  2. From Pattaya News On September 10th, 2024, Mr. Atthawit Rakjamroon, the Acting Managing Director of the Thai Transport Company Limited, announced the company’s participation in a recent Thai-Lao road transport meeting. The discussions, held on September 4th-5th by the Thai Department of Land Transport and the Lao Department of Transport, focused on enhancing road transport cooperation between Thailand and Laos, including launching new tourism routes linking airports with high-speed rail services. In alignment with the policy of Thai Deputy Transport Minister Surapong Piyachote, Transport Company Limited plans to reopen all international bus routes and introduce new routes to connect with airports and high-speed rails. A new bus route from Udon Thani to Vang Vieng, via Udon Thani International Airport and Nong Khai, will launch in early November 2024. This route aims to facilitate seamless travel between the airport and the Lao-China high-speed railway, which has been temporarily suspended for upgrades. Studies are underway for five additional routes, including Chiang Mai to Boten, Bangkok to Savannakhet, Pattaya to Pakse, Pattaya to Vientiane, and Pattaya to Savannakhet, to offer more travel options between the two countries. The Transport Company will enhance ticket sales for all international routes through online platforms and E-Ticket systems. Currently, nine international routes operate between Thailand and Laos, with 92 daily trips serving around 3,000 passengers per day. The Bangkok-Pakse route will see an upgrade from standard air-conditioned buses to premium services, maintaining two daily trips. The Mukdahan-Savannakhet route will add three more buses, increasing the daily service from 13 to 17 trips. The Transport Company will increase staffing at the Nong Khai Immigration checkpoint on the Nong Khai-Vientiane route to improve passenger processing.
  3. From Pattaya Mail On September 10, Mayor Poramet Ngampichet confirmed that the installation of the 310-meter roof for the Bali Hai Pier walkway is on schedule. He stated, “Work is progressing smoothly and is set to be completed in time for the upcoming high season.” As part of Pattaya City’s broader development and renovation plan, this initiative focuses on key areas such as Bali Hai Pier, a major transit hub connecting Pattaya with Koh Larn and serving as a docking site for numerous tourist boats. The pier is a busy area frequented by tourists and locals throughout the year. “The steel framework for the roof is already in place, with roof panels expected to be installed soon,” Mayor Ngampichet noted. “This project is a crucial component of Pattaya’s infrastructure improvements, aimed at enhancing shade, safety, and the overall travel experience.”
  4. From The Thaiger A barber in the central province of Ayutthaya went viral on Thai social media for charging customers based on the size of their penis, rather than the length of their hair. A picture of the service price list at the barber shop in Ayutthaya was shared by numerous Thai news agencies and netizens. The pricing list stated, “Small penis 40 baht, Medium penis 60 baht, Large penis 80 baht, and Mo (modified) penis 100 baht.” The barber, 40 year old Apirak “Tee” Klinbuppha, shared in an interview with Channel 3 that he opened the barber shop just three months ago and received very positive feedback. He believed that the service fees based on penis size played an important role in attracting customers. Apirak explained that he had been searching for his dream job for over eight years and had worked in various industries before finding happiness as a barber. His shop, located near one of Ayutthaya’s popular tourist attractions, Prasat Nakhon Luang, was decorated in a vintage style to match with historical attractions. Apirak mentioned that he had not yet named his barber shop and had not planned any advertising for it. He did not expect the humorous service fee to make his business go viral, explaining that it reflected his personality. He described himself as a cheerful person who enjoys spreading good vibes. In the interview, Apirak explained the pricing system further. “The service fee actually depends on the customer’s age and hairstyle, like in other barber shops. I charge children, such as those in primary school, the small penis fee of 40 baht. High school students are charged the medium penis fee of 60 baht, while adult customers pay the large penis fee of 80 baht. Any customer wanting a more complex hairstyle is required to pay 100 baht.” Apirak added that he also provides free services to old people, people with disabilities, and young children. He emphasised that the humorous pricing wasn’t the only attraction, as he was confident in his skills and assured that every customer would leave satisfied. One customer gave a light-hearted interview to the media while getting his haircut. ‘I chose this barber shop because of the price sign outside. If I hadn’t seen the sign, I wouldn’t have picked this place. I’m curious to see how much it will cost because my size is quite impressive.
