If I do take the train back (still undecided....) I may hop off and doing an overnight at Ayutthaya ... a place I have visited only once and briefly and which probably deserves some time... But, back to the issue of Chiang Mai itself... Always eager to hear recommendations from those who know it better than I do for adventures I should undertake....

Just a footnote to some of my previous posts on this thread... Went to ARENA yesterday (Thursday) and had probably the best massage-ecounter of my life. A guy I would marry (adopt?) if given the chance. We are now LINE buddies, so I expect to see him several more times. He goes by the name of "Gun", wears glasses, and, at least to me, is pretty much a perfect specimen. Not sure how much I should say here - but I am trying to cobble together a trip report.

Appreciate the spirit of this posting, and the reality check that it inspires. It helps me to be more emotionally prepared for the journey and to keep my expectations in check. That is a good thing... and I continue to look forward to the adventure, although I may opt for a flight back rather than round trip on the train. I am average sized.....180cm, 68 kg, so I think I should be OK.... I plan to bury myself in Proust, stare out the window.... appreciate being in a place of (relative) solitude... and think about food. I am being met at the station because the one thing I dislike most about Thai travel is stepping off of a plane, train, whatever, and being confronted by scammy taxi folk. Makes me nuts.

I don't mind if straight people come into my spaces, as long as they don't flaunt themselves.

So my experience with the Apps has been conflicting... I have an honest profile up on Romeo, Hornet, and Blued.... honest stats, honest pic, and available upon request... "revealing" pics - both in Bangkok and Pattaya the inquiries have been so frequent that I find myself going to stealth mode from time to time because.... sometimes, less really IS more. Breaks down into - crazy persistent (almost stalker-ish) guys looking for non-commercial encounters - who I have actually blocked on Romeo - but then much to my astonishment.... they show up on the other apps confronting me! Both in Bangkok and Pattaya many many commercial guys approach me as well... I have become cautious with them because I take my massage encounters seriously - one so-so Cambodian guy did a quick rub and tug.... one horny non -commercial guy in Pattaya met me for a quick encounter.... being approached by several guys in Bangkok as I write this... So, apologies if this is "too much information" - what is the take-away? Put up an honest profile and see what happens. They ar types out there for everyone... But really do not make the mistake of spending too much time staring at the screen. There will be others when you are ready!

Very much appreciate that, sglad! I am taking the BKK-CM day time train (one of my "bucket list" items to do...) on Tuesday and staying five nights at an apartment on Chang Klan Road.... I do have some ex-pat friends up there who are always eager to show me around, but the urban explorer which is deeply a part of my soul likes to be out and about looking for adventures on my own as much as possible. I will definitely be looking forward to seeing any words of wisdom from forum members and will, of course, share my news as well. Thanks....

Re: SPA BANGKOK So definitely "in the market" today and was planning on going to my usual Arena for what has always been for me a great experience.... Saw some writing here about Spa Bangkok in relationship to tantric massage work and my interest was piqued, so I visited their website and saw that they have a rather "special" business model - It seems that I have to purchase a membership in order to get many of their massages - True? Has anyone here done that? Has anyone used their place without a membership? Thanks!

Interesting point... Makes me wonder whether or not in my love/hate relationship with Pattaya the chance to be there but in a setting somewhat removed from the craziness might just be right for me.... but understand that "where I am coming from" is as a New York on a vacation away from a very intense urban setting. Sometimes the hustle/hassle of the "everyday" in Pattaya gets to me in a way that Bangkok-life does not. Know what I mean -- why should (just about) every interaction be a struggle there, right?

Just completed five night stay there, and I have nothing but good things to say about the place. The staff was particularly welcoming and always friendly, and I got the feeling that they were very happy to have a member of the "brotherhood" staying with them. But, yet, fickle minds want to know.... I have done my research and have found very little information about another place that I am curious about - the not exactly in Jomtien BAAN SOUY - their website is nice, but it seems quite expensive. Worth it, perhaps? Thanks!

vinapu -- i really respect your intimate knowledge of all these places... not sure what my guy's number is (i am a cultural anthropologist and numbers frighten me) but he is one of the "butcher" specimens.... sweet guy from Nakorn Pathom.... i would have much preferred to have sampled a masseur than a USB adapter last sunday but i seriously was intimidated by the lack of people outside Royal House - time for me to breeze by again, now that I have been able to locate it. BTW: spending a few days back "home" in BKK, then onto CM for a few... then back to pattaya - just letting you all know, seeing how i have a somewhat inflated sense of self, hehe! (another way of inviting helpful advice, particularly on CM)

i went back to winner bar (something like that?) on sunnee and found the guy that i had spent many weeks with during my last trip still working there - he was happy to see me, i was happy to see him! actually i tried to go to royal house sunday around 5pm.... could not even tell if it was open, so i got scared and did some shopping at tuckcom instead - my mistake????

