  1. Yes, I’m sure they adhere to same restrictions as other retailers.
  2. Don’t hesitate to state your specific requests to manager by phone or Line. There are ample shops around Silom and certainly Saphan Kwai where there are many Myanmar masseurs on call.
  3. From Thai PBS World Two more parties join Move Forward-led coalition Two more parties have agreed to join the coalition, led by the Move Forward party, bringing the number of partners to ten, with a combined 316 votes in the House of Representatives. Phicharn Chaowapatanawong, deputy leader of the Move Forward party, said today (Friday) that the Chart Pattana Kla party has agreed to join the coalition. The party won one constituency MP seat and one party-list seat. Earlier today, the Mai (New) party, which has one party-list MP, also agreed to join the coalition. Phicharn said that they will send the draft memorandum of understanding (MoU), to be signed by all coalition partners, to the two newcomers for review and to propose amendments, if they have any. A formal press conference and the signing of the MOU among the ten coalition partners is scheduled for Monday, May 22nd, which is the ninth anniversary of the coup that toppled the government of then Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra. The other eight parties are Move Forward, Pheu Thai, Prachachart, Thai Sang Thai, Thai Liberal, Fair, Palang Sangkhom Mai and Pheu Thai Ruam Palang.
  4. The Japanese discounter Don Don Donki has opened a large outlet on Silom Road at the mouth of Soi Thaniya. Two floors are crammed with almost anything you might need and it’s open 24/7. I took a quick walk through and was amazed at the variety. Food, beer, liquor, a ramen bar, housewares, socks, a noodle bar. It can all be found in the jammed narrow aisles occupying two floors.
  5. Maybe if you post photos of the road and manhole in question the mystery could be resolved
  6. On subject of gay videos, I found that Cathay Pacific entertainment package currently includes about half-dozen gay themed movies. One was classic “call me by your name”. Other one I like featured blind student who finds first love, set in Brazil. I think title was “the way he looks.” A third (whose title I forget) was about budding relationship between two rugby players.
  7. Someplace I read 180 days within any 365 day period is limit. But not sure if this is accurate.
  8. From CNN One country, two major airlines operating world-class long-haul fleets out of different major aviation hubs located close to one another. On paper, the United Arab Emirates’ ownership of two powerhouse global longhaul carriers with largely overlapping international air networks that converge so closely might seem an extravagance too far. Isn’t one enough? And so, the announcement by Emirates and Etihad of a new deal to work more closely will inevitably revive rumors of a potential merger between the two: something long discussed at a kind of academic level in aviation circles, particularly during tough economic times, but one potentially stymied by local politics – and the fact that their status symbol hub airports are an hour apart on the ground. Earlier this month, the two airlines, both still coming back from the disruption caused by the pandemic, agreed on a so-called “interline” partnership. The move raises questions about what that means for passengers, and whether a new regional super airline is finally on its way. Emirates and Etihad are both flag carriers of the UAE, the small Gulf country made up of seven emirates. Emirates, established in 1985, is based in Dubai and is one of the world’s largest airlines by most metrics. Etihad is newer, established in 2003 and based in Abu Dhabi. Dubai International Airport and Abu Dhabi International Airport are fewer than 150 kilometers (100 miles) apart and the drive between them takes around 75-90 minutes depending on traffic. By and large, the Emirati capital city Abu Dhabi is known for being smaller and quieter than its glitzy, livelier northeastern neighbor Dubai, but both certainly have their draws for travelers in addition to being regional economic centers. One of the big questions that pops up every time Emirates and Etihad are mentioned in the same announcement is whether it means a closer partnership – reciprocal agreements for frequent flyer benefits, codeshare flights and even a prospective merger. https://www.cnn.com/travel/article/emirates-etihad-interline-partnership/index.html
  9. From The Nation Move Forward leader Pita Limjaroenrat has announced he is ready to be the country’s next prime minister as his party scored a shock victory in the May 14 general election. “Dear fellow citizens, today I, Pita Limjaroenrat, am 'clear' and ‘ready' to be the 30th Prime Minister of Thailand,” the Harvard-educated Pita, 42, announced on Twitter at 2am on Monday. “We share the same dreams and hopes, and we believe that the Thailand we love can be better. Change is possible if we start doing it from today... Our dreams and hopes are ‘simple and straightforward’. “And whether you agree or disagree with me, I will be your prime minister. Whether you voted for me or not, I will serve you.” The unofficial vote count as of 10am on Monday (99% completed) showed that Move Forward had won 112 out of 400 constituency MP seats and 14.1 million votes for party-list MPs, narrowly beating Pheu Thai which also had 112 constituency seats but only 10.8 million party-list votes. Bhumjaithai Party was in third place with 68 constituency MPs and Palang Pracharath was fourth with 39 constituency MPs. Third place in party-list contest was PM Prayut’s United Thai Nation Party with 4.67 million votes, followed by the Bhumjaithai Party with 1.12 million votes. Pita said Move Forward will hold an official press conference at noon today, adding that he would head to Democracy Monument in Bangkok to thank voters for their support at 5.30pm.

