intelligent people buy into the premise.
  2. You just knew this was coming.
  3. Rick Santorum Promises War On Porn Industry By Leigh Owens The Huffington Post | Posted: 03/16/2012 Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum has promised to initiate a war on porn if elected. “America is suffering a pandemic of harm from pornography. It contributes to misogyny and violence against women. It is a contributing factor to prostitution and sex trafficking,” the former Pennsylvania senator wrote in a statement posted on his campaign website. Santorum has chosen the porn industry as his latest target in his effort to be viewed as the most conservative candidate in the GOP primary, ahead of opponent Mitt Romney. He believes that current obscenity laws should be more stringently enforced. “Current federal ‘obscenity’ laws prohibit distribution of hardcore (obscene) pornography on the Internet, on cable/satellite TV, on hotel/motel TV, in retail shops and through the mail or by common carrier,” Santorum wrote in the statement, adding that these laws should be “vigorously enforced.” The statement also took the opportunity to slam the Obama administration and its handling of the issue so far, stating that the president has “refused to enforce obscenity laws” and that the Department of Justice "seems to favor pornographers over children and families." Not everyone agrees with Santorum's analysis of how the industry affects Americans. Steve Chapman, a writer for the Chicago Tribune took issue with Santorum's claims, which he describes as "just wrong." "Santorum doesn't seem to notice that as porn has become ever-more available via the Internet, the prevalence of rape has plunged. Since 1991, the national rate has fallen by 86 percent -- compared to a decline in overall violent crime of 65 percent," Chapman wrote. The porn industry is a billion-dollar-a-year business nationwide, and with the rise of the internet and technology it has become one of highest-grossing industries in the world. 4. Just wash in hot water and dry on the cotton cycle. Guaranteed to do it.
  5. Ditto. It will be interesting if they can sustain the tension over a longer term. This type show usually has to play out in several episodes at most or turn into soap opera. I'll be watching to see which way it goes.
  6. Democratic Senators Issue Strong Warning About Use of the Patriot Act By CHARLIE SAVAGE Published: March 16, 2012 WASHINGTON For more than two years, a handful of Democrats on the Senate intelligence committee have warned that the government is secretly interpreting its surveillance powers under the Patriot Act in a way that would be alarming if the public or even others in Congress knew about it. On Thursday, two of those senators Ron Wyden of Oregon and Mark Udall of Colorado went further. They said a top-secret intelligence operation that is based on that secret legal theory is not as crucial to national security as executive branch officials have maintained. The senators, who also said that Americans would be stunned to know what the government thought the Patriot Act allowed it to do, made their remarks in a letter to Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. after a Justice Department official last month told a judge that disclosing anything about the program could be expected to cause exceptionally grave damage to the national security of the United States. The Justice Department has argued that disclosing information about its interpretation of the Patriot Act could alert adversaries to how the government collects certain intelligence. It is seeking the dismissal of two Freedom of Information Act lawsuits by The New York Times and by the American Civil Liberties Union related to how the Patriot Act has been interpreted. The senators wrote that it was appropriate to keep specific operations secret. But, they said, the government in a democracy must act within publicly understood law so that voters can ratify or reject decisions made on their behalf even if that obligation to be transparent with the public creates other challenges. We would also note that in recent months we have grown increasingly skeptical about the actual value of the intelligence collection operation, they added. This has come as a surprise to us, as we were initially inclined to take the executive branchs assertions about the importance of this operation at face value. The dispute centers on what the government thinks it is allowed to do under Section 215 of the Patriot Act, under which agents may obtain a secret order from the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court allowing them to get access to any tangible things like business records that are deemed relevant to a terrorism or espionage investigation. There appears to be both an ordinary use for Section 215 orders akin to using a grand jury subpoena to get specific information in a traditional criminal investigation and a separate, classified intelligence collection activity that also relies upon them. The interpretation of Section 215 that authorizes this secret surveillance operation is apparently not obvious from a plain text reading of the provision, and was developed through a series of classified rulings by the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court. The letter from Mr. Wyden and Mr. Udall also complained that while the Obama administration told Congress in August 2009 that it would establish a regular process for reviewing, redacting and releasing significant opinions of the court, since then not a single redacted opinion has been released. 7. #3 works for me.
  8. Not her, not now anyway, not without shopping. She has a much leaner body now with definition.
  9. The Fed's big gun for inflation is raising interest rates. The Fed's big gun for the economic growth is low interest rates, continuing. So inflation sort of puts those rates between a rock and hard spot. Choose your poison. For now, they will wait and watch.
