  1. Oh, how we miss Monty.
  2. Exactly Mac. It is used throughout Asia for messaging. Most people here know LINE but not WhatsApp or Messenger.
  3. Pardon granted -- sentence reduced to one year. Let's see where he spends it!
  4. Telephone hasn't been Telephone for years --- now CIRCUS. Maybe Balcony or Connections would be better.
  5. Really? I'm daily seeing advertisements on Facebook for Thailand insurance, up to 100y.o. with all sorts of options, out/in patient, accident etc. I was recently quoted, at my great age -- don't ask -- of 8K Baht per month for inpatient only with a large $ cap (I forget how much). It was with WRLife -- a U.K. based company with agents in Pattaya. But many similar ads. out there. Oh SORRY I just re-read and you're talking about TRAVEL insurance.
  6. UK pensions, when paid in Thailand, are locked at the rate when you retired. They do not rise when the pension rates in UK rise.
  7. Wow this board now has expert statisticians as well as bar stool virologists.
  8. Is it the BIB or the landowners that is the problem?
  9. What rubbish!
  10. I meant to type 'Airbnb etc. is illegal in Thailand unless lets are MORE than one month'
  11. Well said GIP. Some people think they know everything no matter how long the have been visiting here or attained a position on a message board.
  12. Don't forget that Airbnb etc. is illegal in Thailand unless lets are less than one month unless the property has an hotel licence. As far as I recall, the only person to be prosecuted is the landlord and not you.
  13. Don't get out much, do you?
  14. As I said above, Facebook is full of ads. for medical insurance in Thailand. I contacted several and they seem to be agents in Pattaya. I went with one, WRLife, because a farang friend here has a policy with them (a UK based company). We are both over 75. Policies as low as 8K per month.
  15. There are many ads on Facebook for insurances, some up to 100 y.o.. I just started on one called WR Life.
  16. Try viewing TNT 'Tim Newton Today' on YouTube daily. Nothing specifically gay but he tries to sort through all the various press releases puffs and rumours regarding various visas, political situations. He recently had a meeting with a top Elite executive and was given info which he is not allowed to speak about yet. His broadcasts are at 09:00 live daily (except Sundays when he has a 'Grumpy old Men vlogcast) and the comments section is also live so he might reply to you live 'on air'.
  17. If by suk, you mean Sukhumvit, there's absolutely no gay action in the area. Try Silom/ Suriwong. Have fun.
  18. I've had my SCB account for 22 years. Always (nearly) use internet banking on my desktop P.C. Only to find, yesterday, that it's no longer possible. One can only do it via the smartphone. How do I print out or view my monthly statements? Go to a branch if I can find one still open for 100 baht per page? Of course I wrote to them complaining and asking advice as to which other bank I should move my account to that still can do internet banking. Their copy and paste reply (ignoring my last question):- Regarding to your e-mail, we do apologize to inform you that there is no internet banking over website anymore. Due to some limitations of SCB EASY Net, certain services and enhanced security features cannot be further developed. SCB has therefore decided to discontinue the service. In this regard, the SCB EASY app is recommended for our customers instead, providing a better customer experience and more enhanced security for banking services and financial transactions, including facial recognition and PINs for authenticating transactions and more. SCB EASY Net in terminated on July 14, 2023 Does any member here have recommendations for another bank that can do internet banking on a P.C.? Oh, and incidentally doesn't close its possibility to pay by card or transfer or QR code at 02:00 so that all branches can interlink to headquarters or whatever they must do when many people are trying to pay restaurant or bar bills. AND they want a cashless society??!! Sorry, rant over but would appreciate advice or experiences from members.
  19. No more to tell -- they're dead.
  20. Yes mostly right about Rome club Peter. The two owners, partners, tried to reopen it as gay again when straight failed. No luck, gays have long memories. It failed. The two then moved to one of the islands and were murdered in their home. As stories go.
  21. You could try the bar/karaoke above Balcony Pub, Silom Soi 4. It is called HUGS.
  22. Dezz, I don't think there will be any action around the bars at 4 or 5. they usually open about 8. (except massage houses open all day). Silom soi 4 opens about 5 but not really for staff for hire. Good luck. P.S. those pesky people are all mamasans, male or female (if you can tell the difference)
  23. In English pubs, ringing the bell usually means 10 minutes last order time before closing, then closed. In European bars it means drinks for everyone in the bar. Thai bars it can mean same as European bars OR in some bars, drinks for staff on duty. Take care.