  12. You'll definitely be hitting the airport train at rush hour but taxi would be worse option at that hour IMO. Luggage no problem but at crowded times it gets really tight. But you have the advantage of getting on train at beginning of line so should get seat OK. Easiest to pay with Thai coins or 100 baht bills for airport train and BTS / MRT. Get train on lowest level of terminal.
  13. Lol. Never mind. 🙂 (Have had only one cup of coffee this morning)
  14. From Thai Enquirer by Kevin Zhang and Napon Jatusripitak Since Malaysia implemented UNDI-18 last year which lowered the voting age from 21 to 18, it is apparent that young Malays are turning towards the conservative Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition. PN comprised primarily of the Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS), which champion for Islam to play a greater role in society, and the Malaysian Indigenous United Party (Bersatu), which seeks to maintain, if not enhance, the existing race-based privileges for ethnic Malays. As Malaysian voters are segregated into various streams in polling booths based on their age, the broad voting patterns for youths can be observed. Based on the available stream data, PN was the most popular coalition nationally among Malay youths, followed by Barisan Nasional (BN) and Pakatan Harapan (PH). The Malay youth vote played a vital role for PN (green) to expand into seats which were previously held by BN (blue) and to a smaller extent PH (red) in the recent 2022 General Election (GE2022). Map 1: Peninsular Malaysia parliament seats before GE2022 (left) and after GE2022 (right) *Vacant seats due to death of incumbent MP. Sabah and Sarawak are excluded due to different electoral dynamics and coalitions contesting. In contrast, Thai youths are gravitating towards the Move Forward Party (MFP), which campaigns on a progressive platform with an anti-establishment undertone. Its core policies include welfare policies, protection of LGBTQ+ rights, military conscription reform, and amendment of the lese majeste law. The MFP is the reincarnation of the now-defunct Future Forward Party (FFP), led by Thanathorn Juangroongruangkit, a wealthy and charismatic figure with an overwhelming social media presence and popularity among the youth. The greenhorn FFP arose on the back of overwhelming youth support in the 2019 General Election. In 2019, the FFP secured third place with 6.2 million votes, defying predictions by even the most informed experts. Although support for the FFP among Thai youths cannot be observed directly since polling in Thailand is not segregated based on age, this conclusion can be extrapolated from advance vote where FFP performed incredibly well among the outstation university students vote. After the Constitutional Court dissolved the FFP in February 2020, the party’s followers, many of whom are high school and university students, took to the streets to voice their grievances and resentment against the political system they saw as unjust. This youth-led social movement has created a powerful, progressive force that the MFP is now banking on for the upcoming general election scheduled in a weeks’ time. 16. From Thai PBS World Body of a missing teenage girl found in bushes in Lampang province Police in Thailand’s Lampang province have found the body of a 16-year-old girl who went missing on May 7th, when her Thai-English boyfriend was killed. Police and about 100 villagers searched a forest bordering Kho Kha and Sop Prap districts after the police received a tipoff from an individual who claimed to have seen the girl, known as “Pingpong”, being led into the forest by a man. At about 11am, the search team found traces of two holes in the ground, about 50 metres apart in the bushes. In one of them they found the body of a dead girl. The remains were removed from the shallow grave while the search team waited for the arrival of forensics officers. Police have already arrested a 44-year-old man, who is suspected of having killed a 17-year-old Thai-English boy.
  17. Well, if we follow your logic then Russians should choose between a paranoid ex-KGB operative and a paranoid ex-KGB operative. They do have choices in election, don't they? 😀
  18. Not sure what you meant by "acting president" but the title "Mr. President" is reserved solely for the individual currently holding that office and not former office holders. After researching this topic, there is no hard and fast rule for what you call former presidents. In the end, it's an honorific to call a former president "President X" if the person addressing President X chooses to use it. As for it being a privilege, the government has spoken about the subject of privileges of former presidents in the form of an act. And no where among those privileges is the manner in which he or she shall be addressed. Former Presidents Act (3 U.S.C. § 102 note) (a) Each former President shall be entitled for the remainder of his life to receive from the United States a monetary allowance at a rate per annum, payable monthly by the Secretary of the Treasury, which is equal to the annual rate of basic pay, as in effect from time to time, of the head of an executive department, as defined in section 101 of title 5, United States Code [section 101 of Title 5]. However, such allowance shall not be paid for any period during which such former President holds an appointive or elective office or position in or under the Federal Government or the government of the District of Columbia to which is attached a rate of pay other than a nominal rate. (b) The Administrator of General Services shall, without regard to the civil-service and classification laws, provide for each former President an office staff. Persons employed under this subsection shall be selected by the former President and shall be responsible only to him for the performance of their duties. Each former President shall fix basic rates of compensation for persons employed for him under this paragraph which in the aggregate shall not exceed $96,000 per annum, except that for the first 30-month period during which a former President is entitled to staff assistance under this subsection, such rates of compensation in the aggregate shall not exceed $150,000 per annum. The annual rate of compensation payable to any such person shall not exceed the highest annual rate of basic pay now or hereafter provided by