Just to follow up... Last night I "voted with my feet" and passed by Scandic. Businesses (not just Thai) need to think about developing repeat loyal customers instead of simply maximizing cash spent at a one-time visit.

Is there one in particular you would recommend for someone (me) who like hunks more than twinks? Thanks!

Well, thinking that the initial 1500 was just the "cover charge" it is little wonder why Yut (or who ever) is so eager for my return!!

Postscript To me, Arena in Bangkok is the gold standard for a good massage place. They are transparent about pricing, have a good selection of guys, and I can get a really good massage with fun at the end. No hustle no hassle. Is that too much to expect here in pattaya??

I totally honor everything that you have written here and I tried to somehow inject humor in my rather unfortunate choice of a title by implying that it could have been my own OOPS that led to what happened. I know I should have been more vigilant in asking about the price up front but.... whatever.... The guy I was with was Yut.... from Khon Kaen... a real charmer and a great masseur. I just hope that I have not artificially raised expectations for compensation going forward, hehe. As for that "other" guy -- of a certain age -- well, he knew the specifics of my profession.... I guess we must of met but I have zero recollection of him. Zero!

Last year at this time, I weighed in on how pleased I was at the Agate hotel... Well, I am back! The places retains its very high standards (although the buffet breakfast could use a bit of a freshening up, hehe...) BUT they are definitely marketing themselves to a demographic other than the readers of this website. If you looking for a gay establishment as traditionally defined, this is not the place for you. But if a little bit of diversity is ok with you, for 1500B/night the place is super comfortable (and well located!)

Went to Scandic Massage in Boyztown last night... which was Sunday of the current long holiday weekend. Had not really intended to stopping there, was more like wandering the streets seeing what was going on when a young gentleman ("Yoot"?) who was particularly to my liking invited me in. Even though the session with him was not the best, I still have fond thoughts of him and would see him again.... (ahhh, when two tops collide, hehe) But my question is.... when I went in the person doing the $$ asked for 1500, which I thought was high for a massage fee but, hey, I am on holiday, etc., etc. Then I ALSO tipped Yoot, generously... Did I double tip him???? What do other persons here think of the place? The set-up is a bit "basic" but I appreciated the quality of the guys and, with some clarification on their pricing scheme, would go back. (BTW: there was one gentleman there who was, shall we say, a bit past his prime, who insisted that he knew me,,, even was able to recite a fact or two about me.... and was a bit too pushy about he and I having some time together.... Sound familiar?)

While I am responding specifically to ChristianPFC because he posed direct questions, I am also writing in response to issues other guys have put out here. "My" Viet guy was also the only one of the boys there that night who made a real effort at eye contact, bit he was not tall... very young looking (younger looking than I usually like), tattoo-free, smooth skin, bit of a "cereal bowl" haircut, very fresh faced guy named Minh (I believe #26)... told me from Hanoi.... Just as sweet as a button, and performs just about as well. No to get too explicit, but I have never had someone insist on a condom in order for him to receive oral. (Ugh...) The mamasan told me the expected tip was 2000 and that is what I, unfortunately, gave him.... and you do not have to admonish me for having done so... I have been beating myself up for it for days now. You see, I am a teacher.... I work with teenagers... and I just could not bring myself to not help him out. My bad. So I will certainly try not to repeat my error, but I am kind of surprised by what's been going on this trip. Lots of guys approaching me on apps for 1000B "massages" which are really just quick rub-and-tug sessions (not very satisfying)... I may stick to massage places where there is, at least to me, more of a chance to feel a connection. (My saga at Scandic in Boyztown soon to come...) Love all of you!

Will tonight be another early night for me? (My way of asking if I should not go out hunting the Sois for an open club...) I assume that this does not apply to massage places... true? Suddenly feeling some lower back discomfort I think!
