  1. Pattaya is... well... at rest. Jomtien Complex deserted... Sunee looks almost post-apocalyptic in its darkness... Did not even try boyztown... This will be a restful weekend, hehe. By the way. - none of this stopped the persons of the middle eastern persuasion from being obnoxious on their motorbikes. Just curious: whatever happened to those South Asian "tailors" that would accost people on the streets? Gone, and not missed...
  2. What can I say.... I am overwhelmed with the good feelings and support here - as one person pointed out to me in private, the point is not to be negative about the experience, but just to take it as part of existing here in thailand... that there are definitely social forces at work here and they have an effect on the people who both work in and partake of the joys and pleasures provided here. so i am now in pattaya for the holiday weekend and i will go forward on my pursuit of pleasure here.... one thing that i want to re-emphasize (because the thread here became a bit more about me than i had intended..) is that Screwboys is really a "class act" -- no one pushed me to buy drinks for them, no one asked me for tips, no one pressured me - I stopped going to some Soi Twilight bars because I constantly felt that my space was being invaded by people hounding me (here that, Fresh Boys Bar) - you know I will now be a regular at Screwboys because their business model simply works for me! Maybe I should re-name this thread (or start a new one)!
  3. And one of my problems, I will admit it, is that I find "explicit conversation" to be, well... a bit crude.
  4. Thank you - I know that this will sound hopelessly naive to all of you, but when I hire someone at a bar for sex, I have the assumption that sex will really happen. Guess I need to re-examine some of my assumptions. (BTW: has anyone actually heard a bar worker say during the "negotiation" process that they do NOT do something? You know, other than the "he/I do everything" response)
  5. I love and honor your advice, but it is not always perfect. Ended up at Screwboys (on Patpong) last night - it was my first time there and it is a really impressive place. Much of it to be liked - generally reasonable prices, helpful non-pushy staff persons, and a wonderful assortment of guys. There were enough customers there so I did not feel as though all eyes were on me alone (which is cool) but not so crowded as to make the place uncomfortable. I put myself in the mindset of who would I have picked had I just walked into a massage place. One young gentleman did the whole eye contact/smile thing with me (which I really appreciate) so I gestured him over and took him off. But, well, all was not, alas, perfect. He was generally younger than I usually go for (but it fit my mood at the time)... Vietnamese guy (claimed to have been in BKK for 3 weeks), with minimal English, and sketchy command of Thai. But he had such a sweet face and disposition, and smooth, flawless skin ... yet, the "carnal" segment of the evening just was NOT good.... as in NOT GOOD AT ALL... he clearly does not want to be doing what he is doing to earn money, he tried to fake it, but really could not. Sigh. Which leads to a question -- I want to go back and off some other guys there that caught my attention. Is it bad form to "ignore" last night's guy, and just proceed? It feels downright rude to me, and I do not want to insult anyone... Or am I just overthinking this all? Thanks -- off to Pattaya for 5 nights at the Agate... guess I should start a trip report now that my jet lag is more or less in check.
  6. Appreciate your words of encouragement... I am a long time BKK vet so not sure why I am having this moment of uncertainty. Also, upon reflection, I think some of the problems I had with RentMen guys may simply have been due to language barriers, something I did not expect in these days of google translate!
  7. OK.... being selfish here - if you had to pick ONE (not that i am saying you should....) where would you (I) go?
  8. OK maybe it's just me... Perhaps I am (mistakenly) applying a New York sensibility where it does not belong. I wanted to make an electronic connection today with someone and I replicated what I usually do in the USA, I went to the RentMen site and looked at some profiles, sent some messages, received responses, began to make the logistics for meeting, and then.... nothing.... they just disappear. Is this unique to the RM site here.... or something I should expect when dealing with apps.... These guys are higher priced entities, so I expected a bit more "professionalism" in the process. Should I just go back to Soi Twilight.... and Nature Boy, et al? Curious minds want to know.....
  9. It's light-hearted fun. Sure, it's not great stuff but I am happy that it exists and is out there. An easy wake-up with coffee diversion!
  10. Does anybody know... Will this be one of those times of road-clogging movements of people? Or is it OK to expect just normal congestion around the country? (How might Pattaya be this weekend given the OP's helpful information....?) Thanks
  11. Hey guys - Last year you all were amazing in sharing your advice as well as listening to my exploits, adventures, and gripes - so looking forward to doing it again. I will be making my presence known in S.E. Asia for about six weeks arriving Sunday the 22 July - wondering what's going on and if any of you are around ... Last trip I actually met more guys via Hornet/Romeo than at the bars (about 70% non-commercial vs. 30% commercial, I would say) - still the case? Specifically - are the Super A/Nature Boy area bars still around? have they gotten any better? (any worse?) My go-to massage place has always been Arena - any place I should try? (My ideal guy is a lean, masculine type....more butch than twink...) And, of course, I keep reading about the demise of Soi Twilight - last year I made my feelings known about my problem with overpriced places with pushy staff - still the case? Looking forward to recovering from my longggg New York - BKK trip with some great fun.
