  10. Living in the time of Trump, this is feel good story of the week even if the final paragraph is a downer. From Thai PBS World The Thai cabinet decided today to grant Thai citizenship to about 483,000 migrants who have been living in Thailand since 1984 and children born in Thailand to parents in ethnic minority groups. Spokesman for the prime ministerā€™s office, Jirayu Huangsap, said today that, since these documented migrant workers have been working in Thailand for a long time, the cabinet feels that it is appropriate to grant them Thai citizenship, so they can travel freely and still beneficially contribute to the development of the Thai economy. He said that the Ministry of Interior will issue regulations within 60 days for the implementation of todayā€™s cabinet decision. The first group to benefit from the decision comprises about 120,000 migrants who have lived and worked in Thailand between 1984 and 1999. The second group comprises 215,000 migrants living in the country between 2005 and 2011. The third group comprises about 29,000 children born to ethnic minority parents in Thailand and the fourth group comprises about 113,000 children born to parents who are members of an undocumented minority. Chirayu noted, however, that it could take as long as 44 years to process all those applications for Thai citizenship.

  17. From Bangkok Post An automated biometric identification system using facial recognition technology will be implemented in six Thai airports later this year to let passengers show their physical ID only once. The system will be ready for domestic passengers on Nov 1 and for international passengers on Dec 1, according to operated by the Airport Authority of Thailand director Kirati Kitmanawat. To use the system, passengers will be required to allow access to their identification information when checking in at the counter or self-service check-in at the airports. The system will collect passengersā€™ biometric information and travel itineraries electronically, allowing air travellers to go from the baggage drop to the boarding gate without showing passports and boarding passes. Each registration is for only one journey. The six airports that will use the system are Suvarnabhumi International Airport, Don Mueang International Airport, Chiang Mai International Airport, Mae Fah Luang/Chiang Rai International Airport, Phuket International Airport and Hat Yai International Airport. https://www.bangkokpost.com/thailand/general/2891651/no-more-boarding-passes-facial-recognition-to-start-in-6-thai-airports

  23. From the Greek Reporter Archaeologists have discovered over 100 ancient graves at a cemetery in Hanoiā€™s Hoai Duc District, Vietnam. These graves are believed to be between 2,500 and 4,000 years old, shedding light on early Vietnamese history. The discovery was made by a team of researchers from the Vietnam Institute of Archaeology, Hanoi Museum, and the University of Social Sciences and Humanities. They found more than 70 graves that are thought to be about 4,000-years-old and another 40 that are around 2,500-years-old. These graves were uncovered in Kim Chung Commune, providing valuable clues about early life in Vietnam. The excavation, which began in late March and finished earlier this month, covered more than 6,000 square meters. The team dug 60 research pits, each measuring 100 square meters. According to researchers, Vuon Chuoi was once a village from the Metal Age, which started around 6,000 years ago. During this time, people began using metals such as copper, tin, bronze, and iron to construct tools and weapons. The village grew steadily from the late Phung Nguyen period about 4,000 years ago and continued to develop after the Dong Son period. https://greekreporter.com/2024/10/24/ancient-cemetery-found-vietnam-4000-years-old-hanoi/