law for positions at level II of the Executive Schedule under section 5313 of title 5. United States Code [section 5313 of Title 5. Government Organization and Employees]. Amounts provided for “Allowances and Office Staff for Former Presidents” may be used to pay fees of an independent contractor who is not a member of the staff of the office of a former President for the review of Presidential records of a former President in connection with the transfer of such records to the National Archives and Records Administration or a Presidential Library without regard to the limitation on staff compensation set forth herein. (c) The Administrator of General Services shall furnish for each former President suitable office space appropriately furnished and equipped, as determined by the Administrator, at such place within the United States as the former President shall specify. (d) [Repealed. Pub. L. 86-682, § 12(c), Sept. 2, 1960, 74 Stat. 730. See sections 3214 and 3216 of Title 39.] (e) The widow of each former President shall be entitled to receive from the United States a monetary allowance at a rate of $20,000 per annum, payable monthly by the Secretary of the Treasury, if such widow shall waive the right to each other annuity or pension to which she is entitled under any other Act of Congress. The monetary allowance of such widow-- (1) commences on the day after the former President dies; (2) terminates on the last day of the month before such widow-- (A) dies; or (B) remarries before becoming 60 years of age; and (3) is not payable for any period during which such widow holds an appointive or elective office or position in or under the Federal Government or the government of the District of Columbia to which is attached a rate of pay other than a nominal rate. (f) As used in this section, the term “former President” means a person-- (1) who shall have held the office of President of the United States of America; (2) whose service in such office shall have terminated other than by removal pursuant to section 4 of article II of the Constitution of the United States of America; and (3) who does not then currently hold such office. (g) There are authorized to be appropriated to the Administrator of General Services up to $1,000,000 for each former President and up to $500,000 for the spouse of each former President each fiscal year for security and travel related expenses: Provided, That under the provisions set forth in section 3056, paragraph (a), subparagraph (3) of title 18, United States Code [section 3056(a)(3) of Title 18, Crimes and Criminal Procedure], the former President and/or spouse was not receiving protection for a lifetime provided by the United States Secret Service under section 3056 paragraph (a) subparagraph (3) of title 18, United States Code; the protection provided by the United States Secret Service expired at its designated time; or the protection provided by the United States Secret Service was declined prior to authorized expiration in lieu of these funds.
  19. When they say it's not about Trump, it's about Trump.
  20. Really? When was the last time that Trump was correct about anything? 😄
  21. Unless you want to date them, it's probably good practice to keep arm's length from unknown amorous labyboys. From The Thaiger A ladyboy was arrested for stealing 10,700 baht from an Israeli tourist on Sukhumvit Soi 4 in Bangkok. A 63 year old man of Israeli nationality travelled to Lumpini Police Station late on Monday night to report that a ladyboy stole 10,700 baht from his pocket as she hugged him. The victim managed to snap a quick photo of the thief which he showed to the police. Soon enough, police found a ladyboy with the same appearance as the photo standing alone in Sukhumvit Soi 4 in Bangkok’s Khlong Teoi district. Police opened her LYN brand black leather bag to find 10,700 baht and marched her to the station. Lumpini Police arrested 32 year old Jankij Chankijakorn under suspicion of, “theft at night.” She confessed to hugging the foreigner and secretly snatching the stash of cash inside his pocket. The victim confirmed the identity of the thief. Last month, a Taiwanese tourist thought he lost his wallet during Songkran celebrations on Silom Road in Bangkok. Upon inspecting a short video that his friend took, he realised that his wallet was stolen by a ladyboy who sexually harassed him. In the 13-second-long clip, the Taiwanese tourist is pictured trying to get away from a ladyboy who repeatedly attempted to grope him. As she tries to touch him, she snatches the wallet from his pocket without anyone noticing.

  23. From The National News Bureau of Thailand BANGKOK (NNT) - A new fee structure is being considered by banks to reflect operating expenses for both physical and digital banking services. Payong Srivanich, president of the Thai Bankers’ Association (TBA), disclosed that bank members are discussing a new fee structure that is more aligned with actual operating costs than the current structure. He emphasized that there are greater costs for branch services but banks do not charge fees for this channel while underlining that Thailand is the only country in the world that does not charge a fee for digital payments. The TBA president also cited higher costs from security and technology investment to ensure safety for its clients. He said the TBA will discuss with the Bank of Thailand and consider all factors before finalizing the new fee structure. The TBA president stated that, while the new structure would result in increased fees for customers, all parties will ensure that clients pay them at a reasonable price and that banks can balance the fees throughout all channels. This would allow for an easier transition from a cash-intensive to a cashless society in the future.
  24. Traditionally former presidents go back to the form of address to which they were entitled prior to taking office. The logic was that it was a one-person-at-a-time office so only the current office holder would get the forms of address. For example, in retirement Dwight Eisenhower was correctly addressed as General (Full name) on the envelope and as Dear General (Surname) in the salutation. After Harry Truman left the presidency he directed others to address him as Mr. Truman. After listening to the ex-president's performance on CNN the other night, according him even the honorific prefix would constitute a lie.
