  1. Also, be sure and set up alerts with your bank for any international transactions that are made on your card. You can then see the exchange rate that you received for the transaction and be alerted quickly if your card is compromised. I've been surprised when my card has been compromised despite all the precautions I have taken and I can quickly cancel it.
  2. I went to Bar Fama on a Saturday night a couple weekends ago for the first time based on this recommendation. I arrived around midnight and the place was virtually empty with 3 customers, including me. There were about 7-8 working guys outside the bar, most of them in the 18-25 age range, and they rotated in and out of the bar over the time that I was there. They were all fairly friendly, some stopping over to say hello, yet not overly aggressive. If you wanted a guy, the only place inside to go was the restrooms (they can be locked/private), or you could go to a nearby hotel by the hour. I could not find the area where an earlier poster mentioned that there was a railing with guys hanging over it getting blowjobs. While virtually empty, I was quite happy having met this 21 year old ripped guy who took out his 10 inch dick in the bathroom and then things progressed from there. A R$30 tip ($10 USD) to him was well worth it. Inspired me to meet another guy there, which I was happy to meet up with, but not quite as good as the first. It's a different scene yet can be very rewarding. Close to Republica area if you want to head over there after this bar. A couple photos of the inside of the bar.
  3. I think with all the new lighting that they put in for the World Cup/Olympics, which lights up Copacabana beach at night, some of us may have felt a little safer on the beach as the sun goes down. I've heard the stories many times about not going on the beach at night over the years and thought maybe things were a little safer. I was there a few months ago and was continuing to hang out on the beach at dusk with a Brazilian guy feeling relatively safe when one of the vendors came over to us and advised us to leave. He said it was really unsafe to stay on the beach even for a little while at dusk given the robberies that continue to occur. We were fortunately to leave without any incident. Badboy81 thanks for sharing your story to remind everyone.
  4. One of the guys I have known in Brazil for a long time asked me to be the Padrinho (Godfather) for his new born child. For a number of reasons, I plan on declining. I have been told that the obligations of a godparent are different in the Brazilian culture but I do not know what the differences are. Anyone know what the expected obligations of a godparent are in Brazil?
  5. Unfortunately not because things are improving.... Brazil's beleaguered currency rebounds after intervention threathttp://www.reuters.com/article/2015/09/24/us-brazil-crisis-idUSKCN0RO20F20150924
  6. After being told by the guys at Pointe not to come there on Monday but to go to the new sauna, Estacao in Botafogo, I decided to give it a try on Monday a couple weeks ago. The entrance fee was 30 realis and it was a 15 minute walk from the Botafogo subway station. The sauna is extremely small and when I arrived around 8:30 pm, there were two clients (including myself), two garotos working, the doorman, the bartender, the massage therapist and one guy taking care of the rooms. While generally nice and new (except the lockers came from Pointe), I don’t think the sauna will last long unless things change and a lot of garotos and clients start going there, but will be interesting to see now that this is Junior's only sauna . A couple pictures are below.
  7. I also found that HSBC gave one of the most competitive exchange rates when I used their ATM's. I've used Citibank, HSBC and Bradesco all within 10 minutes of each other on a weekend and received the best exchange rate from HSBC. Sorry to hear that they are pulling out of Brazil as they were my preferred bank when I was in Brazil. What other banks will let you take out 1000 plus reais per day?
  8. I saw this ad on netgay.com.br today for Thermas Estação. Does anyone have any information on the re-launch?
  9. "Most of the "nice" hotels are in Estadio or Poblanbo, which are over 3 miles out and yellow street cabs are not super safe in Columbia for tourists. English is non-existant." First, thanks for all of the great information. On the comment on the cabs, is it just that they potentially will overcharge you or other issues?
  10. Once you get the Brazil sim card, if you want to maintain it for future trip, you need to add money to your prepaid account usually at least once every three months otherwise the number will expire and you will need to get a new sim card once you return to Brazil. You can view your account online, along with the expiration date of the sim before you have to recharge, but be sure to get the password associated with your account when you are in Brazil (most cellular companies send you a text message with the password). You can recharge the sim account using one of the many services that allow you to "Top Up" accounts in foreign countries. One challenge I have had is US credit cards are often declined. If you have this issue, consider using Paypal if you have an account and it is an option on the site as it works with no issues.
  11. It sounds like you have gotten the advice you needed and are considering letting him go. As TomCal has said many times, these guys give Academy Award winnign performances so be ready if and when you tell him. You will have many tears (I have never seen so many grown men cry as I have with Brazilian garotos), countless messages telling you that he loves you and that he want wants to continue the relationship, pictures being sent to you and a list of reasons why things did not work out in the past but assuring you that everything will be great in the future. Remember that it's all just part of the performance. Knowing what to expect will help you deal with it.
  12. Please read TomCal's post here as it is summarizes it best: http://www.boytoy.com/forums/index.php?/topic/23290-2015-porto-alegre-and-rio/page-7#entry134945 We've all been there to one degree or another. From my experience, I've been fairly good about not falling for a guy, but the couple times I did, it was an emotional rollar coaster for me and neither had a good outcome with many requests for money, etc. Do your best to assess the situation and leverage others in the forum who have been there for advice and who truly understand.
  13. I think the restaurant the TomCal is thinking of near LeBoy is Eclipse.
  14. Keep in mind that Lagoa has different prices other nights as well based on whether you pay in cash or use a credit card. The initial bill they show you will have the higher credit card price, so if you are paying in cash, be sure and make sure you get the discounted rate that they are offering. It will be posted on the wall behind the front desk. For example, this past weekend it was 60 realis if you paid using a credit card and 50 realis if you paid in cash.
  15. I was in Porto Alegre and someone mentioned there is a new sauna in south Porto Alegre but they did not have the name of it. Does anyone know if that is correct and if so, any info on the new sauna?
  16. Thanks for posting the additional pics Tomcal
  17. Where at the railway station is the best location to pick up the working guys?
  18. Thanks for posting the new pic. Any other pics of Marcos that you can share?
  19. Thanks for posting the information. Any recommendations on the bars? What good hotels are in the gay area of the city and should one consider staying in that area? Thanks
  20. Here is another map to Mezzaninu.
  21. What is the going rate for a rentboy you meet at a bar for a session in Budapest? overnight?
