I'm pleased I booked my one-night quarantine with Agoda; I can cancel with full refund at anytime before I leave. Nevertheless, I won't....TTT. Not yet, anyway. By the way, another night in Thailand to enjoy rather than a lonely incarceration! If indeed it happens.

And Pattaya?
-
My impression is that Thailand is less troubled by ideological (and sometimes quasi-religious) vaccine-deniers than some of us in the west. Is that true?

I trust Agoda; I bought my (very expensive) ASQ there. Plenty available in BKK, only one in Pattaya. It cost £120! but Agoda reimburses cancellations up to the day of departure. I'm hoping that airport tests will sooner or later replace the overnight stay. By the way, rather cynically, I wonder if the ASQ hotels are lobbying the government to keep the present system going? Some of them must be making a mint.

A further complication(s) according to the Pattayaone website, as reported on the Sawatdee forum... 1) arrivals need to complete a T8 form. This is a medical declaration. This may be the same as we have to complete for our airline. 2) and download the Thailand Plus app. And what else? who knows?

I have found exactly that. https://www.allcleartravel.co.uk/covid-cover-scenarios/ And no age restrictions; this was a significant issue I encountered in my investigations. Another plus- though I've not seen the document yet- is that the advisor informed me that the schedule is a single A4 My intention is buy their insurance, despite having a perfectly adequate one from Lloyds Bank, in order to facilitate the Thai Pass procedure.

I suppose it's age....but I find myself frequently panicking about my upcoming trip, although it's more than three months away. Two years of separation from my boyfriend has taken its toll and I need desperately to make a success of this visit before travelling is too much for me. This is why every detail has been covered in detail and why erroneous reports of complications (like the Covid stipulation in my insurance) are so annoying. I've decided that I'll apply for the Pass in January. I have the necessary documentation already.

I really must stop watching Youtube videos from Thailand "helping" technophobes like me to complete the Thai Pass. Two weeks ago, one advised us to use only a Gmail address to ensure a response. Yesterday, another claimed that our insurance document must refer to Covid specifically. It went on to advise using a Thai insurance company.... I know that the Gmail advice is wrong; I'm assuming that the insurance advice is too. As I say, I must stop clicking on these videosi

Finally a light at the end of a super long tunnel?

Has anything changed when it comes to allowing visitors into residents' rooms? -
What bank in Pattaya is easy to get account without long term visa?
Londoner replied to TotallyOz's topic in Gay Thailand
I tried setting-up an account a few years ago. Visited many Pattaya banks, not a suggestion from any of them that it was possible. I also tried to do do through Bangkok Bank's office here in London. Gave up. Eventually, I did so by using my partner's name. Of course, this isn't much use to you if you are single. Very convenient for me though. One of the considerations was that he would have instant access to financial support if I suddenly popped my clogs! Let us know if you succeed, please. -
My EVA flight booked on Wednesday; cancelled today....no flights until March. The reason given? the delta variant. Really? we've known about that for months; has the prognosis for its spread in Thailand changed? Not a disaster but a nuisance. I've rebooked flight, hotel and quarantine night. But my concern is that, even when things seem to be getting back to a semblance of order, unexpected problems occur. And this one came right out of the blue. Any reports of other carriers cancelling Bangkok flights?

I booked yesterday for a trip in three months time....and I agree with vinapu; we cannot allow our lives to be circumscribed by such possibilities, real as they are. All we can do is to take as many sensible precautions as we can. Every journey we undertake has its risks. My guess is that I shall be in most danger of catastrophe when I drive along the M4 to Heathrow Airport. And then, of course, in the taxi from BKK to Pattaya. All the other dangers, anxieties and possibilities are way down the list. One thing I have done is to spoil myself by booking Business Class on EVA Air, where the seats are partitioned and set well-apart. For those who are interested, the cost was £3400. I won't be able to afford that again!

Yes. My morale rose a week ago. Didn't last long....now all the uncertainties are oppressive.

An item from a Youtube report suggests that the only email address that the Pass accepts is gmail. Is this true? Or was it another glitch now rectified?
-
Thanks; that seems sensible advice. It's a bit of a nuisance juggling hotel room availability, ASQ booking, flights and the Pass....but worth it!
-
worrying information. And in Business Class? I'm splashing-out for the next visit after saving cash for my missed trips. On EVA, for example, there are privacy shields already available for sleep. And in Elite, which is my usual class, there is more space between passengers than in Econ. Whatever happens, I shall seek to find a secluded seat, if possible.

Regarding timing, buying a flight ticket before getting the pass has its dangers. And vice versa. Could the successful applicants tell us what came first, please?
-
Thanks everyone.....I now much more confident about the process.....and my return. A much-needed morale boost in dreary November.

This is why I'm waiting. Or at least, one of the reasons. And what the hell are jpg and png? I struggle enough with the everyday operation of this infernal machine and so it appears that I shall have to employ a technician to help me. A home visit, I suspect , will be expensive. And this is not a joke. To be blunt, I'd rather queue-up at the Thai Embassy in London. Another thought; I do have a computer and have just bought my first (and probably last) mobile phone, specifically for Thailand.. There are some technologically-deprived souls who own neither....are they to be permanently denied a trip to meet their boyfriends?
-
I'm too old to wait....time has become more precious over the past couple of years. Accordingly, I wish to go when I'm still active....which includes "that"! Naturally. I 'm prepared to wait a couple of months to see how the new scheme pans out, particularly regarding the flight and arrival in BKK. To this end, I want to read posts from the intrepid explorers who'll be this forum's guinea -pigs. So for me, it's late January / early February.

Thailand welcomes visitors from 46 countries from Nov 1
Londoner replied to reader's topic in Gay Thailand
Me too. I see too many problems, inconveniences and ambiguities relating to the journey....which, as older posters know, becomes more stressful as the year roll by, even without Covid's intervention. Here's one of them; when booking a trip, can we apply for a Pass next month , ready to use in January or beyond? or do we have to have a flight already paid for? -
Thailand sets out seven conditions for foreign arrivals
Londoner replied to reader's topic in Gay Thailand
.....particularly if they have an age-limit of 75. like the Thai AXA one. After two years of absence and a lot of money saved , I'm happy to pay an extra Covid insurance with a Thai company. If I can find one with no age limit. -
Thailand sets out seven conditions for foreign arrivals

An important question. My UK bank insurance is worth up to about $1.5 m.....a lot more than Thai insurances I've seen. Is the requirement to spend the first twenty-four hours in quarantine definitively dropped? And where do we obtain the RD-PTR tests? s it straight-forward to do so? I'm not happy about paying for a flight before permission to enter is guaranteed. -
70% of population in Bangkok now fully vaccinated
Londoner replied to reader's topic in Gay Thailand
Simovac will apparently no longer be provided at the end of the month. If there is enough Pfizer and AstraZeneca available, infection rates should decrease, bearing in mind the inadequacy of Simovac in resisting the D variant. 70% sounds better than the reality when so many of those inoculated have been so with a vaccine that is not as effective as others
