Al "Qeada" Gonzalez approved the firing of the US attorneys
TampaYankee replied to a topic in The Beer Bar
>I agree with Conway on this one. I have to disagree this time. >Just a witch hunt about >something that has gone on forever in this country. Possibly. The arbitrary replacement of US attorneys... definitely -- probaby since Jackson. Maybe before. I don't quibble that he has the power of removal for cause or arbitrarily. However, if the removal is in support of political abuse of the opposition or to obstruct an investigation of criminal behavior by his own party members, then I think there is grounds for investigation to shed light on the facts. There is more to consider than whether he is on firm constitutional ground. Not all corruption is illegal. That doesnt necessarily make it any the less corrupt. Sometimes we have to leave the case to the Court of Public Opinion. And if it is a Tempest in a Teapot, they will see that too. In either case they need the facts for a determination. -
A reasonable request. I am having the same problem with my admin login. How about 60 min?

Problem with new review for HunkNtheHay

Thanks, we are investigating. -
lawyers excepted! >I don't intend to cause any offence or insult nor do I... >however when you cut through the layers of pretence and the >occasional escort star, this is not a career or profession >that's high on the integrity stakes. You wield a broad brush skater. I might agree more wholeheartedly if we were talking ten years ago when only street guys were out for a quick trick to feed a need. With the advent of the internet the 'profession' has opened up to college kids, young professionals who dabble part time, those dedicated to full time professional service and others. The street scene has died pretty much along with the evaporation of the trade that made it. Also, I would point out that there is a symmetry to the enterprise that cannot be overlooked. Escorts need clients. There is nothing more inherently undesirable about escorts than there is about clients. They are yin to our yang. Some would argue that clients are a coarse type and pathetic souls. Cheating on wives, misfits loosers stooping to pay for sex etc. not to mention the few that try to beat the escort out of his fee or no show appointments which might be characterized as acting out lying. I know or have met many clients. Very few have struck me that way -- not that they don't exist at all. Generally, every group has its share of bad apples. I think it is just easy to fall back on old stereotypes for other groups with which we only have occasional contact. BUt we are intimately familiar with our own group. And our group it is upstanding for the most part, else we wouldn't associate with it. Right? In the end character is statistically distributed among the members of the human species based on their individual make up, not on what group they were born into or job they hold. That is my view anyway.

I suspect that the entry shows that Scott made the last post but the last post was lost in the crash. Why wasn't the record lost that Scott made the last post? I have no idea. On the best sunlight day DCforum software is totally inscrutable.

>TY, I get the same result...white screen editing in both >collapsed and expanded formats. I back click and get the edit >page again then click top to get out of it. The edit took, but >the correct process of updating failed. > I am at a loss to understand this behavior. I have absolutely no problem in collapsed mode. All I can say is hold on until we get the programmers into the forum issues. We have a list of items under investigation with review and profile issues at the top. Thanks for your patience.

No, it was something I read. :7 Sorry, I'm seeking humor anywhere I can find it these days, no matter how thin.

>Maybe we can lend you our Jonathan, one hotshot young php >guru. > Maybe... Hot, young, guru... what's not to like!! }( Thanks for your conern. :7

Thanks for the concern. Much appreciated. We prefer at this time not to comment on what measures we are undertaking other than to say we are working the recovery. Thanks again. TY

Thanks for the nice words. TY

I havent noticed this problem yet. Please make sure that you are in 'collapsed' mode when tryint the update. I mention only because of all the setting you toggled to observe what others reported. Thanks.
-
>So I clicked on "collapse topics" to go to linear >mode. Suddenly -- wonder of wonders!! -- I could click on any >thread or any post and see everything as expected. > BG, I only use the 'collapsed' mode so I didn't know about this issue until notices came in. I dont see why you have to go to linear mode. Threaded/collapsed works fine for me. >And it points out that the problem is with the >"expanded topic" mode. > Agreed. TY

>Thanks for the road map Barry. I can now state without >question that I do not have the "view all" link. >Maybe that's a piece to the puzzle effecting other things or >perhaps just a result of other things still being worked on >and out. > It only shows if you have selected the 'Expand Topics' mode. See line under the line Top -> Pub, the second entry 'Expand/Collapse' topics toggle. Choose 'expand' and then you will see in the thread topic [view all]

Yes, we are aware but it slipped by me to mention. Thanks for pointing that out. These will be restored after the other items.

>FYI as of now, I can access the forum in the threaded mode, >but none of the individual posts. No access problems in the >linear mode, but posting seems to work only sporadically. > Thanks. We are aware and will get to this as soon as other priorities are taken care of. Our email is back up including client emails to escorts initiated from profiles or reviews. We are still recovering some of our admin software including featured persons display, new reviews posting, and photo upload management. >Because of the alphabetical order I can't tell fast whether >all the NYC escort profiles are there. Thanks to the >chronological mode, it's obvious that all NYC escort reviews >dated after 2/2/07 are missing. Is the same true in other >cities? Would it help Management to know? > >Mostly because one of them was mine, I know that all reviews >in the Latest column dated after the morning of 2/22 are not >there. > The last reviews posted for Bryan_NYC and ScottAdler survive. However they were posted after our backup. They will be reposted when our review management sofware is fully functional. We believe we have all reviews posted as of Feb 26, the date of our last backup. We have all reviews received up through at least mid day Feb 26 as well. Any reviews received after that are lost. Fortunately our backup was a day or so prior to the crash so few, if any, items were lost. >Note to TY: I have already forwarded you my review that is >missing from the Latest column, in case it's helpful. There >is another that I submitted, but that you had not posted when >the hackers struck. I will forward it only if you say you >want it. Stu, we are all set with you. In addition to Bryan, we have another review for you in the queue. Thanks to everyone for your patience and understanding.