  10. Looks like fun.
  11. Could you expand a little on your Viet Nam experience. We have had some interest posted in the past with little to no feedback. So anything would be helpful. Thanks.
  12. The establishment only wants to consolidate behind Romney of the present candidates. They do not trust Gingerich and they fear that either Gingerich or Santorum would result in a landslide loss.
  13. Short of Gingerich and Santorum conceding, probably not.
  14. Good for him. It's about time that people, especially people in authority, transcended the usual hyprocracy in the workplace. Making porn is legal. Viewing porn is legal. Many many millions of people buy or otherwise view porn in this country with the advent of the internet-- straight people, gay people, single people, married people. Many of those who would argue that a prior history of involvement in porn disqualifies someone from becoming a teacher, policeman, fireman or whatever are consumers of porn. Application of their standards to their own lives would disqualify them as the same or even as parents. A person's history is just that -- history. There are prior acts that do disqualify people from holding certain positions -- comission of murder, mayhem, drug running and the like seem appropriate disqualifying prior history. There are others as well. Bottom line, unless someone has committed significant crime, if he is qualified to hold a certain position and practices the ethical standards that position requires then his past history should not be disqualifying factor unless it bears on his competence to execute the responsibilities of that position. In addition, I'm sure that he is quite appealing to many men and women. No doubt his video sales confirm that.
  15. I thought Santorum was a one-man cult, a twisted f**k. Guess I have to revise that as a one-family cult. Excuse the guy watching the sideshow. Who could blame him.
  16. Seems like your search your a home was very successful and reaffirming. The best part as unintended consequence... no moving expenses.
  17. It might be fun if it weren't rigged. Call me when they get Price-Waterhouse, or whatever that outfit is called these days, to run the contest.
  18. What does this have to do with the subject line?
  19. Sounds like something I'd be interested in if I were there. Is this a first-time event? Just wondering 'cause some of these can be disappointments.
  20. Most attack ads are based on spin, lies, and half truths. Thus attack ads are less problematic for the incumbent unless there are pics with a dead women or live boy. He's been in office, people have seen his act. They know him for the boogie man he is or isn't. Not so easy to make up shit about him. Not that they wont try, but this really appeals to be base which won't vote for him anyway. The middle who decides elections either approve or disapprove or like better or worse than the opponent -- the 'devil you know' thing.
  21. This is actually great PR. First, believe no polls before Labor Day. Most of the voting public is unengaged until then. This is great because it energizes the base to not take this election for granted just because Mass. is Mass. The GOP will throw all they have at it. There is no time for resting on laurels or believing The Great Progressive Commonwealth would not deny Warren. Organization on the ground is the key, and the key to that is money, more money, and dedicated foot soldiers. This should motivate the fund raisers and the troop organizers.
  22. Romney is such an embarrassment to himself and the conservative wing of the GOP. Over the weekend a 2009 OpEd urging Obama to adopt the National Mandate and design his health care on the Romney Mass Plan. Kantor on Morning Joe was asked about Romney's OpEd and his often stated position that his Mandate was only for Mass state solution, not national. He praised Romney and used many words to say: "I believe what Romney has to say today." The problem Mr. Kantor is: will you believe what he has to say tomorrow? They had tape on this AM showing Romney at a campaign stop singing/murdering some idiotic song so he wouldn't commit a gaffe by speaking or answering questions. PATHETIC!!! At least he wasn't murdering America The Beautiful this time. The Conservative GOP Pols have really pissed in their soup by pushing/leading and otherwise holding the hand of the extreme base over the last three years. They have made all of the serious conservatives unavailable this go-round because serious conservatives would not allow themselves to be pushed to the extreme right wing edge, thus marginalizing them in the Primary process. Latest polls, coinciding with the contraception debate, have the conservative suburban women dropping the GOP candidates and party affinity like hot potato.

    why?

None of your posts have been deleted. Your post was removed to the Moderator's Forum while I investigated what was going on. It was the first thing I had seen about the topic today, thus I had no background on the where and whyfor of your post. After looking into the resurgence of this topic I made the decision that your post was a legitmate post about a current event. I moved it back to what I considered a more appropriate Forum where other threads on the topic reside. It seemed the better venue. I posted a similar response in your thread now residing in The Buffet.
  24. Unfortunately, I believe the fish is only good for animal feed or maybe even just plant fertilizer.
