Time will tell. I hope so. I've come to the conclusion that hope for the working man and the middle class lies more in the SCOTUS and in Congress or the Executive Branch. SCOTUS is not permitted the luxury of accepting legal bribes. Congress legally sells itself cheaply to the BIG MONEY Special Interests. The Executive is at best hamstrung by a compromised Congress and at worst leads the sell out of the Congress. The recent ineffectual Finance Reform Bill is just the latest example.

It shouldn't go without notice that this month marks five years since HooBoy's passing. It seems, to me anyway, that with regard to the community much has changed even though little has happened. To be fair change was afoot before he passed. It is difficult to say how his passing affected the long-term course of that change other than to say the community passion has diminished. One need only to consider that after only five years the anniversary of his passing has escaped notice pretty much everywhere... until now. On a separate issue, I'm sure HooBoy would be saddened at the state of affairs in Thailand on this fifth anniversary of his passing there.

This is why is was so important to have a Democratic President win the last election. Health Care was an important second reason even if it turned out to be a compromised start -- but a start nevertheless. McCain would have screwed up the SCOTUS for a generation. We would have truly been fucked over. Not to mention we would be in very bad Depression right now. Probably better for the Democratic Party but definitely much worse for the country. I look forward to a third justice appointment next year, hopefully more in the vein of Justice Stevens.

Twenty-five thousand copies of the first edition of a redesigned Blade will hit the streets Friday. The 40-year-old newspaper -- founded as a one-sheet newsletter in October 1969 just months after the Stonewall riots in New York incited the modern gay rights movement -- has published weekly editions under the name D.C. Agenda since Nov. 20, four days after parent company Window Media declared Chapter 7 bankruptcy and ceased operations. Working with half the staff of the Blade (which last year had 24 full-timers) and an array of freelancers, D.C. Agenda also relied on the generosity of lawyers, accountants, advertisers and readers from around the world, many of whom contributed pro bono or financial support, according to editor Kevin Naff. "A lot of people really have an emotional connection to the Blade, and the outpouring since it closed was overwhelming and was really what led us to carry on," Naff says. Gay Performer Dustin Michaels Choked To Death On Marijuana Bag During Arrest Andrew Grande a/k/a Dustin Michaels, a 23 year old gay porn performer choked to death on a large bag of marijuana, after being arrested by Bay County (Panama City Beach, Florida) sheriff deputies on Friday, December 11, 2009 after officers responded to a distrubance call. Grande was suspected of assaulting a a female subject following an argument. When deputies confronted Grande, they were able to place a handcuff on his wrist, and during the struggle they observed Grande attempting to place something in his mouth. The incident was recorded by a Tru TV crew who were riding along with Bay County Sheriffs deputies. After emergency medical technicians arrived, they removed the bag of marijuana from Grandes throat with forceps, officials said. Grande was taken to nearby hospital and pronounced dead, according to a Sheriffs Office news release. An autopsy was performed Friday afternoon and the preliminary cause of death is asphyxia due to obstruction of the airway by a foreign material, officials said. Prosecutors Say Harlow Cuadra Has ‘No Merit’ In His Appeal http://gayporngossip.com/?p=663 Prosecutors in a case in which a Virginia man was recently convicted and sentenced for killing a Dallas Township man in 2007 filed court papers stating his reasons for appealing his life sentence have no merit. Luzerne County District Attorney Jackie Musto Carroll and Assistant District Attorney Frank Barletta said in court papers that Harlow Cuadra’s complaints do not entitle him to relief. Cuadra, of Virginia, was convicted in March in the death of Dallas Township resident Bryan Kocis, who prosecutors say was his rival in the gay pornography industry. Cuadra and Joseph Kerekes, Cuadra’s business partner in an escort business and the production of gay pornographic movies, were arrested on May 15, 2007, in the slaying of Kocis, 44, in Kocis’ home. Cuadra and Kerekes were sentenced to life in prison. Kerekes had pleaded guilty to homicide charges. Musto Carroll and Barletta stated Cuadra’s complaint that autopsy photos were shown more than once at his trial were not objected to by his attorneys. The judge expressed his disapproval of the repeated presentation of the photos, and at that point they were not shown again. Musto Carroll and Barletta also state that admission of evidence of the transcript from a recorded conversation, which Cuadra opposes, appears to have no “authority requiring this court to give a cautionary instruction (to jurors) under these circumstances.” The prosecutors said other matters that Cuadra complained of on appeal in August require no argument because prosecutors already made their argument at Cuadra’s February trial and stand by them. http://www.timesleader.com/news/crime/court_briefs_11-20-2009.html