>Congrats on a pretty speed recovery. > Thanks but that may be a bit premature. We do have one oar in the water but several things are not back yet: email issues, new reviews, featured persons, etc... We have to go through the system from the ground up. To add to the load, our sister site GayThailand.com was also taken out. Both sites are under recovery by our software team. >One note: I cannot access any post by clicking on them -- the >only way to view or reply is through the "View All" links. Thanks. We are aware. But we appreciate the heads up. We are still evaluating the damage and disconnects. Any helpful comments about performance issues are greatly appreciated.

We are still in the process of recovery. The patient was brougt back from beyond the brink. We have strong vital signs, heart rate, blood pressure, pupil focus and iris is responsive to light. I hear grumblings of an appetite stirring but we are not ready for the full marathon run quite yet. Please bear with us.

Please hold the review for now while we get everything back ship-shape. If you wish, write the experience while fresh in your mind and save. I don't want to put anyone to all of the effort of a submit yet just to have it disappear into the unknown. We need to test our recovery state before advocating business as usual. Hopefully only a few days hold. Thanks.

Our servers were attacked by hackers and effectively destroyed. We have moved to new servers and we are restoring the site from backups. We are working as quickly as possible to bring the site back up to full effectiveness. So far a cursory review indicates profiles, reviews and messages, as of the morning of Feb 26, seem to be back online. However we are still evaluating the extent of the damage and the progess of recovery as it proceeds. Some intermittent anomalies may remain in login and forum access. Please try a couple of times if necessary. What looks like a failure is actually success. This is seen after using the back button from the error page to reveal your login message on the home page. Please bear with us. It will take us time to achieve a full port of all services to the new servers and a complete recovery. Thank you for your patience. The MER Management Team

>I wonder if our diminishing comfort >level with our politicians has more to do with the fact that, >as we grow older, we are more contemporaries with these men >than we were with the previous examples that you cited. Maybe, but I'm not convinced that is all or even the main reason. With age comes experience and with experience, the long view that penetrates the surface. Those that live longer have seen more and had more time to reflect on that seen. It is not essential that this come through longevity and acute oberserver status. It can be gained from a study of history and insightful analysis but few take the time to invest in such research. Yet all of us take the time to acquire the experiences and observations of our lifetime. With experience we learn to look beneath the styling of an automobile and inquire of the safety performance and reliability, especially under adverse condtions -- or we should. So it is with our leaders. There is more to consider than just views on issues. Anybody can sail a ship in calm weather. We need a captain that also brings us safely through the storms. I respected Helms for the same reasons as you, I think. I doubt I would ever have voted for him but that would have depended on the alternative, ultimately. But, as you say, he was a straight talker. You knew where he stood. I respect that.

>Agree that Kucinich can be pretty compelling on the issues. >Sadly electability is and from here on out probably always IMO that is only a third of the recipe for a President and Commander-in-Chief. He also has to have the good sense to surround himself with knowledgable level-headed advisors whose advice he seriously considers, and he needs a steady hand that... "knows when to hold em, knows when to fold em, knows when to walk away, knows when to run". My modern era prototypical president is John F Kennedy. Not because I was captured by the Kennedy mystique. I was old enough back in the day to know he was rather unpopular in many sections of the country and the bets were not favoring his reelection possibilities. They mystique was, as yet, unformed. He was ahead of where the country was at that time -- to his credit. However, whatever his views, popular or not, he had the grit, steel, and brinksmanship to lead us through a Cuban Missle Crisis when lesser men might have committed us to a very long winter. Harry Truman qualifies as does Lincoln, Regan and Bush I IMO. These men were not all sweetness and light. Nor did I agree with all of their policies. But I felt they had a steady hand and a rudder deeply submerged in the water. I went to bed at night confident that prospects for seeing the morning or the next week were much better than good. I haven't had as much confidence in several years, especially when viewing the field of candidates that offer themselves up for consideration. Things have changed in some ways. The risks have changed, for the time being, from a moment of total conflagration to a chronic disease of insidious cancers popping up here and there with the potential for localized devastating catastrophes. IMO this era calls less for a General as Commander-in-Chief than it does for a Surgeon -- committed to first 'Do No Harm' and second, rooting out cancerous growths before they can metastasize. Interestingly, the recipe is essentially the same regarding views, receptiveness to knowledgable advice and a steady hand.

Your point is well taken and hasn't been lost on me. It has been in the queue to be placed as a separate site link with reference on the Submit Page. Until then I use this link to refer contributors to for information.