  12. are the Super A/Nature Boy cluster of bars still there???
  13. k only wish... length of stopover in paris is 10 hours
  14. i am flying New York to BKK with a stop-over in Paris each way on Air France (10 hours going, 24 hours returning)... even though is sounds counter-intuitive, I did it last year and it was actually nice.... Arrive 21 July - staying for a bit more than a month.... and looking forward to reading your off-season report as well as soon contributing mine. BTW: I note that New York is actually hotter than BKK today - ugh.
  15. My annual sojourn this year will be the months of July and August... I am expecting to be drenched by rain at 4pm every day and by perspiration the rest of the time. But yet, every year I am there...
  16. actually i found a rather substantive difference between my visits from a few years back and those more recent ones - manifested perhaps most vividly in more aggressive requests/demands for tips by everyone/anyone who works at the bars: mamasans, waiters, head waiters, hosts... and so on down the line.... my visits tend to be brief because i just am not comfortable having to maintain a defensive mode against being harassed and harangued in a place that is supposed to be fun. but maybe this is all fodder for a separate thread.
  17. excellent words of advice, bkkguy, and while i kind of instinctively knew what you have said, it is helpful to hear it put the way you do. ... all of which makes me wonder about that whole A-list thing... here where I am (New York City), we have a pretty obnoxious contingent of A-Gays who, when push comes to shove, I avoid like the plague. vapid, materialist guys who spend all day at their glamor gyms (half of which, of course, is devoted to texting and checking their hair)... my self-presentation is kind of mature preppy but i tend to like a bit of scruff and less polish. i have had generally excellent experiences with massage parlor guys (although i would be curious to know what your favorite place is...), mediocre experiences with bar guys, and fair experiences with app/web site guys. maybe i just need to chill and continue having a good time however i find it!
  18. i absolutely agree that there is no given correlation between price and quality.... i am just wondering if there are any web sites or services that feature guys who have been (more or less) "vetted".... or guys who self-promote on the internet .... not an urgent need here, just curious.
  19. many thanks for this.... but, for one such as myself who has grown tired of the gogo bars for various reasons, are there services or web sites that might replicate that experience?
  20. Excuse the very awkward wording of the thread title... I am having trouble articulating my question in an appropriate way, because it definitely can be taken as offensive or arrogant, and that is not my intention here. Just to be clear. In New York, there are definitely several "levels" of finding meet-ups: there are the craigslist guys, the Adam4Adam guys, the RentMen guys, and so on. Do you think there is an equivalent "tiering" in Bangkok? To get to the point, where does someone go (either in real life or in virtual life) to find -- and here comes the problematic language -- a more up-scale type of guy - and that is coded language for a guy who might cost more but is more likely to be a more reliable source of enjoyment than some of the "maybe" types we tend to more easily encounter? Appreciate any thoughts....
  21. My last visit to Thailand was just a few months ago - my first in a number of years, since I changed careers, etc., etc. I had planned to re-create my old habits (I have made multiple trips each year for about 10 years starting in about 2000)... generally busy and fun days concluding with a visit to a Soi Twilight gogo bar of my choice.... BUT - it all seemed so different this past year. From the moment I stepped into the bar (Fresh Beach?) I was pressured to tip: the boys, the waiter, the second waiter, the mamasan... to buy drinks for everyone and their relative.... to buy another drink before I had finished my first... and so on and so on. Everyone was an obnoxious and pushy hustler. I would not endure this in any country... and certainly would never elect such treatment. I left, never to return, and went back to having fun at the massage parlors, on guys via Romeo and Hornet.... and guys that I encounter on the streets. No turning back - my Twilight activities going forward will be restricted to a leisurely drink at one of the terrace bars.
  22. masseur who i saw twice during my last visit asked for my phone number and gave me his - although i ran out of time in BKK before i was able to contact him i must assume he did not have in mind just a nice chat on the phone with me....
  23. thanks for sharing this... after my last experience in Soi Twilight I had given up on the idea of ever going into a "show bar" again.... I used to always go to Fresh Boys, and would usually off a guy for days at a time... I found the show a bit boring but not intolerable... however: during my last visit, I walked out half-way through the show.... the obnoxious head waiter (I believe he was) would not leave me alone - half way through a beer he must have asked me to buy him a drink no less than a half-dozen times and then started asking me for tips... meanwhile, all attention was paid to the giggling gaggle of chinese (i believe) female tourists who sat right up front i realized that i am too much a fan of thailand to have to be treated that way in a country i consider my second home (i am a new yorker...) i would love to find a non-Twilight destination, and will take your suggestion!
  24. i agree - but let's just say that my "disposition" at the time made it seem ok to me.... hehe....
  25. To me, the real advantage of using an APP for a car is that it totally removes the "negotiating" part from the process... which is very important to me. Although I use uber/Lyft often in the USA, I found GRAB to be better in thailand, and have used it in Bangkok and Chiang Mai - always been happy EXCEPT for a DMK - Pattaya trip - the app quoted me 2100THB the driver insisted on 2900... when I complained to grab, they blew me off.