  5. From The Thaiger Finnair is giving winter travellers more ways to escape the cold, with a major expansion of its flight schedule to the Middle East and Asia. Starting this November, Finland’s flagship airline will increase its flights to popular warm-weather hotspots like Phuket and Dubai, responding to growing demand from European sun-seekers. From November 2, Finnair will operate daily flights from Helsinki to Phuket, up from the previous four per week. Likewise, its Helsinki-Dubai route will also increase to daily services, a big jump from the current three times a week. The move highlights the rising appeal of these sunny getaways, with Finnair catering to both leisure and business travellers, said an airline spokesperson. “These destinations are growing in popularity, and we’re excited to offer more flexibility for winter holidaymakers.” The expanded schedule strengthens Finnair’s already impressive network across Asia and the Middle East. 7. All the guys I've really been attracted to were/are otherwise straight. My best advice is to continue to take your cues from him. He definitely sounds curious. That he says he doesn't like ladyboys may be his way of telling you he likes men who aren't effeminate. If you find yourself in hot tub together at 3a.m., I'd jump on whatever pops up. Not an opportinty to pass on.🙂

  9. From VN Express / Straits Times Singapore has reported a rise in the percentage of travelers refused entry into the city-state since the introduction of automated immigration lanes at Changi Airport in May. Thanks to automated clearance, checks are carried out earlier and technology can be utilized more extensively, Minister of State for Home Affairs, Sun Xueling, said at a parliamentary session on Monday, as cited by The Straits Times. He did not provide specific figures on the increase. Minister for Home Affairs K. Shanmugam said in the parliament earlier on Monday about 2,500 visitors are refused entry at Singapore’s checkpoints for various reasons every month, according to The Straits Times. Since May, all foreign travelers arriving in Singapore, regardless of nationality, have been able to use the automated lanes at Changi Airport for immigration clearance. The system allows visitors to use their iris and facial biometrics for clearance without the need to present their passports. Singapore might be the first country in the world to allow all foreign travelers, including first-time visitors, to use automated lanes without prior registration, according to Channel News Asia. Singaporean authorities plan to install approximately 800 such automated lanes across all of Singapore’s checkpoints by 2026.
  10. From Pattaya Mail tax reform and the Golden Goose By Barry Kenyon Integrity Legal, an influential network of law firms in USA and Asia, has condemned the proposal of the Thai Revenue Department to tax Thai and foreign residents on their worldwide income irrespective of whether those monies are brought to Thailand. The current regulations (effective January 2024) permit only the taxing of “assessable” income actually transferred from abroad. In their latest video, the Bangkok-based firm points out that a worldwide policy ruling would strongly deter investment in Thailand, especially as Thai Revenue has no actual jurisdiction to control assets outside the country. If such a radical policy were to be introduced, it would first require a formal change in Thai law which is by no means a formality. Meanwhile Pichai Chunhavajira, the finance minister delivering a keynote address Shaping Tomorrow, said that current personal and corporate income tax rates remain higher than in competition countries and should be rejigged. He made no mention of the income tax situation for Thai and foreign tax residents. Not a single government spokesperson so far has endorsed, or even commented on, the Revenue’s radical proposal to tax worldwide income, even though first mooted last June. Social media in Thailand has prophecies that the issuing of annual extensions of stay are about to become dependent on income tax clearance in Thailand. There has been no confirmation from the Cabinet or the immigration bureau. Such a policy would present all manner of problems. For example, many holders of longterm visas, such as Elite, spend less than six months per year in Thailand, whilst notional tourists can easily exploit the new visa exempt rules to clock up more than 180 days in a calendar year. A person’s visa status does not magically show tax liability, or the lack of it. Thai Revenue, of course, has the role of recommending courses of action to increase national tax income. However, Integrity Legal’s warning that the Golden Goose is in danger of self-assassination illustrates the threat of continuing silence by government ministers or the Cabinet. As many expats threaten to quit living here and the national economy continues to struggle, the need for proper debate is already well overdue.

  17. From The Thaiger Pattaya City takes a significant stride in enhancing healthcare accessibility for night workers as Mayor Poramese Ngampiches inaugurated the Proactive Health Promotion Project for Night Workers yesterday, September 8. The launch event, held at Leela Club on Walking Street, gathered prominent city executives, including Nathamon Ajsong, Chairman of the Pattaya City Transformation Leaders, and Doctor Atthaporn Limpanyalert, Deputy Secretary-General of the National Health Security Office (NHSO). The initiative, a joint effort between Pattaya City and the NHSO, is designed to deliver crucial health promotion and prevention services to night workers over the next four months. Running from yesterday until December 20, the project aims to reach at least 5,000 individuals by visiting various locations across Pattaya City. Nathamon Ajsong emphasised the project’s goals, underscoring the critical need to make healthcare more accessible for night workers who often find it challenging to obtain medical services during regular hours. She explained that the project includes cervical cancer screenings using self-test kits, a measure that drastically reduces the necessity for hospital visits. Atthaporn pointed out the project’s alignment with the “Better Pattaya” policy, aimed at fostering sustainable tourism development. The initiative brings together government, public, and private sector network partners, creating a holistic approach to boosting public health in Pattaya. The project is set to cover a broad range of health services, including screenings and preventive care, tailored specifically to the needs of night workers. This demographic often faces unique health challenges due to irregular hours and limited access to traditional healthcare services, reported The Pattaya News. The choice of Leela Club on Walking Street as the launch venue underscores the project’s focus on reaching the heart of Pattaya’s nightlife industry. Walking Street, known for its vibrant nightlife, is home to many night workers who will benefit directly from this initiative.
